Coldplay accused of copying 'Viva La Vida' melody

Featured Replies

Yeah, it's coincidence. Bound to happen, and as open as coldplay is about "plagiarism" (even though it's never as much a rip-off as they make it out to be) they would be the first to admit borrowing something from another artist. How many of us thought speed of sound was inspired by "running up that hill?" Anyway, that's just one guitar lick out of probably millions out in the universe I sincerely doubt the entire Satriani track sounds like VLV, only that one bit. , it's not nearly as bad as say ashlee simpson ripping off the whole song of "square one".

I also noticed that the pitch was distorted, definitely wasn't the real version.

hahahah they sound so much alike!

But I agree, Coldplay would have admitted if they had borrowed any music from other musicians. Chris always does

This is ridiculous

all publicity is good news I s'pose - this is hilarious. And yes if Coldplay had ripped it off they would have said so. There is no way Chris would have been able to keep stum and hold his bla bla over this :D

Huzzah!

The rhythm of the melody between the two are more different than similar. I agree it's all coincidence.

Why the eff would Chris Martin be at their concert and the guys NOT go up to him and say "hi" and have a picture or some other memento?

Yeah....that pretty much sums it up.

I heard about this...whatever. People steal or spin off of ideas from other musicians all the time, and Coldplay has gone so far as to admit that. The rhythm and the tune are similar, but so what? It's not like they took the song and credited it as their own.

And anyways, Viva La Vida is better. :P

ashlee simpson ripped off coldplay? Are you simply giving an imaginary example or did this really happen? I searched youtube and found nothing.

ya she ripped off square one ^^

You know, it's funny the TMZ guy wanted to ask him the same thing. I was like "Uhhhhhhhh I don't know if you've seen the video but it's nothing similar to the song he says AND the guy already admitted that he's not even sure if it's Chris Martin he saw..." and the TMZ guy said "You are gonna say that 'cause you are a Coldplay fan but it's more publicity for them anyway on whether he admits it not..." and that's when I said "But you're going to ruin my autograph experience 'cause you are gonna scare him away..." he was nice either way.

Which Simpson song rips from Square one?

Sorry Im behind

Well, these songs are simmilar indeed. Not the same, but simmilar.

But, as years go by, making a completely unique song gets harder and harder, so we might expect more of these comparisons in the future.
