Hi I'm Jimmy and I hate Coldplay!

I be Jimmy, I'm from Newark, NJ, and I hate Coldplay... well, I used to anyway.

I'm a musician myself, guitar is my main bag. I've grown up listening to a lot of classic rock, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Who, The Beatles, etc. I was a big grunge follower as a kid, loved Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc. I like hard hitting rock and roll and Soft Rock has never done it for me.

So naturally, when Coldplay came out, my initial reaction was disgust. I hated them and considered them to be a bunch of fags.

That started to change when I saw how popular they were getting. I couldn't understand it. What was so great about these guys?

When Viva La Vida came out, I decided to give it a listen. I'm a big fan of Brian Eno's work with U2 so I figured, "Well hey, if Brian produced it, it must be good." When I first listened to it, I felt the same way I did before about all the other Coldplay albums. Fast foward a few listens later, it started to sink in a little.

I'm still not a fan of Coldplay, but closer than I've ever been at the moment. The only problem I really have with Coldplay (I think they are all excellent musicians and they write good songs) is their energy. I find them to be very boring at times. In fact, I was so inspired by the sheer boredom of "Viva La Vida" that I made my own version of it:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Cr-G3BuzSM&feature=channel_page]YouTube - "Viva La Vida" (Hard Rock Mix) by Coldplay[/ame]

So as I get bombarded with hate mail at this point by Coldplay fans, just remember I right on the verse of possibly being a fan. If you wanna help me see what it is that makes Coldplay the greatest band out there now, I'd love to hear it.

I won't give you hate mail, I understand where you're coming from. I used to run and hide whenever my mom would listen to Keane and such. But then I found Coldplay and I love this music now.

But I still love really heavy rock too, I'm one of the most musically diverse people you're likely to meet.

I love your Viva remix, very exciting. I too have grown a little tired of Viva la Vida, I think this remix gives it a cool new energy.

So I appreciate you at least trying them out,and if you ever want to talk about any other kind of music, I'm all ears (Literally)

Hello Jimmy!:hat:

Hey, just give strawberry swing a spin - that one's all up-beat, fast, and high energy!

Yeah, Strawberry Swing is my favorite from VLV for the reasons you mentioned.

Nah, don't worry about nasty replies. I understand your argument. There has been a couple of times when my brother (not a Coldplay fan) has asked me for A Rush of Blood to the Headto fall sleep :laugh3:

Hey Jimmy welcome to our wonderful world!

I don't think you'll get that much hate mails because this is a very tollerant forum and it is your feeling about the music and that's ok!

Even if this is the Coldpaly fourm you can talk about whatever you want.

Maybe if you insult Coldpaly again and again there could be the possibility that you get some hat mails, but you just said that you hate them or that you're a possibly being fan. I can't see anything bad at this.

Have a nice time ;)

I can relate because personally I find myself at odds with alot of Coldplay fans music wise. I still like my heavy metal and tend to dislike most of the bands that are considered to be in Coldplay's ilk. Ironically I guess I actually hate Martin's influence Bono and U2 but love Coldplay.

The reason for this is because honestly they're such a multi-dimensional band, or atleast unlike alot of their counterparts they wallow in the muck and sorrow and can also be as bright and beautiful as any band before or since. They seem to understand that to play only one kind of song is to be limiting and further experiment with their sound. What's cool though is that Coldplay mainly started out as a more instrumental based band and now their sound is more synthetic in nature but in a good way. Besides Chris' voice doesn't annoy the piss out of me like say Bono or the guy from The Killers.

And I too used to HATE Coldplay or I should say more specifically the song "Yellow" (don't worry, I've come to appreciate that song as much as any of their tracks). I think the first song that I actually liked by Coldplay was "What If". That song turned me into a fan of the band, well that and Clocks. Plus I couldn't believe they cut such heavy tracks like "Politik" and "Square One" (Btw Glass Of Water blew me away when I heard that one, again Coldplay branches out) but then could write such happy and sad songs. After back tracking I began to love each album although for me personally I enjoy more of Coldplay's NON-Hits...I'm like that with every band though.

Welcome here!

I don't think you'll be hated here...As long as you are respectfull and tolerant (and judging from your first post, you seems to be), everything is ok ;) It would be boring if everyone listen to the same things!

The only problem I really have with Coldplay (I think they are all excellent musicians and they write good songs) is their energy. I find them to be very boring at times.

Buy a ticket to one of their live show and judge from here. Your opinion might change :)

It's funny because it's something that people often say: 'they are boring'... but on stage...well, like almost every band, totally different story!! They don't play their music, they litterally live it...It's really amazing to see how 'inspired' they seem when they play.... (for Chris, it's obvious on the piano, it's like a transe, but even the quiet one : Will, on stage, he's on fire...like one of their roadie lovely said: "It's kind of like being kicked in the head by a ballerina in army boots" I always wonder how his drums don't fall apart at the end of a gig  )

Anyway: welcome and enjoy the music
