What is your first Historical event memory?

What is the first Historical event that you have experienced that you can remember?

And so you think it has influenced you and people your age?

I remember that we were asked that in a class, and most my friends answered Lady Di death.

So what is the first one you can remember?

First one I remember is most likely the first Gulf War (I think?) though I was too young to understand most of it.

First one I witnessed as it happened was the 9/11 attacks - longest night at work ever.

It probably wasn't the first, but the earliest I really remember all the details was 9/11. I was in fourth grade at the time and I came home and my parents told me all about what had happened. I kept thinking it had to have been an accident but everyone assured me it was an attack. The next day in school we spent the whole day sitting and just talking. It was really something.

It definitely opened my eyes, and from that day on, everything seemed to change. I am glad America has been able to somewhat heal and get stronger, but that day will live on in our hearts forever.

hmmm i was in fourth grade when 9/11 happened. i doubt i need to elaborate.....

oh and i dont know if this counts, but i was in second grade when we hit year 2000! thats a pretty cool thing that we can all say that we lived through the turn of a millennium! :D

i like this thread idea by the way!

Hmm...

Bombardment in 1999. Don't know how they called it, but I know they attacked Serbia. I was 4. I think it influenced memories of my friends, probably all of us remember going to the basements, the sound of alarms and airplane engines, etc.

I think it'd be the Y2K celebrations as Lauren said, we had a historical celebration next to the Pyramids, it was mind blowing!

Whoa, that must have been terrifying! :stunned:

Sorry about that! :\

Probably 9/11 also. I think I was in second grade during it... it was scary. I remember my dad picking me up from school and being really stressed out, and I asked him if he was okay, and he said, "NO, UNKNOWN THOUSANDS HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF A TERRORIST ATTACK ON NEW YORK CITY!" He was really freaked out. I got sort of scared....

I sort of remember Y2K also, but not that really well or anything.

I was really young and didn't know quite what was happening. Yes, it was scary. Don't be sorry! There are a lot of such things in the world, and a lot of worse things ;)

And if somebody is interested, look here (I didn't read it, but I guess it's a good text).

Lady Di death I guess, and 9/11 cuz that day I found out I had Hepatitis.

While 9/11 was big, I can remember well before that. So I'll say the '96 Olympics and Kerri Strug's vault. (I know there was also the bombing at that olympics, but I didn't know at the time...)

I remember Y2K very well. I was in the 4th grade, and for fun we all made time capsules that we would open on January 1st, 2001. That, and the fact that people were freaking out and stocking up cupboards.

VIOLET THAT MEANS YOU'RE IN COLLEGE NOW.

I DID NOT KNOW THIS.

You never asked. :P But yeah, I'm in my second semester. :)

I would say the oklahoma city bombing.

However, 911 I remember much more.

Yeah, Oklahoma bombing for me as well.

And OJ Simpson stuff.

I barely remember seeing the first Gulf War on TV, my dad was watching the news. It frightened me and fascinated me at the same time... I was glad it was so far away.

I don't really remember much before 9/11, considering I was only 7 when that happened. I'm sure there's other important events that I experienced before that, but none of them really stick out at me.

Wow, I'm old!:laugh3: I have to say I remember seeing some of the lunar landings live (I was 3 ), and I do remember the news about Woodstock, but just barely. I remember Nixon's impeachment, and the end of the Vietnam war.. Tumultuous times, not all that different from this epoch here.

i have a fascination with the vietnam war.

i have no idea why, but i find it intriguing.
