Haha he was joking,he would say that anyways.

Coldplay Chris Martin laughs off U2's Bono slur

COLDPLAY'S Chris Martin has laughed off a personal slur by one of the world's most sanctimonious singers - Bono.

The U2 singer playfully called Martin a "w--ker,'' a "completely dysfunctional character'' and a "cretin'' on live UK radio last week, as well as a "great melodist.''

"I always thought he felt that way,'' Martin joked.

"I think it's great that we're arch enemies,'' Martin said. "That's a joke too.''

Martin has long used U2 as the benchmark for Coldplay, with U2 saying Martin's band also keep them on their toes.

The mutual lovefest continues: Coldplay are now playing U2's new single Magnificent just before they come on stage "as a mark of respect.''

"We respect any musician,'' Martin said, ``particularly ones who've kept going and not changed line up and have always been good.

"The difficulty of the whole U2 thing is we're only on our fourth record. We're competing with people on their fifth records. We're just coming up to where people were making (the Beatles') Revolver or (U2's) The Joshua Tree. We're at a very different stage.''

You're just a little bit of sunshine on this forum.:sunny:

Of course. :smug: And not two-faced or "fake" like some I could mention.......................

much the fuss about nothing.

U2 jealous of Coldplay?

U2=140 million albums sold worldwide, coldplay=40 million albums sold worldwide

much the fuss about nothing.

That has nothing to do with it, as U2 have been around a lot longer (at least 15 years). Plus they were around at a time when downloads weren't possible and far more albums were sold.;)

so far only various forms of the joker have been on this site. No two face or batman yet.

or robin. :(

U2 has 12 albums and have been around way longer.

Coldplay has 4 since 2000.

U2 has had a long time to reach 140 million

HAHAHAHAHA!!! He's obviously joking, and I'm not surprised Chris would be the first to laugh it off (and probably agree to being a wanker,lol.).

Uh-oh...do I have to apologize now?;)

Chris already has laughed it off.

U2 have said it was a joke.

Yet we're all still arguing over it

Sorry, I was referring to the article, but I've only had a few hours sleep, so my grammar sucks.;) As for still arguing over it, loyal, protective fans...what can you do with 'em?

If I were Chris (or anyone else) I'd be focusing on all the great stuff Bono said. It's not every day your musical idols compare you to Noel orPaul.:D

Oh I know you were :D

I was just commenting generally :D

As for still arguing over it, loyal, protective fans...what can you do with 'em?

So the big question is, what's worse? The overreaction to Bono's comments, or the overreaction to the overreaction to his comments?

Surely nobody can have been surprised how this story was greeted on here??:dozey:

If it really was a whole load of nonsense from start to finish, what was the point in posting it in the first place??

Couldn't agree with you more.

I'd have to agree with you both. But it is a coldplay forum, so any little tidbit is worth posting. It was worth it for the 'pee in the shower' business if nothing else!

Exactly, especially when posted by the site owner! :P

nope, i'm not surprised by the reaction to this story, just disappointed that people are so blindly loyal and quick to judge without looking into context or the primary source of the story itself.

and by your argument, probably about 90% of the stuff posted on this site is "pointless."

In which case, what's the point in complaining about people's reactions to it?

At the end of the day, a bit of Bono-bashing is doing no more harm than Bono's comments about Chris in the first place.

The whole thing's just a bit of a laugh from start to finish at the end of the day, so either all the comments should be accepted, or none at all.........................

Well, if we're going to make pointless posts, why not just make a 'Wanker' thread and call whoever we want a wanker? Now THAT'S pointless.
