Well, it's pretty clear we're not going to agree, but IMHO some interesting points have been raised, which does kind of make the thread interesting. (to me anyway...)

Well, that's it. What's the point of a discussion board if we're not going to discuss anything? :p

 

There are so many people willing to state an opinion without explaining, it make a refreshing change to see a thread where people are willing to discuss like this. I like to know why people think the way they do, whichever opinion they may have.

Exactly. So many post have been made about complaints with the VLV shows, but a large percentage of them are little better than trolling, with comments phrased in a rude and agressive manner and no explination. It's nice to have at least one thread where people seem to want to discuss why the feel the way they do with each other. Otherwise, what's the point of posting here at all?

 

Besides, new people are voting in the poll, and that alone is enough to keep the thread at the top anyway (is it? I could be wrong on that...)

Arguing about it here isn't telling the band anything ;)

Well how then did coldplay find out about complaints about ticket prices from the last tour? Chris has mentioned it in an interview that they check out the messageboards and press from time to time. And any good manager would always be checking on band feedback.

Let me put it this way, if you had a messageboard about you and your career, life wouldn't you want to take a look at it every now and then????

 

 

I would also add to others saying lets 'let the thread die'. Why? are we trying to stifle debate. If everyone agreed then there is no point in having any discussion or messageboard. If you are not interested in the thread do not read it and certainly do not post a comment like 'let this thread die' because you just move the thread back to the top again!!

How do we know they reduced them because people on here were complaining? There's absolutely no proof of that.

 

Show length has been a complaint on this board for years, this isn't the first thread to bring it up and it won't be the last and yet Coldplay still choose to play a 90 minute set.

 

It's obviously what they're comfortable with, it's obviously what they think is for the best, they have said in interviews they keep it concise to prevent people getting bored.

 

If they didn't change it back in 2003 and I doubt they're going to do it now, regardless of whether they check the boards or not. ;)

I'm assuming we're talking about the Latin American Tour here? If not, I don't get it because tickets are much higher for this tour than they were for Twisted Logic (though still on the low end of what major concerts run these days.) I always assumed that the prices for the Latin American tour were high due to a combination of a low number of shows and the fact that the shows wre smaller theatre shows. Not sure this is the best example to "prove" posting here reaches the band...

I'm sure someone in the band's organization does take the time to look at what's being written about them. However, I'd be willing to bet that most of this research is done with reviews, commentary etc. published in proffessional sources (Newspaper reviews, NME etc.). A band as big as Coldplay have literally thousands of websites, messageboards, and chatrooms devoted to them, even if the band or their people were looking (and again I'm not sure they are), the chances they'd find this particular

thread on this particular board are extremely slim.

 

Also, to my knowledge, the comment of Chris', you refrenced was about the old Coldplay.com message system (which I don't believe even exists anymore.), and even if it wasn't, he probably meant he'd seen a few websites once or twice.

 

As someone else said, the length of Coldplay's sets has been an ongoing complaint at least since 2005, if the band were inclined to play longer in response to this complaint, it seems they would have done so already.

 

And who exactly is trying to stiffle debate? One person posted about the thread being too far up, and three people posted in defense of the debate on this thread.

the running time is too short! and many many times there isn't even a real encore because no matter how much the audience clap their hands and cheer for them, they live the venue immediately after the escapist...

 

it is a constructive critic from a big big fan! doesn't mean that i am not going to the show just because i think its too short!

While the running time being too short may be a matter of opinion. The statement that there is no encore is just not true. Everything after the acoustic set is the encore, why some people do not pick up on this, I have no clue...:rolleyes:

 

It is true, that they rarely do additional unplanned encore's, but I'm hardpressed to think of very many bands today that do (including among bands who's live performances are regarded as superior to those of Coldplay.)

well you see what happens if they do an unplanned encore... half the band is half way across the city when they find out... :laugh3:

 

and i guess people just don't pick up on it is maybe because encore should be a bit more of a surprise... but chris just loves to tell everybody he's about to come out again in 30 seconds...

In a sense we have, but given that the discussion itself seems to have generated even more intense debate than the initial issue, I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

Know this thread's been dead for ages, but Blender Online's current "33" list makes a (IMHO) pretty good point about why encores are largely useless and pretty much suck.

 

Couldn't figure out a good place to post that (though the article sums up my feelings on encores exactly), so I thought I might as well post here as encores were a major point of the debate on this thread.
