jonas brothers are tearing up the charts, i've heard them compared to the beatles a few times. they're more of a tweeny band but their music is not as offensive as i originally thought it would be. red hot chili peppers, weezer, foo fighters, nickelback...they're all up there in terms of biggest bands. seems like the biggest bands these days are the punk rock/emo bands, but biggest band doesn't hold the same weight as it used to in terms of popularity. now it's mostly rap and r&b.

They are big...but I don't know how really big they are. They definatley sold out tickets and more and more people know about them. I think they have gotten bigger through all of their marketing.

I think they are still more well known in the UK as one of their biggest bands...here they are a big band, but there is a whole lot of other music and musicians that are big too.

Why is it so important that they get BIG anyways?

I am glad that more people appreciate and care for their music, but I think that the music itself really is the most important part.

yes music is the most important part.i agree with that too.

because you see some people will like you, some people half like you and half not, some people may not totally.

Every one in this world acts as if as they've the freedom to express opinions ,go to shows, and stuff they think that they can just overcome all the other people. That's wrong that's just wrong.

That's where all the problems are arising.

The press, the media, the interviewers like in TV or radio they think that asking unnecessary questions about Chris's family and wife they think that it will create attention which is really wrong totally.

if they ask about music then we can know what they are actually doing behind like how they're creating and then we can judge. But basically as they're always dragging these unimportant family oriented questions in between i am actually unable to know about their work. The only thing that i am knowing is this all unnecessary stuff like how chris takes care of his children or family. That i am saying is really not necessary for me to know.

i want to exactly know how Chris and Coldplay are producing their music. Then only all the people can know whether they've to like it or not.

i think that's what makes music really important.

Anyway if i go to my office everyday and my manager will ask me to show all my work, but he is not concerned to ask what stuff i've cooked in my home, whether i've taken care of my husband or children. That's really not that important at that time to ask right?

That's my point.if really there is anything to take care then i'll submit a leave letter to permit a holiday to me.

Then their job is also like that and must be like that to Coldplay too if they really want to grow bigger or better.

They've to spend more time in music and also must explain facts behind them then only everybody knows how they're creating it right.so we can decide we've to like them or not.

some people say this band is bigger, some people say another band is bigger, you see here how many people like your music, how many people care for it,how many people are coming to the concert and are writing their opinions on internet this is what i see a band's popularity.

this bigger not bigger this is just nothing than a waste topic to discuss actually.

it gives you no actual fact to see.

I checked out the Jonas Brothers on Rhapsody yesterday, after reading your post. They probably don't want to hear this, but they sounded like Hanson. Nothing offensive about their music, I just found it shallow and formulated.

I like some of RHCP, a couple of Weezer tunes, and a Nickelback tune here and there. IMO, none of them are on anywhere near Coldplay in terms of impact. Foo Fighters? They're probably my favorite American band and I would put them on the same level as Nickelback in terms of "bigness" in the USA.

I'd say Coldplay is way bigger then U2 in America.

Maybe in terms of album sales over the last year or two, but in terms of public recognition and concert sales... U2 seems to be way ahead. The last U2 concert in Atlanta sold out within hours of the tickets going on sale. The Coldplay concert tickets went on sale on June 18th, and there are still tickets to be had.

Excellent point! That's what's most important to me. I'm interested in their music, how it's produced and written, what inspired it, their thoughts on live performing, etc. I see so many musicians taking on the role of political activists, taking up some fringe crusade that ultimately marginalizes them.

Coldplay speaks most effectively through their music. That's where their focus needs to be.

the US is in a sorry state if fall out boy, weezer, nickelback n that are the biggest bands atm.

although yes most of it is rap and R&B..........oh dear so still in a sorry state then

Hmm! Music here is all over the map! It used to be that there were fewer choices, but now, so much is available, it's a little hard to get a feel for what or who is popular. I would say it's audiences - Coldplay has topped the charts (YEA!), and dominates the internet, but radio play is a bit less. Regionality has a lot to do with it - one might never hear them in let's say rural Kansas (I might be wrong though!), but they get great play in New York! (probably they get really great play in old York too?;)) Today's radio stations are specialized more than ever, and have a more distinct musical genera, so I can't quite figure it out over here! (Billboard online has them at the top, so perhaps even in terms of radio play?!)
