.....and your pick might have been........?

I think its a pretty decent list. Interpol made the cut at 112, Jeff Buckley at 84 I think or in the 80s somewhere... Radiohead The Bends and OK Computer made the cut.... RUN-DMC! Public Enemy! Prince!!!

hell of a lot better than Oasis thats for sure...:P

Achtung Baby - DEAD RIGHT! What an album. Forget all that Joshua Tree - that's complete and utter bollocks compared to Achtung. Never has a band so radically changed it's sound from one album to the next. Gone was the scruffy, alternative rockers and in place came a band who looked like they had just walked the clouds of Rock heaven! It's an amazing album and certainly deserves number 1. It was a band at their peak and when U2 reach the peak - there is no one better. Simple as.

Also The Queen Is Dead at number 3 - totally deserved for The Smiths especially finishing two places ahead of their pale imitators Radiohead.

A fair bit of that list is utter bullshit,Kanye West?, come on really?, lets sample an older song and talk shit over it for 3 minutes, and act like an utter c.unt offstage too, yeah complete greatness there.

U2 number one?, Boner in his stupid sunglasses bleating on about saving the children there's as many people who can't stand them as love them and The Edge is a boring and dull guitarist, they've not made 1 album I like.

Fugazi at number 60?, they should be much higher.

The same for The White Stripes.

Haven't we realised that these lists are simply meaningless filler for magazines?

I couldn't care less what's on the list. At least if there was some sort of category, like genre, or decade, then it could be narrowed down a bit, but just looking for the top 125 albums ever full stop is ridiculous. You never see these lists for films generally, because it's just too hard, but you do see top 100 comedy films.

Whenever you see lists like this, you have to look for what you feel "they" got right instead of wrong. The top 5 albums are pretty consistent with many lists I have seen over the years. Also, most (not all) of the albums I would expect to be on this list are at some point. Granted, I disagree with a lot of the order, which is often the case.

Thats unfortunate, I feel you are really missing out. I dont think Achtung should've been No 1 but its definitely up there.

would of liked to of seen at least some pearl jam and rhcp's BSSM near the pointy end of the list but still they've covered most of the best stuff and alot of stuff i havent heard before.

and there seems to be alot of anger at the emission of Kid A and Arctic Monkeys debut and rightfully so. and i couldnt find their 2009 album of their Merriweather Post Pavilion anywhere?

one of the comments on the page put it very well in saying that there seems to be some sort of generational cringe when it comes to these albums lists, almost as if it is uncool to highly rate albums from the last few years.

has anyone done their Readers Poll? achtung baby is coming first in the album poll and briggins, you would be pleased to know that i voted for Emily Haines in the Hottest Sex Goddess category but unfortunately that wasnt enough to get her in the top 5. but gwen stefani is winning that so its not all bad.

^ I agree with Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Pearl Jam's Ten, Vs., and Vitalogy were brilliant albums in the 90s, and RHCP's back to back albums, Californication and By The Way, were fantastic (and you could throw BSSM in the mix, too).

For most albums, I think you need to allow 5-10 years of reflection in order to see how it stands up against the test of time. When you think about great albums, you think about their timelessness and influence on the future musical landscape, and both are almost impossible to access when a band has released only one or two albums. As a side note, I think it's easier evaluate the quality of new albums by established acts because you can compare the new album to a band's entire catalogue in order to see how it stacks up.

You're a Coldplay fan right? You could say exactly the same about them.

I agree with that though. Fugazi rule

How can anyone be surprised that Achtung Baby is #1? It was both a critical and commercial success by the biggest band over the last 25 years. Like "Nevermind" and "Ok Computer," it's toward the top of almost any credible list discussing the best albums of the 90's. This shouldn't come as a surprise.
