Once I called the 8 digits of my brother's mobile phone thinking that he was at home in Denmark, but he was in Sweden (which has country code +46), but the system reached him even though I had only dialled his 8-digit mobile number I use in Denmark. The reason should be that the mobile system registers +45 before the number for Danish mobile owners and +46 for Swedish mobile owners etc.

 

Therefore, you have to use +46 (0046) before the other digits stated by AnnaElisabeth to reach her.

So, does that mean Anna has a foreign phone? My mobile can call UK mobiles only, I cannot call internationally.

 

Anyway, I'll post my number in the meet-up group. As I live outside London, I hope people will keep me updated of the plans a little bit in advance if it's at all possible :)

When will your flight leave?

It leaves around 19:00 on Saturday, and after accounting for the time difference I will arrive at Heathrow around 08:00 on Sunday morning. As I mentioned, I will arrive at the hostel before check-in time, so I will probably hang out in one of the lounge areas in the hostel for awhile. I still need to finish reading the Roadie book, so if I haven't yet finished it on the flight then I can continue reading it while I'm waiting. :D

The book is really lovely!

I'm still debating between trying to take the tube or taking a taxi from Heathrow to the hostel (even though I have a tiny map of the tube, it still is my very first time). I know people mentioned a taxi would be more expensive, but about how much more expensive would it actually be?

I don't think anyone who is not (officially) resident in the UK will be entitled to have an NHS medical card, or number.

 

What you need, if you're from an EU country, is a special form (in England we get them from the Post Office) that says that you're legally entitled to full medical assistance (for free, if that is the system) from the country you're travelling to.

I'm bringing clothes for like a bit more than half the trip - I'm planning on doing a lot of shopping and I always end up with an overweight bag, so I'm keeping it light for now. One suitcase and a week-end bag as my carry-on (I tend to buy a lot of books - so I need to have the extra weight somewhere :P) Goodness, I sound like a shopaholic. Sofia and I are arriving at the hostel at about 12.30 pm Carrie! It depends on how fast we get our bags etc.

 

You do need to bring your own shampoo and soap (but I'm just gonna buy that in London and then throw it away when I leave, not very sustainable, I know, but it's easier to do that...)

It took awhile at Heathrow though. I had to wait about 1.5 hours just to get through U.K. border security! :sick: People in the line who have been there before said it has never been that bad.
