Why women with Size 14 figures are happiest with life

Featured Replies

I find it annoying because I'm a US size 4 naturally, a little underweight but I've done everything and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it, and I get comments about being anorexic and all of that. I mean honestly, it's my natural shape, but no. I just find it hyper-critical things can be said like that.

Well i should be thinner for my height, but i think im fine how i am. But everyone is shaped differently. I have a friend who is taller than me and thinner and looks just fine. Some people are naturally thin and others are naturally curvy. But, when people starve themselves, or over exercise to change there whole body shape to fit into the "ideal" body shape that society protreys i think its sad.

There is alot of pressure on young women and also young men today. I was in the mall a few days ago and this girl was trying on clothes and she was petit probs a size 2-4 dress and she was complaining about being fat.. as her mother told her she was getting chubby!.

*that was a long blab* haha

Yeah... that's just irresponsible of her. Some people have a warped view of healthy these days.

And unfortunately a lot of them work in the media!

Yusss. <_<

Media doesn't have much to do with it. I know that's probably heresy but here's why:

1. There's no indication that anorexia (as a percentage of the total population) is on the rise. Sure there are more anorexic people, but that's only because there are more people.

2. If the media is pressuring us to be thin, then they're doing a terrible job. Over 60% of Americans are overweight, and Europe isn't far behind. These numbers are going up.

The media may make you FEEL bad for being overweight or unhealthy, but it's not actually changing the way you behave! I remember there was a study recently that showed you are far more influenced by your friends than the media. So if you have thin friends, you'll eat less, and visa versa.

My problem with the media is how judgmental they are. A large proportion of them seem to revel in pointing out celebrities flaws. Years ago, I used to read Heat magazine - it was quirky and fun, but a couple of years in they stopped putting the usual celeb pictures on the front cover and started plastering them with "bad hair day" photos or "skinny stars getting fat" stories.

Anyone who's ever been photographed will have images where they're not looking their best - just because you're famous doesn't mean you should be publicly ridiculed in such a spiteful way, just because you nipped out to the shops without any make up.

And no publication is worse than the one that started this thread. Fat or thin, the Daily Male loves nothing better than critcising women.

I think the media has some influence on peoples body image. But friends do as well.

Well they're fair game if they've allowed themselves to be glammed up and airbrushed for the glossies for the purpose of earning megabucks.;)

By showing them with no make-up on, the papers are showing all these celebs are "normal" after all, so they're actually providing a service.

If they can't take the heat, these celebs should get out of the "fake" kitchen altogether, or otherwise cease aiding and abetting the "false image" industry in the first place.;)

Pardon my language, but that's absolute crap. They are not providing a service, because they are not saying "Hey, look at her, she's normal", they're saying "Ooh, isn't she ugly without make-up" or "Wow, hasn't she put on weight"

And using the "well they get paid a fortune so they should just put up with it" line is the laziest argument of all!

Well perhaps they could rephrase it then, but the fa©ts still speak for themselves.;)

Well nobody forces any of them to become celebs, so they all have a choice.;)

RedGirl, that's why there's such a thing as "publicists". In that line of work, you do everything in your power from preventing photographs like these from being published, and you wine & dine magazine editors to keep them from getting mad at your clients!

The service magazines provide is to advertise products to women, so the more scandalous the photos, the more exposure the ads will get. The idea is that you'll think, "Oh, if only she had used that Oil of Olay facial cream, then she wouldn't have been all spotty!"

Yes - and then you've got people like Fearne Britton misleading people about how they lost weight, and then using this "fib" to get advertising contracts.:dozey:

I have no time for her profiting from her weight loss by claiming it was because she was eating riveta, but can you blame her for wanting to keep the operation a secret, knowing what our press are like? What business it it of theirs what operations anyone has?

There are probably loads of famous men who've had similar procedures, but the press aren't hounding them, are they.

The fact is plenty of male celebs go out looking a state once in a while either because they're just going about their day-to-day lives, have put on a bit of weight or whatever. But at least 90% of those photos that take bitter delight in someone looking less than their best are of women. Your "newspaper" of choice criticised Gwyneth Paltrow for going to a party without wearing any make-up. Seriously, is that a news story???

And I did notice the note of concern that The Daily Mail has for Joaquin Phoenix - "fears for his health". Will they show the same care and consideration for the next famous women to put on weight? I somehow doubt it...

RedGirl, take a look at the typical Men's Health magazine cover:

Both sexes have to put up with the same crap. There were loads of handsome, very sweet guys at my high school and college who were ignored by girls in favor of losers on the sports teams.

The media makes fun of the hapless young lad who's incapable of getting the god-like beauty queen to even notice him. So it goes both ways.

Definitely. Guys are all pressured to look like David Beckham or Brad Pitt nowadays by the same negative forces.:dozey:

Holy shiz... :stunned: point well taken. None of those actors actually look like that- they've all been photoshopped- alot.

I'll leave the bubbleheaded "beauty queens" out of this statement because well, they're idiots who only like who they're told to, but the sad thing about it is that in my experience most girls go more for the geeky beanpole types who can carry on a real conversation than that silly musclebound stereotype being thrown around at the moment.

So are you currently dating a "geeky beanpole" then??

they're so happy with life cause they're not starving to death, like some women. that's it. :P

and i love kate winslet! she's such a role model for young girls.

As a skinny guy, I totally agree! The only store that sells clothes that fit me really well is Banana Republic. All the department stores that sell cheap clothing cater to plus-size people.

Maybe it's only that way in America, particularly in the south. But skinny people are a minority here.

I'm a UK 6 so a US 4 I usually don't have a problem getting clothes it's just typical sometimes that if there's something I really like they won't have it, and when people tell you to eat and you do eat perfectly normally and regualrly, some people just don't understand that a person can be naturally small framed, so I completly understand where you're coming from:)

Yeah but seriously

I'd rather have a good metabolism than be fat, so be happy with what you have and be less of a whiny cock about it
