Christa42
Don't know if someone allready started this but: This is not a thread to blame anyone or discuss the theories. The annivesary of 9/11 is upon us. Annivesary is the wrong word. Maybe Remberence is better. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of my friends who perished that day. It's a strange story but that horrible day brought me to the music of Coldplay. Please take some time, remember loved ones and friends and never, never forget. Thank you, Christa edit - noticed that this was my 912 post. glad it wasn't

Larry
Yep, what day terrible day it was. :( I think everyone of us still knows how he/she spent that day and what he/she has done then. I had a long day at school (normally I left school at 12nn or 1pm) but this time I had special lessons in Spanish so I came home at 2.15pm. I had lunch and watched tv afterwards. Suddenly all channels interrupted their normal program and special news appeared, because a plane has crashed into the WTC. I think I watched RTL when suddenly a second plane crashed into the other building. The announcer said something like: "And here we have a repeat of the crash... oh no! Wait a minute... That's another one! Oh my God!" My mum screamed "That's a terror attack" in that moment while I couldn't believe it. We continued to watch tv the whole day. My dad had a meeting in Hannover and it was cancelled at the end. I also remember the next day at school. All students were shocked even the teachers so we were allowed to leave school at 10am. :( Besides Enya's "Only Time" there's a second song which always reminds me of 9/11... Linkin Park's "In The End". I probably listened to it a lot before and after the attacks.
*Sarah*
i remember first hearing the news on radio ffn and they said it could have been an accident. but then it happened again, so i turned on the tv. i also remember that my friend came to my house and my brother was cutting the grass. so i told him what's happening like every 5 minutes... and i still see peter kloeppel talking, when suddenly the first tower behind him collapsed. was a horrible day indeed. GazeboflossUK
I was talking a year out from study and was having a nice extended sleep. I woke up and turned on the TV in my room. I watched about 10 minutes of rubbish morning television - then all of a sudden an image of the north world trade centre tower appeared on the screen with smoke billowing out. I quickly got dressed, ran downstairs turned on the TV set in the livingroom and shouted to my mam (mom, mum) "come and have a look at this". I was living at home then. I knew instantly what had occurred. The catalysing event which was to change our way of lives for a long period of time..if not forever. The second plane soon hit the south tower and I stayed glued to the Internet/News for hours and days as all the events unfolded. Many people I knew at the time didn't seem to understand the impact that this was going to have all over the world.....but I guess most people were finding it hard to take in. iPsy
I had walked home froms school and my parents were both watching the news (they don't usually), and they were talking about bombs and stuff and I felt so awful, it was a chilling day! Gitta Rensolo
I was watching some kids channel (a show) with my little sister (she was 5 and I was 13 back then...) suddenly the presenter of the show said "One plane crashed into the WTC in New York, we'll keep you updated"....I can exactly remember what my first thought was: "And? Don't things like this happen every day? And what is the WTC?" I had never heard of it before...such a strange thought when I think about it nowadays...and then we switched channel...and on every channel there was this burning tower and suddenly there was this second crash (I can't really remember what I thought)....I only know that it was really shocking and unreal when I saw it...aftererwards I had to go to my tennis training and suddenly our coach interrupted it, because some women who had their training afterwards wanted to talk to the coach because of what has happened...and that they didn't want to play or something like that...I got so mad...I thought: "Damn it, only because in America two towers caved in our training gets interrupted!"...I seriously couldn*t understand it... the next day at school was really strange...esp. the teachers were really calm and sad...I felt as if they were exaggerating...I didn't know what this would mean for the future...of course I knew it was horrible...and one week later (or something like that) we had a some kind of rememberence in our school hall...they played "Only time" and there were some speeches...afterwards many students put candles on the school yard and some of them were crying...I rather observed it than participating...like I said before I thought it was exaggeration....America was soooo far away... I think if it would have happened some years later this day would have been even more shocking for me...because I really get goosebumps when I think about it...and I apologise for my thoughts back then....I guess I was just too young to understand it...I really don't know

ApproximatelyInfinite
ugh, well being in america, it was in the morning when i found out. all of us in the middle school had a scheduled break or recess at the same time every morning for breakfast, but instead all the teachers told us to go to this one room immediately. we all thought we were in trouble. but eventually our pastor at the time told us there had been an "accident" in nearby NYC and a plane had crashed into the world trade center. no one knew what the WTC was at the time, but i knew they were the twin towers because i'd been in them, so i whispered to everyone in my row what they were. but at that point it still could have been an accident, even though our pastor told us that there might be other reasons behind it. it was a bit funny, actually: at the time i did wonder why they were making such a big deal out of all this by TELLING us so gravely, because i truly thought it must have been an accident, but then i figured they were telling us because the headmaster of the middle school was a pilot and i thought it must have been him that crashed and i started freaking a bit, but then i saw him by the door so i began to understand that this was a bit bigger than they were making it seem to a bunch of middle schoolers. but about half an hour later, we all walked into our math class, talking as usual (though about planes and crashes and all that stuff, because most of us believed it to be a freak accident), but our teacher told us to shut up upon entering because he had the radio on...and it was live from the scene. we heard the second plane hit. that's when i started to get it, because once you HEAR bodies hitting the ground and people jumping from windows screaming, you realize what's going on. i have never wanted to throw up so much in my life. we didn't have class, we just sat there listening. and then the second tower fell, and we heard that live too. we didn't even get up to change classes like we should have, didn't care about anything but listening to the radio. and even though i was only 11 at the time, and in retrospect i didn't fully understand much about this at all, hearing all that live and having NYC only be a matter of miles away from where i live made me get it much sooner than i think a lot of other people my age did. the other problem with being pretty close to NYC meant a lot of my schoolmates' parents worked in the city, some even in the WTC themselves, or were NYC firefighters. it was an absolute madhouse at school that day with people throwing fits (rightfully so) and frantically calling and going off their heads...it made it all even more real. my school was actually very lucky and didn't have any major personal losses in terms of parents, but lots of cousins and uncles and aunts and friends died that day, lots. this is super long, but the thing i remember most about that day is waking up, before any of this even happened. it was the most beautiful day outside, so beautiful i actually noticed the second i woke up, before i even put on my glasses and could see properly. i had U2's "beautiful day" stuck in my head upon waking, and two canada geese flew right by my window, which made me smile (not something i do too easily in the morning). i had this gut feeling that that day was going to be significant. i just thought it would be more perfect, too. livethelife16
I remember coming down stairs to eat breakfast and seeing the footage on the TV and my dad just looking at me and saying, "We are under attack" I of course at nine years old didn't understand....It was definetly a scary day....I don't think that anyone will forget it.:( One of the wierdest things is that last years at my school we got new history textbooks and at the end of it, they had a whole chapter dedicated to discussing 9/11/01 and it just freaked me out that it was already in my text...:\

Cobalt
It happened late at night for us Aussies, so when I woke up I think my mum was watching TV and I wasn't sure what was going on. I do remember seeing footage of the first plane crashing into the first tower, then the second, then the both of them tumbling down. Mum didn't say anything about what was going on - we were just watching and listening to the TV. I couldn't really take it in as I was only about 8 at the time. I think school went on as per normal that day - none of us in class were really sure... I don't remember much about it because it was my first primary school (I've been to two), and it was a while ago... but I remember assembly that morning, our principal told us about what had happened. It was quite sombre the rest of the day for me, but somehow still we went about our stuff, carefree and not quite able to understand... I do remember reading the newspaper that evening in McDonald's though. Then it kind of hit. It seemed a bit weird that everyone was going on about it because it was in America, and that was so far away... a few kids at school lost relatives or family friends I think. But I knew - it was America, those two big towers that we'd seen in postcards and on the telly in movies. They were big. This was big. It was huge... ApproximatelyInfinite
i also remembered something else today. when we were all listening to it happening live on radio in my math class, suddenly the reporter stopped talking and the radio connection dropped or whatever. a few seconds later, someone back at the station had to take over and start talking from the safety of some building. but we all freaked in class, because we were so sure that the reporter had just died. i still don't know if that's what actually happened or if the connection just completely dropped, but i don't think the radio station at that time was sure, either, since they acted like it hadn't happened. ManiG
^ i dont know what experience you had with 9-11.. but from what you said.. i can imagine it would how hard it must be.. and im glad that people on here made it better for you.. I remember that day morning clear as a bell.. i was only, 8 years old. I was on my way to school.. and from what i remember i didnt talk a lot as a kid.. my mom was dropping me to school for the first time in a long time, and we were in our car.. and she we had just got in the parking lot while the news radio channel was on.. and they talked about the first attack.. my mom put up the volume.. and i was trying to talk to her, and be a good jolly kid.. and she wasnt paying attention.. so i was getting frustrated.. 'MOM MOM.. WHY ARENT YOU LISTENING TO ME.. MOM!'.. she asked me to be quiet for a minute as she put the volume up on the radio.. i didnt know what the hell was happening, when we reached the doors, i left the car not in the greatest mood because my mom wasnt listening.. when i got home and saw the television.. i remember being so greatly affected by what i had seen.. and i was only eight years old.. like i didnt even UNDERSTAND what was happening.. but all i remember is that i couldnt sleep.. its scary how.. even though i didnt logically understand it.. i emotionally did.. it just shows what kind of impact something horrible like that can have on somebody.. We had a minute of silence at school today.. and i just want to say that my heart goes out to everybody who lost someone or something because of the attacks.. i also posted a poem i wrote a long long time ago (once again when i was young.. but not as young.. )based on 9-11 in the poets thread.. marie/pims
I remember it perfectly. It was so sunny outside and it was the beginning of the school year so I was having a blast with my friends.I got near my house and the streets were really empty....I remember wondering why.Me and my brother got home and my mother was sitting in front of the tv, not saying a word. The towers hadn't collapsed yet so I saw it all live.We sat in front of the tv for hours and hours, all night long.We couldn't believe it. The pictures in my mind are so clear because it was such a beautiful sunny day but when I got home and it was like the world had come to an end. They showed people jumping from the windows. The next day I went to school and it's an international school with kids from all over the world and kids' from diplomats and ambassadors so the principal and teachers came around and talked to us.They asked us to talk as well, say what we were thinking. This was no time for teaching maths or literature, they just wanted us to talk and be together. Our school was on high security alert for a month cause they thought we might be at risk.Everyone was so sad at school. My dad's colleague died that day. Christa42
So today was an amazing day for New Yorkers. In case you had not heard there was an airplane leaving from NY that crash landed in the Hudson River today. The plane had just taken off from Laguardia airport and was in the air probably about 10 minutes and they ran into a flock of Friggin Geese, the plane lost both engines and the amazing pilot acutally planned the landing between NY and NJ in the Hudson river. the George Washington Bridge was 900 feet away. My husbands office faces the Hudson River and called me and said "Why is there helicopters and fire trucks outside my street?" So this amazing story ends with the Plane actually floating for a while ( Mel, i wiil need some expert geek help on planes floating ) One of our best friends is the captain of the NYC Fire Department Boat division and got every single person off the plane !!!!! everyone was saved but there were a few minor injuries because they were not wearing their seat belts. so i am here to be so friiggin thankful for my wonderful NYC and all the wonderful EMT's and Police men and women and by standers on the Ferry's!!! Just had to share this amazing expierence with you because it could have been so much worse!!! I LOVE NY!!!!!!
twin4life
I visited new york with a group just a few weeks ago and went to ground zero...we were all sharing our stories about where we were when it happend and I just wanted to cry thinking about how terrible some things are... I was in grade 6 at the time....my teacher was called out and came back in looking very pale and serious. I don't really remember her telling us what happend or anything. But when we were let out for recess everyone found out about it. My class was on the second floor and there are these huge windows overlooking the library down below where all the teachers were gathered watching a tv. I just remember it being replayed over and over and over again. I remember watching the news and seeing the papers about people who jumped out..... I can't believe it's been 7 years. It still seems so recent...

Saffire
Back when I was living in the dorms, I was out with a group of guys playing volleyball in the field next door, and we were barefoot because there was sand on the ground. One of the guys stepped on a pin and shrieked out in pain. We pulled it out of his foot, and it was a button someone had left out in the sand that said, "Never Forget" and a picture of the Twin Towers. That poor guy will never forget.
