Where will you be buying Viva La Vida?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I started this thread partly out of curiosity and partly because I am faced with a conundrum. Should I buy Viva La Vida as a gatefold physical cd? Or should I keep my iTunes pre-order? I can´t really detect any difference in the sound quality as I don´t have speakers and will only be listening with earphones, so it is really a matter of which format I want. Will buying the physical cd, thus paying more for the album, support Coldplay more than downloading digitally or is it the same thing? I am really not sure about what to do. :\

How do you guys plan to get hold of Viva La Viva and where from?

I pre ordered VLV from HMV last month and paid for it in full, so I guess I don't get to choose unless they're both the same price lol

I'm going to buy it (a physical cd copy) at Target or Best Buy.

I don't like itunes anymore. there's something so much more satisfying about owning a physical copy with the proper packaging et al. Plus, in case something happens to your itunes, you might not be able to get that album back. I've begun buying CDs instead of downloading off itunes, or at least getting burned versions of everything.

Anyway, I pre-ordered mine on Amazon. Cannot go wrong on Amazon.

I would be tempted to buy it as a physical cd too but there is a significant difference in price between cd and digital download and I might want to spend the difference on merchandise instead :P Also iTunes has Lovers in Japan acoustic as an exclusive pre-order...hmm still undecided! Why did you all opt for the cd?

I suppose I know what you mean but I have decided to buy digital mainly because I tend to rip my cds to my computer and iPod and then the case and booklet are forgotten and gather dust forever and ever...so I thought that was a waste of space and resources.

I also have multiple backups so my music is quite safe...however I still like buying a physical cd if it´s a special edition or has something special in it. However the VLV does not even have lyrics in it...hmm not sure whether it is worth the extra cost.

you can easily find lyrics online. that's what I do. I never use the CD jacket.

Just type the song into google, followed by "lyrics"

True but I found lyrics to be often inaccurate when posted online...anyhow now we have lyrics to VLV thanks to Coldplaying.com so that´s great :)

Im getting it form JB Hi-Fi or Virgin Music store. I'm no so keep on Sanity stores (this is in Australia for those who don't know).

It gets released here on Saturday so that's when I'll be getting it, and I can't bloody wait :D

I get how you are feeling...the only thing that keeps me sane during this excruciating wait is checking the Coldplaying.com forum every day and get my Coldplay fix...the album might be released here on Friday but not sure...Denmark here by the way :)

Any reason in particular on why you guys chose the physical version vs digital download? Also considering the digital download has a bonus song in it.

To see it in the stores, hold it, get it, buy it then walk out with it...something special about that, totally don't know what but there is a sense of satisfaction :nice:

^ Hi there! You're right, it is released there on Friday, a day before us here lol lucky! If I really like a band, I usually buy their albums in hardcopy before anything (downloading and pre-ordering included) and when it comes to Coldplay, there is no exception lol.

I'm sure you'll know what to do come Friday :)

Yes if it is released Friday in the stores, I probably will be compelled to go and guy it as physical cd, as it comes out on iTunes Monday and I feel like I just can´t wait...any...longer! ahhh! :)

Any special reason why choosing to buy hardcopy before anything? I think the artist gets the same earning share from download as they do from physical cds...but yes I can sympathize with the feeling of going to a shop and coming out with a nice little bag containing the precious cd hehe But I would consider that only in very few special case and of course Coldplay is in that category!

Wal-Mart.

Out of curiosity , what is the difference in price between download and physical cd overe there in the US? Here the album on iTunes costs about $ 16 and as physical cd $ 30.

My CD arrived today, 1 day early from play.com for £8.95.

As for the supermarket price-war, Asda has claimed £7 for the new CD, so I wouldn't bet against a similar price for the other 3 stores.

Wow that sounds great! Lucky you! :) I wish I had pre-ordered from Play.com then...but had no idea they would ship it before release date. Oh well I´ll try and pick it up at my local store, provided they have the gatefold digipack edition which is the only one I want to buy.

yup, i'm with you there.

Whichever store i crash into first ;p

i ordered mine in February!!

annoying thing is they've (CD Wow) changed the 'despatch' date to 16th june in the last few days!!!:veryangry:............god knows when i'll get it??

My bet is that they will post it on the 16th June when the CD gets released out in Hong-Kong (or wherever CD Wow are based these days) and it will take a good few days to ship from Hong-Kong to your doorstep.

My friend is spending a few days with me and we're going to buy our copies at either Walmart or this music shop near my school.

I kind of wish RadioShack sold Cds so I wouldn't have to go that far. :P
