July 23, 200817 yr Author Michael Stipe to Unveil Sculptures at New Rogan Store Rogan is breaking in its new digs on 330 Bowery and will fête the opening later this month with an exhibit of objects created by R.E.M. front man Michael Stipe. An inspiration to designer Rogan Gregory, Stipe has created a collection of bronze relics that will be displayed exclusively in the store for one month this summer. The objects Stipe “immortalized” in bronze include various cameras like the Diana and Polaroid, a cassette tape, and a clock radio. Stipe explains: “The radio alarm clock … changed forever the fragile state between sleeping and waking, allowing you to wake to your favorite radio station … The polaroid [one shot and sx70] revolutionized photography by providing instant images available to anyone … Cassettes provided portable, compact music, altering forever the influence of radio as the individual became their own disc jockey.” The items are for display only, and a special event unveiling the exhibit will take place on June 26. It will open to the public on June 27. Rogan is also making two limited-edition shirts to commemorate the event, including a Rogan-versus-Stipe button-down shirt for $380 and T-shirt for $220, available exclusively at the new store.
