Secret message in Lovers in Japan video?

Featured Replies

Hello world, it's been awhile. Upon viewing the video, I have stumbled across something interesting (nothing more, nothing less) at around the end. At around 3:45, in what appears to be at least 3 different frames, the letters, in order of frame, "EB.", "BA IN", and "LL FO" appear. Any insight? your thoughts? enjoy deciphering! : )))

yeah i just paused it and went to it slowly i wonder want it means! perhaps the oracle could tell us

Initials of the people that did most of the editing work for the vid?

"EB.", "BA IN", and "LL FO"

fall in Bebo

btw does Coldplay have an official Bebo thing?

*x-files music playing*

^^^

Well that's freaky! I bet it means something more than just the editor's initials.

You know, the "FO" part looks almost like it could be a Japanese character...

I agree. Looks like Japanese to me...

Anyone have any friends who read Japanese? I've not found a good way to search for the meaning of Japanese characters online, although not for lack of trying. So far I haven't found anything that seems to match that one character :p

I bet it's something interesting though. If they used a Japanese character and then those other words, it could practically be a whole sentence :D

LL in japanese? doubt it

Oh, no, just that they'd be using the Japanese character in place of an English word. I know enough about Japanese to know that wouldn't happen :)

I'm just saying it could be a combination of English words and one Japanese character representing a word :D

in film editing (before digital film came about), this kind of thing would show up all the time in rough-cuts. it's the director's or editor's notes on the side of the film, and it flashes like this when they scroll through the film really fast in rough cuts. matt whitecross put it in for an effect, i can almost guarantee it :P. i highly doubt it means anything, nor are they notes on the actual LIJ video. i bet it's stock footage of rolling film they decided to throw in to make it more fancy

Yep i agree with you... if you have a look carefully round the 22 second mark, you can see the clapper thing so i think it deffo is an effect

Ooh, that girl is smart! Has Obama filled his cabinet yet, Chelsea? Your skills are wasted on us :D

Well I definitely thing it is supposed to be some sort of subliminal message, as it appears so briefly. and it's something coldplay wold try to do. Unfortunately I can't slow it down to get it frame by frame...

haha, he's slowly outlining his team. some people have been officially announced, but i think it'll be a few weeks before we know all the people. it's rumored there is a place for john kerry, though :D

haha, and personally, i'm 100% convinced it doesn't mean anything, it's just for effect, but i could always be wrong. i think it was just added in for shits and giggles, to make it seem like more of a "film". i doubt those are even matt whitecross's notes. with the VLV secret message in the film last december, at least that was obviously a secret message. this is an effect used in thousands of videos, so it would be harder to pick up a secret message, IMO, because its a commonly-seen thing that people would overlook and not ever think about it being important.

Yeah, on second thought it may just be a way of linking bits of clip, but the fact they include letters on it puzzles me.

Interesting guys....we need to investigate! :inqusitive:

This reminds me of all that hype around the Abbey Road Beatle album....they had secret messages in thier songs to...according to my dad anyway!

Yeah, Paul McCartney pokes fun of that myth in The Simpsons - he says that if you play one of their albums (it might be Sgt. Pepper but I can't remember) it gives you a reciepe for a vegetarian dish :P

lol i know a bit of japanese as well which is why i was wondering how LL could represent a japanese character. but alrighty. the mystery still stands i suppose.

the letters would just be parts of words from the director's/editor's notes on the filmstock itself, if i'm right, but who really knows? :D

As someone very wise once said, your guess is as good as mine :p
