Featured Replies

Hello! Im doing a science fair project on how music provokes emotions. i set up a website with a simple survey. if you would like to help me with my project and take the survey than go to http://musicalemotions.co.cc/ thank you!!!

i'd love to know exactly why a sound can evoke an emotion

I've done your test! Good luck with your project. :)

thanks everyone who has done it so far! ill be sure to post the results when its done.

I've taken the survey/experiment/test thing. Did you compose/play those tracks yourself? They're nice :)

This is a brilliant project. A great idea, combined with a use of your talent at piano and songwriting, and a great, user-friendly test site. Well done.

Thank you everyone, I love this forum everyone is so nice here :) all the other forums i posted this on all i got is complaints and people telling how i should have set up the test...

Believe me i took time setting this up, i know how it is supposed to work, and i only put three choices for a reason.

Thank you everyone for helping me and not directing me! :)

Long live COLDPLAY, my favorite band EVER!!!

I've taken the test :D I'd be interested to know the results when you're done!!

Lot of work for a science fair project!

You wrote the songs, too? Pretty impressive. However, I think you won't get many votes from other regions of the world... it's just too obscure, plus obviously it's just in English.

True its the only language i know :( if someone wants to translate it i wouldn't mind. But surprisingly i have gotten people from over ten countries take the test, including countries like Egypt and India. So im getting some good data. Thank goodness a lot of people know English.

Oh really, I wasn't sure you'd be able to tell, but that's good.

Another thing is that Western-style culture and music is so pervasive it would be hard to tell these things just from an internet survey, it's like there are only a couple isolated tribes left and you can't just knock on their huts and go "hey does this thing I wrote suggest suspense to you" or anything, the rest of the world is used to Western music :/

I'm not saying it's bad or anything, I still quite like it, it's a nice website with good compositions in it too.

I know what you mean, but at least India's music is way different than western music. Any way, like i said, im getting good data, for example the suspenseful songs are getting much more consistent data than that sad or happy songs. That's not very surprising though, but still good.

i only need 5 more people to take the test! thanks everyone!

Only just realised about this right now, but seeing as it sounds like an interesting project let us know how it goes? Thanks :)

Yeah, I noticed that, people tend to have different opinions on what kind of music makes them sad or happy, for me a lot of times mellow music can make me feel very happy and everyone else thinks it's a total downer to listen to -- it's really interesting. :nice:
