One year with Coldplay...

Featured Replies

i liked them since 2000 back when i was 10 years old. i would hear "yellow" and "trouble" on the radio but i never knew who they were. it was so frustrating when i didnt know who they were.

then i heard "clocks"and i would get goosebumps i just thought it was the most beautiful song i had ever heard.

so i finally saw the video of "the scientist" and i wrote down the name of the band on my hand. as soon as i could i went and bought A Rush Of Blood to The Head. at first i only liked a few songs :

"clocks"

"in my place"

(when i heard in my place on the cd i realised i had loved that song from the radio too, it was another exciting moment for me.:))

"the scientist"

but i ended up loving the album and i realized i was an idiot for not liking it at first. its still my all time favorite!

For the longest time i had thought A Rush Of Blood to The Head was their first album and that i had just discovered a new amazing band. My older cousin then told me "you know thats not their first album right?" he was the one that helped me figure out that those amazing songs that i loved called "yellow" and "trouble" were also played by this wonderful band.

i think its pretty cool how i came to be a fan because i was a fan of them without knowing who they were.

im 19 years old now and i finally went to their concert after dreaming about it since i was 12. i seriously LOVE this band soooo much.

their music helped me through middle school, high school, and now im in college still listening to coldplay.

Im very happy to say that i grew up with codplay and im very lucky for that. i only wish i could meet them and tell them how much their music has meant to me all these years. of course many other fans would love that oppurtunity too but ill keep dreaming and maybe one day who knows? its crazy how far theyve come. im happy for them.

That does not to seem to be a very long time.... at least it was a very intensive one. Just have to tell you my little story.

I'm kinda celebrating my first anniversary of being a Coldplay fan at the moment. Sadly I don't know the exact date but I know it was at the beginning of August one year back that I realized I had become a fan (sorry for my grammar :\).

That was also a turning point in my life, finally things got better for me - I had a very tough time the months before. Then I started to listen to "Trouble" and everything made sense for me. I also remember listening to the radio while driving home from work and suddenly there was Viva la vida on it and already at the announcement of Coldplay I had such a feeling of happiness...I cannot describe it in words. :D I bought the Parachutes album and I was simply blown away - I've always searched for this kind of music.

Since then I adored Coldplay and I spent the following months discovering all of their songs, background-stories, the forum and so on. I think in September 08 there was a concert of them in Germany and I was so sad that I couldn't come - I couldn't imagine that they will come again just a year later on :D - and now there are only 22 days left until I can finally see the guys :sunny:

For me the whole thing is a bit unbelievable because just 3 or 4 years ago I would laugh about everyone saying "you will visit a Coldplay concert and become a big fan". I know the band since their beginning but I did not like them until one year ago. Sometimes life can be so strange. Maybe I was not mature enough for their music or could not relate to them - I don't know the reason.

Enough about me - how about you? How long have you been a Coldplay fan - immediately or like me so many years later? And how did you become a fan?

I fell in love with Coldplay 4 years ago, in late August :)

I remember I was reading a magazine and I saw this article about a band named 'Coldplay' (of which I had never heard til then :P) and about their new long-awaited album X&Y. So, I decided to listen to some of their songs and the first one I picked was 'Fix You'. I didn't like it at first, but I gave it another go and, guess what - it ended up being my favourite all-time song :D

I've been a fan of Coldplay for a little over a year, when their iTunes/Viva la Vida commercials were on tv. At first, I thought the song was kinda weird, but then I started to really like it. So the day the song was released on iTunes (I think near the end of May last year) I bought it and absolutely LOVED it. I bought VLVODAAHF on iTunes when it came out too.

I didn't listen to their old songs until a few months later. For some reason I just didn't care for their older music, but once I got them I liked them much more than their Viva songs. I was also reading a lot about Coldplay on the internet and quickly became very obsessed. In the past two years, I have loved bands but got tired of them very fast. I've been listening to Coldplay for more than a year, nonstop, and have never become sick of them. I don't think I ever will. :)

Thats a great story!!!! Reminds me of me and my sister! -Gigi

I;m reading your stories and cry!:bigcry: so sentimental..:laugh3:

about me:

I've became huge fan more than 4 years ago (f**k!!! 4 years already!) from X&Y official release in Ukraine. Chronology of my coldplay romans:

1. Clocks (biggest feel ever)

2. Speed Of Sound (sometimes she bored me)

3. X&Y (big contradiction)

4. Swallowed In The Sea (lovely baby all the time all the weather:wink3:)

etc.

Well, for me, I slowly got into it over time.. from back years ago I loved Yellow and then around when X&Y came out I listened to the previews on iTunes and didn't see why everyone thought it was so great, but sometime between then and 2007 I absolutely FELL IN LOVE with all of their music, all at once. X&Y's still my least favorite but there're certain songs from there like Swallowed In the Sea that are some of my favorite songs.

From then on I joined the board, slowly got more and more into it all, collected all the b-sides I could find, downloaded all the videos, followed all the new about VLV. Then Violet Hill came out and I listened to that song around 50 times on repeat nonstop on a drive to see Sara Bareilles in concert. Still not tired of that song to this day. I listened to some of the leaked songs but I made sure not to listen to the album until I could go out and buy the physical copy because I didn't want to ruin the surprise. LOVED it, every bit of it, and I still do. It's right between AROBTTH and Parachutes for me as the best CD. For my birthday the next month my girlfriend drew a picture of her and I together on a swing made of strawberries with the SS lyrics in the background, so that's now "our song" :)

Bought the deluxe edition with Prospekt's March and I LOVE LiTii and Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground.

Then I stayed home from class one day in March so I could get my presale tickets for the Raleigh show yesterday and that had to be the best money I've ever spent. Me and my girlfriend absolutely LOVED the show and are going to go to many more in the future, no question. And I got a million butterflies :D. Getting more and more obsessed by the day, lol. Oh and I saved listening to Leftrightleftrightleft until I got it last night and it's such a great little memory to have from the concert!

My favorite thing about Coldplay is no matter what's going on, how I'm feeling, there's always a song or two of theirs that can just make me feel happy inside. I love it!

Fan since 2002 - that's 7 years! That's just over 1/3 of my life XD

I was younger than and devastated I couldn't get tickets to any of their shows. My friends and I had actually gotten together to buy a group package from MSG - we missed it by one call...

Then I saw Coldplay in my first concert in 2006 at Nassau Coliseum.

I had to pay for my own ticket...I didn't eat lunch for a month and a half XD

And now here I am 5 Coldplay concerts later... =D

".I didn't eat lunch for a month and a half "

hahaha) It was worthy of it!

  • 1 year later...

2003 up to present. :)

so that's 7 years.

It all started with "The Scientist", then "Yellow".

Gena has been a fan for half her life :smug:

She pwns.

I've been an obsessive fan since the end of 2009 rly.

It started with Clocks for me - when I was 12! That song was just magic to my ears.

I think you have to be mature to appreciate fully Coldplay's music. You don't have to be a massive fan of theirs - just appreciate them. Half the music industry are full of immature SOBs. Just look at NME. They write their music reviews in crayons these days.

wow i just realized that i have also been a fan for half my life:shocked2::P

:D its about a year i have been obsessed with them as well! :)

very very fond memories :)

I know ive said I was 11 when I heard Dont Panic/Parachutes CD and fell in love

but........

i went back and found my year book from the year before ....2000 .....3rd grade

I was 9 years old when I found them.

Theyve had a song that seemed MADE for each definitive miracle/catastrophe in my life (and usually its been the latter)

when i needed to draw strength, find hope, or solace

or needed something to illustrate how low, lost or fantastic i feel

i get it from them. ....always.

10 years of that..... i dont think ill ever NOT like them.

but i guess thats what makes them so lovable ....what makes any band lovable really.

Even in fourth grade I recognized they were something special.

When I listen to them I feel..... to quote Perks of Being a Wallflower.....infinate.

I feel bad for anyone who doesnt have a band who does the same.

Ive been a fan since Yellow in 2000. I instantly loved it. Trouble became my absolute favourite from Parachutes. I always bought the albums as soon as they were released....I can still rememeber being so excited when the albums came out and rushing to the music store to buy them. From AROBTTH, Amsterdam is and probably always will be my favourite ever Coldplay song. I cant pinpoint the exact moment I became a 'superfan'.....it's a slow burning love, ha ha....I just adore Coldplay, they are my absolute heroes, and their music is the soundtrack for my life. I cant imagine what it would be like to not have their music to listen to every day. It would suck. Majorly.

My nephew was born to the music of 'Yellow' in the delivery room, and he has been as fanatical about the music as any of us.:)

I intend on my son to enter the world to Strawberry Swing in a few weeks, or sooner.

I have the most famous songs always known, and it always liked. (Yellow, Clocks, In My Place, Trouble, Talk). When I heard Viva La Vida for the first time 2 years ago(OMG), there happened something special, what that is hard to explain. Now i'm obsessed.

Perfectly said!!!! It's been since 2001 for me, and my passion is as strong today as it was back then.

I'm fan for almost 3 years (since VLV was released) but obsessed for 1 year or something.

It's been a very funny, amazing, unforgettable period of my life  and I'm sure it'll get even better if they come Portugal for a big big concert :whip: getting tired of waiting.......

fan since viva, like 2 years aldready :o

Well, I'm embarrassed to say that I had no idea who these guys were until Chris started going out with GP. I guess that means I became aware of them around 2002, but didn't really turned into a fan until I saw Zack Braff's movie, The Last Kiss, which featured Warning Sign! I immediately ran to my local borders and brought both Parachute and AROBTTH, and I've been hooked ever since. Once I started reading on the band, it didn't take long for me to be totally charmed by Chris' wit and intensity, Will's seriousness and thoughtfulness, Jonny's kindness and calming presence, and last but not least Guy's beauty (he's a hard one to pinpoint so I'm sticking to the vanity, lol). Basically, like most everyone else who appreciates these four young men, I like that they seem to be smart, polite and conscientious people. I love their music and combined that with Chris’ voice and the result is pure magic.

fan since when In My Place was released as a single. so that means I've been a fan since 2002 :awesome: :uhoh:

I bought Parachutes when I was eight...or should I say my dad bought it for me. We both listened to it constantly. As each album came out I went out and picked it up; so I've been listening for a long time. That said, I wasn't really a SUPER obsessed fan until right after VLV came out. I get a lot of flak for it (especially the poster I just put up in my dorm room), but it's so worth it. Those guys have gotten me through some of the roughest points in my life thus far. I am eternally grateful.
