Songs that take you back...

Featured Replies

When I first heard "Yellow", it was when my best friend's band played it at a school talent show. Now whenever I hear it, it reminds me of that time and how great everything was then.

Several other songs also have memories associated with them so whenever I listen to them, I am able to go back to that time and how I felt then.

If you have any songs that are like this for you, what are they, and what do they remind you of?

Well there's a song I listened in repeat mode as I was reading an entire Manga series. Now everytime I listen to that song I get pictures of that manga in my head. That's really cool.

The series is Fly, and the song is Pink Floyd's Julia Dream, or how PF show they can make a wonderful 3-minute-verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus song if they want to.

Another one is MC Solaar(french rapper)'s Caroline, which reminds me of a girl who broke my heart and never really left my head, and of course is named Caroline.

If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next takes me back to 1998 which had been a pretty miserable year all round for me culminating in the Omagh bombing atrocity. This song was like a shining beacon to me and was what made me a Manics fan! The duet Celine Dion did with the Bee Gees 'Immortality' brings back sad memories for me of when my favourite racehorse One Man died and they showed clips of his races backed with this song on Ch 4 racing. I remember blubbing and so was Ch 4 Racing presenter Lesley Graham.

And what about bagpipe music??

there's a song that reminds me of my ex-girlfriends (from a national band, extremoduro). now i don't like that kind of music, so i never have to think about her!:laugh3:

EDIT: 50 posts! such a ridiculous mark haha

And what about bagpipe music??

Bagpipe music reminds me of the wonderful, beautiful city that is Edinburgh and just Scotland in general!

I was just thinking about it today!, The Age of The Understatement reminds me of my new house, when we first moved, i was listening to this over and over when we first got here, and it's nice because i remember i was so exciting and when i listen to that amazing song i remember when we first moved!

"America" by Razorlight, I listened to it on repeat for weeks because i was performing it at the school concert..and every since that performance friends (i say friends..people i spoke to now and again..or never)have found it funny to go

"OH OH OH! OHHH!"

...and after 2 years they still found it very funny...which highlighted that they weren't friends..actually idiots

haha, you said that in the razorlight forum!

Most Beatles songs remind me of times I'd rather forget...and no, I'm not talking about the 60's - I'm not that old ;)

Why Does It Always Rain on Me reminds me of driving to my great grandmothers funeral a few years ago. There was a HUGE thunder and lightening storm that started when that song came on.

"Sunny days

Where have you gone?

I get the strangest feeling you belong

Why does it always rain on me?

Is it because I lied when I was seventeen?

Why does it always rain on me?

Even when the sun is shining

I can't avoid the lightning"

Start Over by Abandoned Pools.

Last time I fell in love with a girl, I knew we were gonna break up when I took the train to go back home without her. It was 5am, we were both tired and I couldn't cry even though she didn't want to kiss me. I sat in the bus helplessly and this song popped up in my MP3 player. Since then, this song has been there reminding me of the love I had for her and the feeling of hopelessness I had.

But now these days (and my f*cking émo sadness) are long over and the song that takes me back to the summer we spent together has become our fan-favourite...Viva La Vida ^^

The Scientist means a lot to me everytime I listen to it I think of my grandpa cuz I used to listen to that song a lot while I was taking care of him... now that he passed away that song reminds me of how happy I used to be when he was by my side

I can think of quite a few of such songs... "Seaside" by The Kooks is definitely one of them as it always reminds me on the best holidays I had when I was in Brighton in summer '06.

"My Eyes" by Travis reminds me a lot on a special boy and so does "Nicest Thing" by Kate Nash...

I also connect "America" by Razorlight with my trip to Dublin and whenever I listen to "Follow the light" by Travis I always have to think of the great bus rides I had when I was in the UK back in summer '07. :)

Oooh many many songs remind me of so many things.

Californication and Lemon Tree remind me of my ex because he LOVED playing them. :nice:

I can't think of any more at the moment, but I'm sure if I heard any of those songs I'd know exactly what was going on at the particular period of time.

If you have any songs that are like this for you, what are they, and what do they remind you of?

practically every song i have reminds me of something or some sort of period in my life...

especially because i usually buy an album and listen to it allllot during a couple of weeks and then i buy a new one and kind of abonden the others....

so a certain album would remind me of something specific, and i if i'll listen to an album i hadnt listened to it in a long time now, it'll probably remind me of something :P
