If it starts to get bad, I guess people keep hoping that things will work out in the end (when they really won't), so they keep holding on to it. Breakups are depressing (though I guess one needs to take chances sometimes). Also, I might as well mention that I agree that I would indeed deserve to die if I thought being a promiscuous whore was a perk to being single.
