Also I did not confirm about the picnic because I was not 100% sure if I could make it as I had to push appointments around and did not want to stand people up by confriming I was attending and then not turning up . so even if I had access I would not have given a concrete answer. iThat is all irrelevant anyway .

I find that many memorable events like that happen spontaneously, like the time I met Chris as he emerged from the Travis gig.;)

That came about indirectly through a meet-up (for the concert) with a couple of Coldplayers too, so maybe there's something in it.:lol:

Perhaps it's the collective positive energy that is exuded whenever Coldplayers come together.:rolleyes:

Yes, that was a great experience apart from the banging doors and the male lead singer of that band who sounded like Janis Joplin!:P

 

 

1 - The f*cking heat, 32C it damn hot for the UK, and even hotter in the underground :P

2 - Missing the connecting train coming back by less than a minute (got to the ticket barrier just as the train was pulling away from the station)

I have no idea why there appears to have been such a huge communications break-down re: the picnic today, but I think everyone had a great time even so.

For me, it was actually the best day of the year so far. I enjoyed pretty much every minute of it, except maybe for the brief time we stood in the blazing heat while some of the group searched from some toilets!;)

Fortunately the overall time spent in direct sunlight during the entire day was minimal, so the heat didn't really become an issue, thankfully.

After meeting at Belsize Park tube station, Dave, Bea and I met one half of the group (including the French contingent) in the vicinity of The Bakery and The Beehive.

After a fairly lengthy photo session (photos to come later), the group walked up to Hampstead Heath, which is very close by indeed.

There we found a good spot in the (much-needed) shade of a large tree at the top of the hill, and had our picnic and took some photos while waiting for the others to arrive.

When, after a couple of hours, it became clear that nobody else was coming, we decamped and took a slow walk back to Belsize Park station.

Nadia then called it a day, and the rest of us then headed off to the Dublin Castle via the Northern Line.

After very pleasant drink and chat (accompanied by Coldplay songs on the jukebox, of course), David and Bea headed for home while the remaining five of us had a very enjoyable meal in a tapas bar just a short distance along the road from the pub.

I thought the food and service in the bar (called Jamon Jamon) were excellent, and I can definitely recommend it to any Coldplayers who visit Camden.:D

Finally came the highlight of the day for me when we stumbled across a bar where there was free live music.

The band was pretty good, but even better was to come when we bumped into a friend of Chris!

He spotted my "butterfly" T-shirt and asked us how we had come to be there, and after I explained how it had come about, he revealed how he knew Chris through one of Chris's best friends from uni (the one who had inspired "The Scientist") and had actually been at Wembley as a VIP guest of Chris's.

I'm not going to divulge the guy's name for obvious reasons, but we know he was legit as he showed us his VIP/backstage pass and the official tour butterfly "medallion" he had received.

He then said he would mention to Chris that he had bumped into us, and he seemed very genuine, so I'm confident he will do so.

He also told us how he was used to getting "stick" for being a Coldplay fan. I think we can all empathise with that!:P

 

Anyway, as I said, everyone in "our" group had a fantastic day, and I hope the other group did too, however they ended up spending the day.

I hope there'll be other meet-ups as enjoyable as this in the future.

 

I parted company with the others at the tube station and they headed back to their hotel while I began my train journey "home" in the opposite direction, listening to X&Y on the way.

I'm sorry for any possible further ungraciousness in this comment, but you know that Hampstead Heath is huge, right?

You can't just blame us for not finding you in Hampstead Heath (especially since we didn't know that you were coming or who to look for), you know, because of its hugeness.

 

In my opinion, all of us were quite obvious - we flew a butterfly kite, listened to Parachutes and wore Coldplay accessories. I don't think a group of Coldplayers could be any more obvious than that, except for a big flashy sign saying "COLDPLAYING MEET-UP 2010".

Besides, we didn't know that there were other people coming, so why look for people that we don't know are coming?

 

You say you weren't 100% sure if you were coming or not. I think the best thing for you to have done here is to say that you MIGHT come, and then text if things would turn out differently. In most cases, silence means no, and you've been silent. I'm sorry, but you can't blame us for you being silent. This meet-up has been planned for months and you're not even a member of the group.

 

Your lack of Internet access is more relevant than ever right now. Anna's number was fully shown in the thread, so you can't say that there was no way to contact the organiser, with or without mobile access.

 

I am a bit pissed at you right now, but however I'm happy that you eventually found people to hang out with. This problem will of course try to be avoided in the future.

There were initially 11 in our group, although three left after a relatively short time.

There were only five of us by the time we met Chris's friend. I don't know how many there were in the other group in the end.

We were eight people in the park but were joined by Katja and her daughter Anna in the evening! :) Unfortunately Pete couldn't join us - but we're quite a few people.

 

We had to say a very sad goodbye to Vera and her brother Peter a few hours ago :bigcry: We love you guys - have a safe journey and a wonderful day! :heart: See you soon! :kiss::hug:

Time is almost running out. 20 minutes 1 Pound at the hotel where I am staying.

 

I had a nice picnic day, but I was sorry that we did not meet the other coldplayers there. And I was also very sorry that Pete could not be there.

 

EDIT> Now I am at the hostel with free Internet access /provided that the computers are vacant. They rarely are.

 

 

I have so been looking forward to this meet/up, but I have been negatively affected by red trash on both thighs. The trash makes it troublesome to walk, so I have been a frequent visitor to the pharmacy and I have had to take it easy some days. And I had to go to the hospital / and Raphaele was so sweet to go with me / THANKS RAPHAELE / it was very nice with your company.

 

The picnic day was to be the highlight of the meet/up, but unfortunately everything did not go as it should. Below is my account of the PICNIC day>

 

 

Picnic day> All of us went to the Bakery, and I had to fetch some medication at the pharmacy at the Free Royal Hospital nearby. Raphaele was so nice to go with me there. Then we went back to the bakery. The French people were waiting there on the bench opposite to it. They were waiting for Mark who would take them to the picnic. I told them that I would go to the hostel to put on the new lotion, and I also had some things stored there in the refrigerator for the picnic. I took the bus to the hostel. Before leaving the hostel I received a message from Raph asking where we were / and the name of the meeting place. Anna told me and I sent the message to Raphaele. Then I went with the hostel group to Hampstead Heath. It was very, very hot so I had trouble walking having sour, red feet. After arriving at the tube station we had quite of bit walking after arriving at Hampstead Heath. We walked for what felt more than forever and eventually sat down in a nice, shadowy place where we drank more than a glass of water and had something to eat *I had bought some fruit slices and sandwiches. We shared candies from the individual countries. Then we got up and walked to flash & fly Natascha\s huge and colourful butterfly kite for quite a long time. We listened to PARACHUTES and wrote to the guys.

 

From our camp under a shadowy tree there was a nice view of London. We saw a fellow running in the distance. Carrie zoomed in on him on the camera. The fellow COULD BE Chris, but we are not sure. Natascha ran to have a closer look at this running guy / that girl can really run fast!!!

 

After 8pm we left the place and walked around the neighbourhood. We looked at the restaurants and studied the menu and prices. At one restaurant we spotted .... MILLER! We did not want to disturb him as he was not alone, but his picture was surely taken.

 

We were joined by Katja and her daughter Anna and had a nice dinner at a restaurant named ASK. After this nice dinner we said goodbye to Katja and her daughter Anna and walked back.

 

Today the coldplayers staying at the hostel went to the flea markets, but knowing that it would involve a lot of walking, I prefer to be good to my feet and take it easy.

 

Later we will meet here at the hostel to watch the World Cup finals together and root for the Dutch team. Yesterday I read that the Octopus had predicted a Spanish victory. So we will see if rooting for the Netherlands can outweigh the Octopus\ verdict.
