Radiohead Are Poor

Well of course. But there's only so much one can say to someone who didn't think their argument through and spends the rest of the time trying to save face.

Ian and/or the moderators, please lock this thread. It gives so much of a bad reputation over Coldplay fans that my head hurts beyond my ability to describe.

I thank everyone who made some constructive criticism, and poo on those who haven't (and I do realise I might be one of them).

Thank you for your attention.

This thread is really ridiculous.

What the bloody hell are you talkling about?! I have never mentioned Hannah Montana ONCE! Then you go on about Miley Cyrus? Who's she?! You must know, you obviously have large amounts of knowledge on these people. Your an idiot. And don't criticise Oasis. They are more iconic and greater than Radiohead and after all you only live in Canada so you'd know nothing about the British music scene. Come back after you've read up on Oasis. What next? Gonna make fun of U2? Utter knowledgless pillock.

:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: Heehee! Dude, I wondered if you were going to take the bait, but that was EPIC!!! :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:

And I have a big pile of Oasis CDs in my room that disagrees with you. :P

For the record, I was teasing because of your ironic timing, see: http://www.mtv.co.uk/artists/miley-cyrus/news/100960-miley-cyrus-snubbed-by-radiohead

You know, the funniest part of that was that my head is so completely engulfed in the British scene that a friend just chewed me out the other day for it.

I was telling her about IDM (while we were writing an essay for class about The Verve's big copyright battle) so she looked it up on Wikipedia and it said that IDM started in Britain. I think the rant was something along the lines of how many different types of music are there from Britain anyway, why do I have to listen to them all, and do I ever actually listen to anything that isn't British?

I do listen to Canadian music every once in a while, for the record. But the British scene is better.

...They have Radiohead, after all.

haha... that's great especially when you read the other post

Wow. I mean, I love british bands. Most of my library consists of music from Britain, but good lord, you got me beat, hands down.

Over the past year I've started to shift from the British scene to the Canadian + American scene.

Now I know there are a lot of people on here that likes Radiohead, so please respect my opinion. It is only my opinion. I don't like them. Radiohead are far too pretentious for my liking and are so arrogant that they never seem to praise any other band despite the praise they get. Also I'm not fooled like many reviewers into thinking Radiohead are intelligent. Radiohead create crap sounding music that everyone thinks sounds good, only that they are forced into thinking it sounds good because if you say something against this band then you are deemed "not intelligent". I won't be fooled personally. Thom Yorke is inferior to Chris Martin in every single way. The man can't even sing for God's sake! Why on earth are they not subject to criticism?? If they were so good they would have sold hundreds of millions of albums now in their 16 year career. As it turns out they've only sold 26 million albums in that period. Coldplay have sold 47 million in 8 years. Oasis sold 20 million on one album alone. They've got 50 million in around the same period as Radiohead. Album sales tell a lot for rock bands. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, U2.... they've all sold them in their hundreds of millions, in The Beatles cases billions. Coldplay's music is much more loved than Radiohead's.

ever heard of so called "turn arounds"? those are rows of chords that are repeated in 2058209573890517589175931751987 songs of pop history (obviously the ones that were most successful) and that are stuck in peoples' heads and that's why those bands who use these special chords sell most records...these record sellings have NOTHING to do with the quality of a band...there were bands who tried to be new and to be successful...they used exotic chords and they failed....the songs that were most successful by the Rolling Stones for example also used these "turn arounds"....music is a matter of taste. period. If you don't like Radiohead that's ok...I must admit there are a bunch of songs that I don't like by Radiohead, because they sound too annoying imo...but I respect them a fucking lot fot their music...currently it's the best in the world in my opionion...you always have to make a difference...

Lot of good stuff from American artists in the last year.

Oh for sure. They ruled 2008 in my books. Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, TV on the Radio, Deerhunter...the list goes on!

I still have to listen to Vampire Weekend.

Just looking back on my top 25 albums of 2008. 17 of them were North American.

Vampire Weekend got on my nerves after listening to them twice...you get tired of them quite fastly I think...

No wai man. I think it's got a great cohesive sound. Makes me happy.

^They have a nice, relaxing sound and all, but they do get a little annoying after a while. Their songs can be really repetitive. I'm always going back and forth with what I think about them, though.

*makes a note of thread for "thread of the month" award* :P

Vampire Weekend IMO is pretty terrible.

But I wasn't aware Radiohead are arrogent, their very level headed down to earth people. In every way possible Thom Yorke is the most talented musician.

Chris is more akin to a smarter Noel Galligar than a comparison to Radiohead.

Especially as I get the opinion Chris Martin is the only personality in the band.

That is true. I think people are more aware of the other members of Radiohead than the other members of Coldplay.

I don't think Radiohead to be arrogant. I think Thom Yorke can be kind of a twat sometimes, but I will defend him to the ends of the earth, because the man is an incredible artist and has profoundly influenced my life.
