CHAPTER 9

"But how can timing be that bad?" Will chuckled, handing Chris his second beer. "I know you have some bad luck but, jeez."

Chris grabbed his chest at his sore ribs. He needed sleep, badly. "I felt like she was going to say something. Something good."

"She kissed you back. Isn’t that good?"

Chris took a gulp of beer, and looked into Will’s eyes. "Not good enough."

They sat in silence for a few seconds. "A birthday party?"

"A fuckin’ birthday party." Chris replied. "Do I just wait?"

"You wait."

"For how long?" He shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

Will sat back and put his feet up on his table. "As long as it takes. She’s just been hit with a storm of information. You need to give her time."

Silence. "How much time?"

"Oh, Chris."

"Sorry." Chris tried to relax. "Sorry."

Chris heard footsteps coming from down the stairs, and knew it was Will’s wife Caroline. They’d been together for six years. Chris hadn’t owned the same car for that long. "Hey Chris." Caroline said, kissing her husband on his hairless head.

"Hi." Chris grumbled, then looked back up at Caroline. "You’re a woman, right?"

She turned around and leaned on the counter. "I think so."

Chris tried to laugh. "Tell me what you would do if you were in Grace’s shoes right now. What would a woman generally do?"

Will and Chris looked up at her like she was the all knowing, having no idea what the hell she was going to say. As much as they’d been around women, and honestly loved women, they never knew what they were thinking.

"Well," she finally said, pulling a beer out of the fridge. "I think she needs time. Did she ever tell you about her crush on you?"

Chris’s heart fluttered. "W-what? Crush, no! When? How? What? Crush?"

She put her hands in the air to try to calm him down. "It was about a year ago. She had mixed feelings since, you were still married and she didn’t think you liked her back. While you were gone, she stupidly got engaged to Michael to try to make those feelings go away. I guess right now she’s probably trying to figure out if it worked or not."

"Do you think it did?"

"Why do you men think we all know what the other one’s thinking?" She sipped her beer. "We’re not radio towers."

Will chuckled as Chris tried to stop his head from exploding. Caroline sat down next to her husband and grabbed his hand. "Ey, at least you told her and got it over with. It had to happen sometime, Chris."

He nodded, staring at their hands, interlocked with one another’s. He wanted that. He wanted that with Grace and for the first time, he knew why his marriage didn’t work out. She wasn’t Grace.

Around midnight, Chris went upstairs to leave the happy couple to do their happy couple things. He knew they were trying to hold back, seeing how worn he was. The bags under his eyes were now purple, his clothes were dirty, and his hair made him look like he had just been electrocuted. He sat down at the foot of the bed and checked his cell phone. No missed calls. Shit.

Chris woke up around five to the sound of cabinets banging in the kitchen downstairs. He didn’t even remember falling asleep, and by the way he was positioned, it looked like he passed out. He walked down the stairs, rubbing his tired eyes and went into the kitchen. Will and Caroline stopped everything when he came into the doorway. Their daughter, Annie, was perched on the kitchen table in a little carrier. Her bright blue eyes, the same color as her mom’s were looking straight at Chris. She was smiling. "What?" He mumbled, waving his pointer finger in front of hers as she tried to grab it.

Caroline walked over to another part of the kitchen and grabbed an envelope off the table. "Grace left this for you last night."

Chris looked up at her, then at Will, and took the letter. "Did you read it?"

"Of course not." Will said. "What kind of people do you think we are?"

Completely ignoring what he said, Chris took the envelope into the living room. The front said "Chris." in her handwriting. The envelope even smelled like her.

He carefully opened it up.

Dearest Chris,

I really don’t know what to say. This is really hard for me, because as Caroline probably told you, I had feelings for you about a year ago. Ten years and this suddenly happens, it just hit me pretty hard. I need some time to think, Chris. So I’m going away for a while. I don’t know where, and I don’t know when I’ll be back. But when I do come back, know that you’re the first one I will call. And know this: I don’t want to lose you. You’re my best friend, and I love you so much. So please, no matter what happens, make sure we’ll always be friends.

Grace.

Chris felt like he’d just been hit by a train. The force of the information made him fall to the ground, so weak, so tired, and so just wanting to be with her. They had never gone without talking this long. Will came to his aid and helped him to the couch.

"What if she never comes back?" Chris said, wiping a forming tear away from his eye.

"Come on, you know Grace better than that." Will's voice was calming. "She would never do that. And she said she wanted to be friends. She’s coming back. For better or for worse."

there's a little bit of foreshadowing in there, just to let ya know. :D!

New chapter :)

Something Worth Fighting For

Chapter two

Chris’ POV

I was wandering around in abandoned chamber together with Will. I kept staring at this weird construction standing next to a big wall.

“Do you know what the hell that is?”

“How shall I know? It wasn’t my idea to go to this shabby place.” A gruffly voice muttered from behind.

“Oh well, I just wanted test if your creative mind spares some useful answer!” I laughed and turned around to smile at him.

When I did so, I just saw him leaning against another wall, looking at me with his typical death stare.

“Common Will, don’t make such a face, soon enough we’ll leaving. And then we’re gonna have some awesome wodka party!” I laughed again, because immediately a mental picture of Guy being drunk and flirting with Russian chicks appeared in my mind.

“Stop talking bullshit and keep your weird thoughts to yourself Chris.” He huffed. He then pushed himself away from the wall and went to the only door to this room.

“Hey, we weren’t even in here for two minutes, and you already want to leave?”

“No, I’m not gonna leave. I’m just locking the door.”

My fingertips started to tingle. What was he going to do?

“…and?” I looked at him, nervously. He was never so cryptically like that, even if he was very angry at me.

“…and now I’m coming back to you, obviously. Without Jonny. And Guy. Or someone else who’s going to annoy me with ridiculously rules for behaviour when some idiot almost killed the love of your life. Now I’m finally alone with that prick who destroyed my life.”

He now turned around on his heels and stared directly into my eyes. And even in a distance of almost 50 foot I could this menacing sparkle in his eyes.

Shit.

“Will, please, let me explain!” I stammered.

“There’s nothing to explain. Only after this maybe, I have to explain why I did this to you. But I’m sure that they will understand…”

He started walking very slowly towards me. Slowly but steady.

Like a freight train. It starts slowly, but once it achieves its maximum speed, it’s unstoppable.

“Will, WILL! Why don’t you just accept that it was an accident, a freakin’ accident! It wasn’t my fault! I didn’t know that she drove by her own! Why can’t you just accept that it wasn’t anybody’s fault?! Please!!”

I walked back slowly, raising my hands to somehow calm him down, but also knowing that it wouldn’t stop that walking death machine.

“Now you’re gonna pay.” He said, and with that, he started running like a mad man, covered a distance of 45 foot in two seconds, finishing his sprint with both of his hands on my throat.

I was seriously hyperventilating while reading that. I'm still freaking out.

I...must...know...what...happens! X.x

It's funny: in Christina's fanfic, Will is the gentle friend and father figure Chris needs. In Thalia's, on the other hand....:uhoh2:

:bomb:

holy cripe these stories are frickin awesome! keep typing christina! :whip:

RUN, CHRIS, RUN:laugh3:

Good Job Christina!!! I don't think Chris should just wait around for her to make up her mind, if she tells him she has no idea when she'll be back:laugh3:

Haha yeah, our stories are a little bit different

Well, I'll post the next chapter tomorrow, because in Germany it's sleeping time now :wacky:

And Chrisitina, I HEART your fanfiction, I wish my vocabulary was as good as yours, but oh well, I still have to learn >___<

Good night everybody!

Awesome new chapters!!

Grace can give him enough time to write "Parachutes 2" now.

She can tell she loves him after he finished writing and composing, but not earlier!

Such a pity she left before he could make a salad for her!!!

Although that didn't prove to be a wise thing to do for him to get a woman

East Russia is in Asia, West Russia is in Europe. That's the only way to definitively put it in one of the two: split the country into two reigons. The country as a whole is usually considered to either be in Europe or both.

:stunned:

AWESOME PLACE!!!! I just discovered it yesterday!!! Love you people for you creativity and love your fanfictions!!!

Please more! MORE!!! :D

I have so much reading to do to catch up with all the stories.... I can't wait! ;)
