Are you a perfectionist?

If so, in which parts of life?

I am in one part of my life.....when I play the saxophone.

I have a "gig" tonight at a place where some musicians meet and everyone plays something. I have some sheet music at home, but this is not good enough for me. They are too easy and the ones I would play I can't find anymore...

so, now I decided to play "in the mood" by heart with some improvisation in between and aaaaaahhhhhh I am actually really scared, because I never played something by heart in front of other people and it should be perfect!

When I play it at home it sounds good....but I'm so scared anyways...I have the feeling people expect a lot from me, because they know that I can really play...:uhoh:

And I dont really have a plan B, because my sheet music has disappeared....

ahhh it should be PERFECT!In my eyes it's one of the few things why people admire me....

:uhoh:

good luck with the concert, don't press yourself on trying it to be perfect and just enjoy it then it'll be perfect ;)

when i played any instrument in class i did it by heart... :uhoh: (ok we mainly played flute :uhoh: last year we played guitar ) but for once i pressed myself on make it perfect and it ended in a big fail. :(

well i try to be a better person each day if that can be considered as a perfectionist, then i am a perfectionist.

hm, i just think of chris martin, who does mess up a lot, right, but laughs it off and keeps going on. which is quite charming, me thinks. maybe you can go for that. is it tenor or soprano?

I could also say I'm perfectionist, but sometimes when i see that i won't do by best, i just don't make any efforts. and it doesn't lead anywhere. I think lots of trying and being patient is that what makes things more and more perfect. And I need more patience.

Yes, in some things actually.

I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my music. I hate screwing up.

No I won't play careless whisper...and I won't play take five either, although I wanted to....I have a sheet music of it, but it is for alto saxophone and I play tenor....so now I'm gonna play rock around the clock and in the mood...

i am when it comes to how i present things. i have to like my handwriting on something i'm turning in, there can't be spelling or grammar mistakes, the paper has to be clean and unwrinkled, etc :P.

in other ways, i'm not, though. i'm actually having a hard time differentiating between things i'm a perfectionist about and things i'm not a perfectionist about .

Same here. :D A lot of people think they're perfectionist but do they have the patience to actually improve and enrich the things they do?

I'm a lazy perfectionist, with some things I require perfection with others I'm too lazy to care. As I age I'm becoming less lazy and more of a perfectionist though.

Not really, but it depends. Sometimes I want to do it properly and want it to be perfect, sometimes I don't care much about it.

I realised tonight: it doesn't have to be perfect as long as you can make people happy with it. And this is what I definitely did!:smug:

i like to think that i am not a perfectionist because i couldn't care less about school work and blah blergh.

but when it comes to something i care about, such as writing, i could spend hours in front of my laptop and rewrite all my papers.

also, i have this job at a local supermarket and i even though i am just sitting at the register all day (or night) long, i want to do a good job. i want to impress my boss, which means that i, unlike my co-workers, never get up and take a break. i also get mad at myself if there's like... 1 cent missing in my register.

and i mean... it's not that i want a career in market management.

I'm a perfectionist with my photography, and a lot of the time with my writing. I can't stand anything less than what I consider the best, and if something I create doesn't meet my standards it's either discarded or worked on even more. But with school and stuff, sometimes I strive to be, but I'm not.

I hope most people realize that being a perfectionist isn't just caring what people think or trying hard. Being a perfectionist is more like an obsession, an inability to consider something finished until you are 100% positive is is your absolute best. Thom Yorke is a great example of a perfectionist, things must go according to plan and he works his ass off almost to an unhealthy level to achieve his best.
