I just now watched an interview on g4's "attack of the show" with the frontman of creaky boards about the ordeal. Pretty stupid... the whole time the guy was like "umm...I dunno i just heard a melody that sounded like mine and umm...like, I remember a british guy at one of my concerts that I thought was Chris Martin..."

 

Later on he'd say he admitted he can't really tell british people alike and that for all he knew it was thom yorke. (lol).

 

Also, he started off by saying "well I wouldn't really call this an allegation...I just thought that it sounded really similar."

Host: But didn't the you-tube video say "coldplay steals melody etc."

Guy: Well, that was mainly just to get more people to see the video, but we had no idea it would get this big.

 

How could he not know?!

Just saw the video on youtube and the guy edited the video at the end, adding some text of all the proofs Coldplay has against his claims. (Chris was in London, not at their show, and that Viva La Vida was demoed in March 07.) He also changed the title of the video from "Coldplay steals..." to just "fiasco."

 

I'm still a little ticked that this piece of shit attempted to taint their image, but, in closing, Coldplay wins.

At least he changed it, but he's a bit silly to think there would be no big deal.

But it's funny how some people were agreeing with him....just shows how biased people are about Coldplay "stealing" from other artists :dozey:

At least the worst accusations against Coldplay are weak attempts at copying. I mean its not like theyre shooting people or doing drugs. SO they are still better than 95% of bands out there today.

i dont really think they need to copy anybody..all in all they are getting triumph with this melody and the supposed creator didn't..:wink3:

Did Coldplay copy Joe Satriani?

Poor Chris Martin. He's been sitting pretty at the top of album and singles charts the world over in recent weeks, and yet he's still suffering accusations from inventive YouTubers suggesting his best-selling songs are rip-offs.

 

First came a fine piece of self-publicity by Brooklyn indie band Creaky Boards, who suggested Martin had come to see them and copied their song The Songs I Didn't Write for Coldplay's Number 1 single Viva La Vida.

 

No one quite believed Creaky Boards, as it soon emerged that Coldplay had demo'd Viva La Vida by the time Martin went to the Creaky Boards gig.

 

But now things get stranger. Now some wag is suggesting Coldplay's real source of inspiration might be shaven-headed rock guitar instrumentalist Joe Satriani, and that Viva La Vida copies Satriani track If I Could Fly. At least this track was released in 2004, way before Martin and co would have written Viva La Vida. But does anyone really believe Chris Martin even listens to Joe Satriani? Or maybe it's Creaky Boards who are the closet Satriani fans, and they're the culprits?

 

There's a mashup of Coldplay and Satriani doing the rounds already, and while it seems preposterous the two are related by anything other than coincidence – neither tune is the most melodically unusual, after all - songs have ended up in lawyers' hands for less.

After all, where there's a hit there's a writ…

Well, although that's much more unnerving than the Creaky Boards tune, I still think it's all a coincidence. People are just taking advantage of Chris' constant claims of plagiarism.

It's 1/2 a pitch higher than the album version, so Chris starts singing on C# instead of C.

...it makes him sound like he's sitting on a balloon or something.

No need for the allcaps...but you're right, I noticed it too; Chris's voice is a bit too high. As you said, they sped it up to make it match better. And anyway, only the first 3 notes in each verse are similar; the rest is completely different. Just another loser trying to rip them off for attention. :rolleyes:

 

(Not necessarily the artist's fault, of course; but whoever made this video has quite the inferiority complex.)
