Sparks22
That does not to seem to be a very long time.... at least it was a very intensive one. Just have to tell you my little story. I'm kinda celebrating my first anniversary of being a Coldplay fan at the moment. Sadly I don't know the exact date but I know it was at the beginning of August one year back that I realized I had become a fan (sorry for my grammar :\). That was also a turning point in my life, finally things got better for me - I had a very tough time the months before. Then I started to listen to "Trouble" and everything made sense for me. I also remember listening to the radio while driving home from work and suddenly there was Viva la vida on it and already at the announcement of Coldplay I had such a feeling of happiness...I cannot describe it in words. :D I bought the Parachutes album and I was simply blown away - I've always searched for this kind of music. Since then I adored Coldplay and I spent the following months discovering all of their songs, background-stories, the forum and so on. I think in September 08 there was a concert of them in Germany and I was so sad that I couldn't come - I couldn't imagine that they will come again just a year later on :D - and now there are only 22 days left until I can finally see the guys :sunny: For me the whole thing is a bit unbelievable because just 3 or 4 years ago I would laugh about everyone saying "you will visit a Coldplay concert and become a big fan". I know the band since their beginning but I did not like them until one year ago. Sometimes life can be so strange. Maybe I was not mature enough for their music or could not relate to them - I don't know the reason. Enough about me - how about you? How long have you been a Coldplay fan - immediately or like me so many years later? And how did you become a fan?
pickle
i didn't become an obsessive fan until the beginning of this year. when i was younger i used to like their songs though  i just didn't really know that a lot of the songs i enjoyed singing around the house were theirs. MartinLover
actually, its my 1 year anniversary too!!! Finally! a place where i can share how i became a fan! Well actually i hadn't known about coldplay at all, but i'd heard some of their songs but i didnt know their name was coldplay so... i just didnt know them. And my brother had been a fan since the beginning and i also didnt know that. well one day i was in his car with him and he was playing the album X&Y and we were listening to Square One, which was one of his faves he said. I liked that song alot (and btw i still had no idea this was coldplay or that their name was coldplay) so he decided to play me another one- White Shadows, which to this day is my absolute favorite song. Well as you probably guessed i just fell completely in love with it and i yelled "WHO THE HECK IS THIS BAND?!?!" and my brother laughed and said, "its Coldplay." Eventually we listened to the whole album, and eventually my mom got to listening to it and we fell in love with it and stole it from my brother! Thats when I decided that i was probably a fan. Then another day long after that we were in the car and my brother was listening to album Viva La Vida and Lovers in Japan was on and i remember I just LOVED that song and yelled again, "WHO THE HECK IS THIS BAND?!?!" and again my brother said, "Its Coldplay!" and we listened to everything else, and i fell in love with the song Viva La Vida, and then i decided Coldplay was my favorite band. I continued on to hear AROBTTH and Parachutes and of course I fell in love with those too. And then, well,..... I became OBSESSED!!! :D
Bluejay
Well for me, I already knew Clocks, Speed of Sound and In My Place way before becoming a CP fan. Then one day my hairdresser put some music in my iPod while I was there (yeah, weird enough) and the Viva album was there. I started to listen to that album over and over again, and I just couldn't stop. Soon enough I like all the songs :)
pickle
yeah, i used to love clocks, talk and speed of sound, i just never really cared about the fact that they were all by the same artist. after i bought the VIVA album, i looked at more of their music and was surprised to find that they had written those songs. iduran20
I'm a little past my 1 Year Anniversary with Coldplay too! I remember I was watching the MTV Movie Awards last year, I think it was in May or June, and a band came out and played a song called Viva La Vida. I immediately fell in love with it. The next day they were repeating the show and I watched it again, and I asked my sister,"Who are they, they're really good!" She was like, "That's Coldplay." Then I asked, "Are they new?" She told me "No, you've heard they're music before. They sing Clocks, The Scientist, and Speed of Sound". I responded,"How do they go?" So she starts singing them and I was like "Ohhhhhhh...That's them!" My sister had AROBTTH so, I started listening to it, and I loved it! And like Sparks22 I soon got all the CD's and found out all the info about Coldplay and here I am today! I've been to two live shows already and hope for many many many.... more years of Coldplay!:)

nancyk58
I'm a little past my 1 Year Anniversary with Coldplay too! :) I was listening to the UK charts on 22 June, 2008, and "Viva La Vida" debuted at no. 1.:kiss:I immediately fell in love with that song:kiss::wink3:- it made me feel like flying, and I still have not landed / I have this feeling whenever I hear it.:)I immediately knew that to me it was a year-end no. 1 song and an evergreen like U2's One and Robbie William's Angels.:) I began listening a lot to MTV because MTV played Viva La Vida every single hour. I went late to bed so that I would be able to hear Viva la Vida a few times more. :)On 22 June 2008 after having heard Viva la Vida for the first time I ran to my computer to read about Coldplay and especially about singer Chris Martin. I read about his MTF campaign - how he had "Make Trade Fair.com" written on his hand and MTF emblazoned on his piano - and I was wildly impressed. :) I saw him like a sort of Bono no. 2. :)From the early summer of 2005 and up to 22 June 2008 I was obsessed with Bono and his political issues (his involvement with Make Poverty History and the DATA and ONE projects). Bono as a political factor made me interested in U2 and U2's music. Now I am obsessed with Chris Martin and Coldplay :) without having forgotten about Bono and U2! - Before 22 June 2008 I had heard Clocks, Speed of Sound and In My Place. I loved these songs, but when these songs were no longer played on the radio, I forgot about them. On 22 June, 2008 I tried to recall Coldplay songs (melodies and/or titles), but in vain (I vaguely remembered the title Clocks, but that was all! After 22 June, 2008 these songs came back into my life and are now on my mental "playlist".:laugh3:

LFDianne
It's way past my one year anniversary. When that Peter Pan movie trailer came out at the end of 2003, I really fell in love with Clocks, and it's still my favorite Coldplay song. So I bought AROBTTH, and listened to it all the time. But I wasn't obsessed yet. Then X&Y came out and I loved it, too. I went to my first concert in August 2005, and thought "who *are* these guys?" I joined coldplaying.com around the time of the Feb 2006 concert, but I lurked for a long long time. When the boys came back in Feb 2006, and I saw them again. then I became obsessed. That's when I started searching for B-sides and bootlegs. When they announced the Viva Tour, I was really excited, but then immediately bummed out because their first show was the day of our famiy vacation. I was seriously tempted to fly to Hawaii a day later than my family to go to the concert. Thank God, it sold out quickly and another show was added the day BEFORE our vacation! And well, the obsession has grown considerably over this last year. I can't get enough, and I think it's starting to concern my husband a bit. He did ask, the other day, if I really wanted to go to Wembley, Sept 18 is my birthday. But then I think of the logistics of our kids, 2 in high school and 1 fifth grader, and well, mom responsibilities or Coldplay? The funny thing, too, is my husband I went to Asia in February to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The day we were flying back to Los Angeles from Bangkok, we had a connection in Tokyo, guess what day that was? Yes, the day of Saitama. How cool would that have been? We talked to United about doing a layover, but because it would have been longer than 24 hours, they would have charged us a HUGE additional fee. The whole time during our layover in Tokyo, I was dying, knowing the boys were just a few miles away from me, halfway around the world from home. Corkus
While I've been a fan since 2006, I didn't become obsessive until about June of last year (y'know...Viva month). Before then, while I knew plenty of lyrics, I doubt I could name any band member outside Chris. Now I need mental help, lol.
Dancin4eva212
I didn't become a fan until June of last year, I had never even heard any of there songs besides Clocks but I didn't even know they sang it. mikamay
I've been a fan since 2003. I have the worst memory ever, but I remember little eleven year old me listening to In My Place like I had never listened to music before that. When X&Y came out, I acted like Fix You was some kind of lifeline, even though I was like what? Thirteen? And I won't lie, I cried for these songs back when I was eleven and I still cry for them now. Except back then I'd cry because of my ~teenage angst~ and now I cry because these songs are so beautiful and I just love this band so much. As cliche and lame as that all is.
