I was in my mid-teens and know very well what the popularity of U2 was then compared to Coldplay now. And I was talking about in the UK, I did mention that in my post. <edit> oh and to my mind U2 will never make a better album than ARoBttH. Tonsu, you might be right about this whole popularity thing ... but popularity was never a measure for quality and you might've forgotten that CDs, mp3 files, you name it, are far more accessible now than in past. It might not be the case in the UK or the US, but when my dad was young, he had to go to a foreign country if he wanted to buy a record or a CD.

Well first of all, Coldplay have been a band for nearly 13 years, so it would take less than 20 years!!! And trust me mate, im not slagging off U2. in fact im a big U2 fan myself, but I think we should be able to come to terms with the fact that Coldplay ARE considered as big, successful and musically genius as U2. At the moment they are much bigger than what U2 was after giving out 4 albums. I’ve listened to every single U2 song ever, and I feel as if I can connect to Coldplay’s songs considerably more than I can to U2’s (which is why I prefer them by miiiiiles!) ; but then again, that’s just personal a view. So although I know accepting that Coldplay has achieved a huge success and recognition in music and that they are a threat to U2, I think its fair to recognise that! AND, UK isn’t just “just one isolated area” and Coldplay are huge everywhere, not just UK mate!!!;)

March 1, 200917 yr There's no point in arguing this anymore since it is apparent that the a overwhelming number of the coldplaying population on here has the IQ of a rock (Not all of you). Maybe you guys should actually listen to what Bono said before you jump to conclusions. Bono is clearly not a Coldplay hater. If you listened to the interview you would know that. U2 are one of the biggest influences on Coldplay, and if it weren't for U2 you wouldn't have Coldplay. Its as simple as that. I'm not saying you have to like U2 or have to like Bono. But it is important to recognize the bands such as U2, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Kraftwork, Travis, etc. and their role in shaping the Coldplay band that you all love so dearly. You should be thankful for their role in music, not bashing them. Again, this message isn't for everybody, its just for the closed minded people who are jumping to conclusions and making a bad name for Coldplay fans. (especially the twat who said that Bono, a humanitarian, should be assassinated). I love you briggs :heart: I was just using that to show that Coldplay aren't a band that have absolutely nothing to do with swearing. I don't care that was in the video. And as a Coldplay fan and a U2 fan I am entitled to discuss both bands on this forum. Chris was joking about addictive habits and that his was chocolate, and for him it was as addictive as cocaine. Jo Whinely stopped the show. She forced him to apologise before they went on. Poor Chris was very embarrassed by it but the interview went on. How. THE HELL. Do you think Bono was a) being serious about calling Chris a wanker b) actually making this a BIG DEAL. The BBC have made this a big deal by stopping both cases and forcing them to apologise. Why? Because then they cover it AS NEWS. The outburst came during an interview with presenter Jo Whiley before a rooftop concert at Broadcasting House on Friday. Bono was keen to reiterate his position at the top of the rock'n'roll hierarchy, while promoting his new album No Line On The Horizon. But he appeared to forget where he was, using the word "wanker" live on air.
