Radiohead Are Poor

Featured Replies

are you people really talking about this??

Listen to the music you want, you don't have to take any shit for it but you definitely don't need to start a war about it. Respect others' tastes and hope yours are respected in return. It never cost anyone to be a little nice.

oh my god you've got 666 posts quick post something else quick!

:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:

Thank you so much for making me guffaw out of my seat!

I respect the OP's opinion, however, I don't agree with him at all. I'm sort of a social Radiohead listener. I'm not at all moved by them as I am Coldplay, but I think Thom Yorke is incredibly talented and constantly puts out music that is ahead of the musical curve.

And that's the problem with the music industry today. Just because you have big money or a big corporation backing you and promoting, doesn't make you a great artist. I am sure that there are many truly great artists out there, but never get to be heard because they can't afford the big bucks needed to make it in this industry. Radiohead yes, made their money with the corporate world, but now they have some money to work with. They can go independent and still have the musical genius and artistry to overcome anything. Even if they went into foreclosure and claimed bankrupcy tomorrow would not change their ability to create their music. I'm sure there would be benefit shows and donations on their behalf! :P

this thread is not poor anymore...

now is full of comedy :P

I'm partial to Vampire Weekend and MGMT

MGMT is awesome. Lots of fun.

It is only my opinion. I don't like them.

Okay?

Radiohead are far too pretentious for my liking and are so arrogant that they never seem to praise any other band despite the praise they get.

Wrong. Thom Yorke's favourite band is Pixies and he considers them the greatest band of all time.

Radiohead create crap sounding music that everyone thinks sounds good, only that they are forced into thinking it sounds good because if you say something against this band then you are deemed "not intelligent".

Listen to Paranoid Android, and say that again. ;o Radiohead's music is not just music. It's an expression. It's art. Now we all love Coldplay, but we have to be honest, a lot of their songs use the same chord progressions, etc. Radiohead has implemented new things into each of their albums, and they've always done it brilliantly. There's a reason they're classified as "Art Rock."

I won't be fooled personally. Thom Yorke is inferior to Chris Martin in every single way. The man can't even sing for God's sake! Why on earth are they not subject to criticism??

You're absolutely right. Maybe that's why Chris Martin uses the same guitar as Thom Yorke and is made fun of for trying sound too much like him. And Thom Yorke's voice is unique, and fits perfectly into the environment of Radiohead's music. I can't imagine anyone else singing those songs better than he does.

If they were so good they would have sold hundreds of millions of albums now in their 16 year career. As it turns out they've only sold 26 million albums in that period. Coldplay have sold 47 million in 8 years. Oasis sold 20 million on one album alone. They've got 50 million in around the same period as Radiohead.

I just think it's fucking awesome that you went through the trouble find all those figures. If we're talking about money made, albums sold, awards won, 50 cent is the best artist in the world at the moment. Dude got nominated for like 12 grammys. Radiohead got one nomination and didn't win.

Album sales tell a lot for rock bands. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, U2.... they've all sold them in their hundreds of millions, in The Beatles cases billions.

All album sales tell about a band are if they have a good marketing campaign. Radiohead released In Rainbows on the internet, and users had to decide how much they want to pay for the album. Coldplay, on the other hand, released a Lost! EP with like five different versions of one song, one of which, if I may add, is a terrible fucking remix with Jay-Z.

Coldplay's music is much more loved than Radiohead's.

Get the fuck out of my sight. ;o

Ahem, "Art Rock"? :laugh3:

Look, Radiohead have a few nice songs, but most of it sounds like a meowing cat running through some trash cans to me.

Of course, Radiohead fans probably take it as a point of pride that they enjoy music that other people consider strange. I suspect Radiohead themselves dread the day they begin to actually win Grammy awards - it would be their death knell.

You know..... They have won grammys.

Well I meant winning them by the truckload like hip hop artists do.

But wait... now grammys are a GOOD thing? Oh dear! ;)

My point wasn't if they're good or bad. >_< My point was not to judge an artist or band's music based on how many CDs they've sold, how much money they've made, or how many grammys they've won.

Have you ever actually listened to the words of the meowing cat? Radiohead's lyrics are, IMO, Radiohead's strongest point.

this thread is funny, stupid, pointless, boring, lame and awesome at the same time. but i still enjoyed reading through the entire thing and reading the pathetic arguments people had against radiohead. for me there's only a handful of things i dislike about radiohead. for the benefit of those of you who are intellectually disadvantaged i will put it in point form

- thoms lyrics are at times all over the place and illogical

- most of their music really only has one mood and thats depressing

- besides thom the rest of the band lack any sort of personality

- they're nothing special live on stage

- haven't toured australia in 5yrs ie no respect for fans

- their arrogance doesn't bother me too much but it would be nice if they weren't like that

this is coming from someone who owns every radiohead record, dozens of bootlegs, every dvd and can basically recite the tracklisting of any album (except pablo) at request.

Yeah. That's right he doesn't sound like a meowing cat, but rather someone who's just had a stroke. What Yorke was singing in that song it was a bloody mess! And the irritation of that voice... it tore me! Coldplay are greater, if you think Radiohead are better then why the hell are you on this site? Go to the Radiohead forum to discuss this heavily depressing and overrated band. Record sales for rock bands don't lie, that argument is completely worthy. More people think Coldplay are better so it can only be true that they are better than Radiohead... but hey that's just an opinion. I don't hate Thom Yorke, I just think he's a very hypocritical, arrogant being. I can't stand people who write motivated songs motivated by individual politicians. Yorke wrote a song about George W Bush and showing his disgust of the man. I didn't like Chris Martin's public criticism of Bush during the period of the Iraq war, so just realise how mad I was when I realised Yorke had written a song about Obama taking over from Bush. Plus Yorke is a massive hypocrite. He goes on about "save the world" yet has the bloosy cheek to go on 1 and a half year tours all around the world. Unless the planes were powered from his own farts then I take that back. Which reminds me, if Yorke farted in to a microphone it'd be given critical praise as well.

Ahem, "Art Rock"? :laugh3:

listen to kid a or amnesiac first...

and one mood, only, only a depressing mood?

Yes they have a lot of depressing lyrics, but listen to ALL of their albums, and you'll find everyone having a DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE MOOD .

Yeah. That's right he doesn't sound like a meowing cat, but rather someone who's just had a stroke. What Yorke was singing in that song it was a bloody mess! dude :dozey:

I thought your opinion could n't get more lame, but I think I should ask the mods to move this to the fail thread :dozey:

:laugh3: I dunno if you are serious or if this is totally a joke. There's no point in continuing on. Don't you understand that you aren't going to change my, or anyone elses opinion and i'm not going to change yours at all. Honestly I also don't see what was the point of creating this thread in the first place, was it supposed to accomplish something? This thread is really pointless.

Geez..this is pathetic..

Radiohead is poor; only people who dont know Radiohead would say that.

Yeah. That's right he doesn't sound like a meowing cat, but rather someone who's just had a stroke. What Yorke was singing in that song it was a bloody mess! Oh god, he's back. :laugh3:

I could probably take a few moments and dig up a few worthy statements of intellect, and some factual evidence negating all that he's said, but this fucker is just not worth my goddamned time.

lock this thread up.

You can have a rubbish album selling truck-loads due to a heavy marketing campaign, and you can have a brilliant album slipping under the radar due to lack of marketing.

radiohead are poor... well phil and thom at least. on tour they kept wearing the same red pants (thom), and purple shirt (phil)... perhaps we should chip in a few bucks and get the lads some new clothes.

:rolleyes::D
