Evolution of a Setlist

Featured Replies

I was at the first "real" US show of the Viva la Vida tour, on July 14, 2008, and I am fortunate enough to be able to be at the last US show of the tour, on August 9, 2009. And I've been to several shows in between. I got to thinking about the setlist, and was wondering how much it had changed since the first and last shows.

I like the second setlist better. I don't think they'll change it between July 19 and August 9.

The biggest change of all seems to be 42 being renamed 43

^XD

I'm surprised they played Square One and Speed of Sound, honestly.

*goes to watch square one on youtube*

Yeah, I remember they played Square One and Speed of Sound. I saw them on their third stop on the start of their tour. I miss Speed of Sound!

Ha ha...good catch. I've fixed it.

Square One is fantastical live.

Chris was still doing his X&Y moves at the beginning on the tour I think.

Wow you can see that they are playing a lot more songs on the 2nd one......

Were the concerts shorter the first time around  ???

I have the setlist from the November 25 show I went to, and they added 5 songs since the July show. The November show was just a couple of days after Prospekt's March was released and I remember hoping that they would add some songs from it, but they only added Postcards.

Chris said for the summer the shows would be longer.

Yea i noticed Speed of Sound was gone...oh well

Though I would've really liked to see Square One live

Square One opened the show in 2005. I remember those giant numbers behind the state, and thinking how appropriate Square One was for the opening song.

Square One is an awesome song and they need to stop neglecting it. Hmph, I WANT IT PLAYED.

Aww, I never got to see Square One this tour, but I did get to see Speed of Sound last November. I'm kind of upset they dropped it, since it's one of their bigger hits. I remember at the Dallas show last month, one guy in front of me yelled 'play Speed of Sound!' :(

I was super happy to get Trouble though, I had never seen that live in person before and it's one of my favourites :smug:

I got Speed of Sound, but er I would have honestly preferred Square One. Played in full, not acoustically.

for how much you pay to see Coldplay, they really should ALWAYS play the same amount of songs that they did this summer. otherwise it goes WAY too fast!

To me, it seems like they're trying to rid themselves of X&Y outside of Fix You. Yeah, there's The Hardest Part on piano and like 15 seconds of Talk remixed, but as good as they are, those aren't in original form. That's a shame, as even though some don't like X&Y, I don't think it should be totally cycled out. Speed of Sound was the track that got me into Coldplay, so while I was ecstatic that I got it last November, it was the one missing piece in July. :(

Square One is quite an epic song. It would have been a bit overwhelming to have both that and Politik imo.

When are they going to start to play more songs from their EP Prospekt March.

My dear friend, you know little of the Universe of Epic. There is never too much Epic in the Universe of Epic.

Probably never apart from GoW, since it's the only single.

It was released as a single, I tought LIT 2 was.

Glass of Water made its way onto radio and TV stations here (they used the 4Music(sp?) version of it tho). I thought it might have been.

Teach me oh wise one. :P

The glass of water video has aired on tv stations i know that. I have seen life in tech. on the tv and on radio. I also saw SS on rage this weekend.
