Does who someone idolizes affect your opinion of them?

Featured Replies

Does who someone idolizes or looks up to affect your opinion of them?

Example: If someone you liked looks up to Hitler would that cause you to have a negative view of that person? Or if they looked up to someone your adored, would that cause more of a positive view of them? Or does it not matter at all?

this is where my english stops...:bigcry:

I will look something up and hope I can reply then...

edit. ah wait I got it...

so to the question:

hm not really...well I think it depends on who the idol is....if it is Bill from Tokio Hotel for example I can't really take it seriously...and I wouldn't really give a damn....but if it was an important person who has strong influence on certain things then yeah....because it is an attitude towards life for them...

but uhm....now that I wrote that I even think that I would change my opinion of someone who idolizes Bill from Tokio Hotel...

If someone was to idolize someone I don't like I really could care less. People can like who they want. I am sure that they have a good reason to idolize the person they do. If they can come up with a good answer, then I can see them as a good person. Now, if they look up to a person just for the way they look or talk or whatever, then I am going to see them more of as a bad person.

No.

In most cases, anyways... My bestfriend Idolizes Chowder.

It depends. It would certainly affect my opinion of them if they idolised Hitler. It however wouldn't really bother me if they looked up to a singer I don't like.

It depends of course,

if they idolised facist leaders, then opinions would change very quickly.

But if it was a musican, author , actor... Whatever , it wouldn't change much.

Even if they considered just say.. miley cyrus to great at all three >.<

Well, yeah, who a person idolizes indicates what they believe in/respect/like, so it would be stupid to not let information like who they idolize affect your opinion.

Does God count? Would you not be friends with someone because of their religion?

^No, i still would be friends. :D

For me it doesnt matter who other people like and dislike, because why can i judge them, maybe my opinion is the wrong one. Its even more interesting if we have different attitudes, then we have more what to discuss about.

i idolize flapjack

Flapjack :guitarist: rocks

If someone I knew idolized Hitler, I have to admit that I would be slightly freaked out. :stunned:

But no, I don't think I would think them less of a person if they liked someone I don't.

I had to read the thread title 4 times to understand it.

It doesn't affect my general opinion on somebody, but chances are high I wouldn't be very good friends with someone if I don't like who they idolize.

Maybe I'll come back later to this thread if I come up with a better response.

Yes it does, but it depends on who they idolize.

Can't help but assume this was inspired by the Anita Dunn - Mao thread. and yes, it does.
