My Guns N Roses review (Coldplay gets a mention)

 

Went to see Guns N Roses last night at Burswood Dome here in Perth.

 

What a boganfest. I was really surprised at the long lines out the front, normally its a smooth flow into the Dome, but then understood when we got to the point where security were patting everyone down.

 

Both support acts were on time so it looked promising for GNR to come out at 10.30. So starting at 11.05 was a good thing. The vocal mixing was shocking. Axls voice sounded excellent in some songs, and others (especially Knockin On Heavens Door) you couldnt even here him during certain parts, as if his microphone wasnt even on.

 

Apart from some minor instrumental fuckups, and some feedback during Sweet Child O Mine, the music sounded great. Some of the solos, especially Dizzys, were really good. And the setlist was really well mixed aswell, not just saving all the great classics till the end.

 

Axl was quite a showmen, had lots of energy. I kept waiting for him to spack it about something but it never happened. And it was good of him to come out at the end and thank everyone for being such a good crowd and to perform an entire gig. Gig finished at 1.10.

 

I thought the crowd could have got a bit more into it. Everyone was shy of singing or moshing to much. I thought the crowd at Coldplay got more into it!

 

Highlights for me was Live And Let Die, November Rain and You Could Be Mine. Overall I thought it was a fucking great show aswell. And anyone who doesnt decide to go to the shows over east on the fact that its 'Axl and a cover band, not GNR' is robbing themselves of a great gig,

I'm not actually attending their Sydney shows but I work at Acer Arena, where they'll be performing, so I will hear them. I don't really know much about them except that they've got some really classic rock songs so hopefully I'll enjoy it.

Dr Pepper offers free drink for 'Chinese Democracy'

Drinks manufacturer Dr Pepper have announced they will give a free can of the soft drink to every American – except former guitarists Slash and Buckethead – if Guns N Roses release 'Chinese Democracy' this year.

 

The album has been in the pipeline since 1993, when the group released their covers album 'The Spaghetti Incident?', but its release date has continually been pushed back.

 

Dr Pepper's Marketing Director Jaxie Alt said: "It took a little patience to perfect Dr Pepper’s special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love. So we completely understand and empathise with Axl's quest for perfection – for something more than the average album.

 

"We know once it's released, people will refer to it as 'Dr Pepper for the ears' because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds - an instant classic."

 

An estimated $13m in recording expenses have been built up in the making of 'Chinese Democracy'.

There is no way that ANY album can live up to 15 years of hype. And why isn't this available in Canada,lol. Does anyone actually think C.D. will actually be realesed this year...or EVER?:lol:

I predict the album will probably bomb, since Axl's so out of his bloody mind. One thing's for sure: It won't be the next Achtung, Baby!, Revolver, Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends or even Use You Illusion,lol.:lol::P

Legacy Students - that's the term I had forgotten - those are the ones who's daddy's are rich, and they get passed through Yale and other Ivy League Schools regardless of how bad they are as students..

Anyhow, at the end of one of those Guns N' Roses songs, didn't the lyrics go something like "It takes a little patience... ya, yah, oh yaahh" with Axle wining with his usual melodic one-too-many cups of coffee voice..?:P

Oh, those were the days.. Anyhow, I kinda like their music.. it's pure, unrestrained releases of exuberant emotion; the wild, nihilistic memories of many a party gone by..:)

The only reason why this album has not been released yet is because Axl Rose himself knows it's crap. Friends who heard the demos/recordings must've told him the same as well, which is probably triggering the delay/postponing.

 

He'll keep postponing it until he thinks that the album is 'great'. But heck, that will most likely never happen.

Singer says he'll share his drink with Buckethead

 

Axl Rose has responded to an offer by soft drink company Dr Pepper in which they promised a free can of their drink to every American - except Slash and Buckethead - if the band releases their 'Chinese Democracy' album this year.

 

Rose said he was "surprised and very happy" about the offer, but denied the record label or himself were involved in the pledge.

 

Posting on Guns N Roses' website, Rose stated: "We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album 'Chinese Democracy', as for us, this came totally out of the blue.

 

"If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him."

 

As reported yesterday, Dr Pepper's Marketing Director Jaxie Alt made the offer, explaining: “We completely understand and empathise with Axl's quest for perfection – for something more than the average album."

 

Rose's inclusion of former guitarist Buckethead in the offer means Slash, guitarist in the band during their 'golden' period, is now the only American on the planet who would not get a free drink.
