Stuff White People Like: Coldplay

Featured Replies

"Due to its big, sweeping sound, Coldplay’s music is perfect for montages about relationships in television and film. Because of this, many white people have listened to a Coldplay song on their iPod while looking out the window of an airplane or car, imagining that they are acting out a scene from a movie about their life. It is their secret shame and it is strongly recommended that you never bring it up with them."

:dozey:

"Their knowledge of music is very limited, and there is a 100 percent chance that they also like U2."

"It is easy to think that all white people love Coldplay."

:laugh3:

Too bad those are in reverse order. Nobody makes fun of things creatively anymore.

Well, that article rings true for me, at least. So I suppose they consider me a "basic" level white person. :laugh4: Sorry I don't list Radiohead as my favorite band and exude pretentiousness, Vanity Fair.

I don't care for U2 so.... hmmm

it's a quite stupid article

Stupid, and a tab bit insulting. mainly the alleged correlation of lack of money to respectability.

*looks at skin, is it white? not* Very stupid article (the first comment I made was a joke because you might think it is stupid too)

:laugh3:Oh, I've just gotta laugh! Hmm.. Let's see... looking at the demographics put out by Quantcast, this site has a huge Asian and Latino audience, as well as a very large following by Americans of African Descent, and Americans of European Descent.. I give up - Coldplay is all about coming together, and all the old stereotypes are just that! So, does that mean if I listen to rap music, I have fantasies about becoming a rap star?? Or, can I listen if I just like the music and the message?? I think music is the universal language, and what divides us are minor cultural differences; flavors of humanity, or the spices of life.

What is this vanity fair anyhow? A fair for vain people??:P

Quite a stupid, ignorant article if you ask me. :dozey:

And by the way, I'm Asian and happen to love Coldplay very much. :P Does this make me a twinkie?

If you're a twinkie, I'm an oreo. :P

People are so quick to segregate and put labels on everything. When are we going to realize that not only one race likes a particular band/genre/etc.?

:rolleyes:Hmmm... Well, if you're real sweet with a sugar cream filling, you might just be a twinkie! :P

Are you a double-stuff oreo??:P (personally, I like the plain oreos, as the chocolaty part is the best..)

I'm just wondering when are people going to realize that there are no races, just us humans!;)

Ugh I know. I happen to like different kinds of music from different parts of the world (though I'm not into the sugary pop Asian stuff my cousin listens to...). I listen to blues and jazz, classical, latin pop...the works. Music, as well as other things, are meant to be experienced and enjoyed by everyone, and everyone should be able to be part of the musical journey together.

Hahaha it takes awhile to get to know me and really find my sweet side...:P

Hmm.. So what does that make me? Just plain Vanilla?? I've got a bit of a tan, so maybe strawberry vanilla?:laugh3:

Sweet side? Hmm.. well, which side is that?:P

I don't know what I am. 25% Dutch, 25% German, 10% French, 10% Native American, 8% Italian, 4% Scottish and lots more. My skin's white, but it's always got a dark tan no matter what time of year it is.

This is such a terrible stereotyping article....yet it's so hilarious at the same time

My favorite bits:

White people who list Coldplay as their favorite band are what we will call “basic” level white. Chances are that they discovered the band a few years ago and have attended at least one concert. Their knowledge of music is very limited, and there is a 100 percent chance that they also like U2. If you need to befriend one of these people, just tell them that X&Y helped you get through a difficult breakup. They will understand.

----And the sad part is that, through my own witnessing, this claim is accurate.

----ROFL, I am 110% GUILTY of committing this act. :laugh3: :laugh3: :laugh3:

Knowing how to use Coldplay to your advantage will be one of your main assets as you climb the white social ladder.

----LMAO such a sales tagline claim, but sounds convincing to me at this point. :dozey:

Well, this article is an insult to every human being, if they like Coldplay or not.

Let's hope they were just trying to be funny :dozey:

This article made me laugh quite a bit. Especially the picture. Representing "Advanced" with trumpet blowing is perfect because elitists are rarely modest about their elitism.

I don't think in the slightest that this article is presented in seriousness. While some of it seems accurate, nobody's foolish enough to think that anything applies to all white people. I've read some of the other "Stuff White People Like" articles, and they always seem to refer to a more specific group than just "white people".

I'm still looking for the "white" people. Last time I checked, I was this tan/peach color, and someone else might be lighter, or chocolate brown, but really, we're all pretty much the same. Different opportunities, different locations, different families, differing cultures, but skin tone is just that - no big deal to me..
