Sometimes, for my glamorous job as a clinical microbiologist, I have to listen to old people poop in a bucket so that the nurse can collect a stool sample so that I can test it for presence of clostridium difficile When I'm standing there, listening to the person shit, it's a cavalcade of rough, wet farts, hard, tumbling chunks and splashing wet diarrhea. It's disgusting. But then I think... ...I could be listening to The Second Law right now. And that disgust fades into an enigmatic corner of my mind. And I feel cleansed.
