I can't stop listening to this album. :freak:

I know that's random, but I really can't.

Welcome to the club!

Since the gig I can't stop listening to it and weeping gently...Which is weird for me since usually I'm not a cry baby..but here, with every listen, memories from the gig keep rushing back and I get emotionnal. It started in the eurostar where, like Chris would have sing 'tears stream down your face..', I couldn't help it. I received a text from Virginie who was in an Eurostar before mine and was in the same state XD Again this morning, I became all teary while listening to I'll carry you in the bus....

My sister and bro in law came dine with yesterday and we listened to the album, they loved it *w* First reaction of my big sis when she saw the gig's pics 'ohhh...that Gary dude is really cute!'.... :D

btw: has anyone manage to decipher the lyrics of the new songs?? I have a hard time doing so...:/

@V: any news of a bootleg??

I know whatcha mean, the lyrics are so gorgeous, I always tear up when listening to this album.

I wish I could've gone to that gig. Who knows? Maybe they'll tour the US.

I haven't been able to decipher the new songs that much. The audio quality isn't good enough.

we're becoming a bunch of seriouly addicted people! :p

The journey back in the eurostar was ... I listened to the album and it all came rushing back to me, the man next to me must have wondered what was the matter.. I had only slept three hours so my eyes were already red from slepp depravation, and the rest didn't help! "Get On The Road" still brings tears to my eyes, this song is too much for me (and Lisa's version was breathtaking)

@V: any news of a bootleg??

No, not yet unfortunately!... And I'm also waiting for an update on the TP or SP websites, or even some words there from G himself. I'd love to have their impressions (even though we already have apretty good idea of it ^^)

we're becoming a bunch of seriouly addicted people! :p

It's not just us... Every review I red on the album or people that went to the gig said the same thing: mindblowing. So we're not blinded by our 'SP/Lightbody' fandomness  This album is OBJECTIVELY awesome :awesome:

@Christina: ok for the lyrics, so that's not just my french ear that can't sort it out

, yeah, it's the audio.

During the gig I was more attentiv but I was so in :bomb:  :awesome: mode that I don't remember exactly the lyrics...

Yeah, I'm sure it was much easier to understand at the gig. But I don't expect you to remember all the lyrics. I wouldn't. I'd be too excited about every song. :P

:D, Music can do that to you.

and that's the best addiction

I've also read only positive things on the album, and given our reaction to the songs live, I'm sure they would have a lot of success if they were to do a small tour (or at least a few more dates)! I really hope that this first show will make them consider it!

For now, I'm praying for a bootleg!

@Aurélie: apparently, we must have walked past Troy when we went back in front of the HMV after meeting G, cause the French woman saw him. I wasn't paying attention though, all I saw was G driving past us in his cab

I agree, didn't smell it but his eyes betrayed it :p (nothing too serious though)

It's convenient that people there seem to start queueing rather late (as Aurelie pointed out to me) cause we have time (as you did) to enjoy the city instead of going right away to the venue ^^

I think everyone would love to be at the receiving end! :disappointed: But it's true, when you take a pic with him, he really gets close to you, so that kind of make it up for it *w* I can still hear the "awww" reaction to his "I can get wet with you guys" XD

So embarassing... kind of felt ashamed myself (no Gary, all the french girls/woman aren't like that, you've just met the exception to the rule!...) Really no need to complain to him for all the waiting! He didn't have to come out in the first place, and no one forced her to wait... She really pissed me off!

Anyway, I wish I'd known how you look like, I would have said hi! ;)

haha...ah, so i wasn't imagining his drink level at the time then. :P

well, i think the queueing situation wasn't so bad in the end since the show didn't seem to be sold out (despite earlier advertising claims) cos it seemed to me you could still buy tickets on the spot. which is probably a good thing also since it was raining on & off through the day & i wouldn't want to be queueing in the rain!

+ i just realised the irony of it, but i actually went wandering around in the Camden Horse Stables Market on the day of the Tired Pony gig... :dozey:

& yes, i can still hear the collective "awww" reaction to his statement... :wacky:

PR talk or not, that got me hook, line & sinker! daym you, Gary! how the hell am i going to find a guy who matches up to you now??? :P

i'd have said hi to you girls too, if i'd known who to look out for! :)

the other Asian girl was actually in the queue right behind me with her friend & i was initially wondering if that might've been you & a-chan.

Yes, she made me disown my roots that night  (I think one of the worst moment was when she shouted out his name )

oh dear! that bad! :stunned:

oh yes, the drunken lady! She was so wasted, trying to convince another girl to follow her! I remember when she disappeared behind the wall into the parking lot, someone (from security I guess) called after her, and she was escorted back

was the drunken lady the one who claimed very loudly that the girl with her is Gary's sister? i gave them a "yeah, right...what the hell you doing out here then?" look & the girl she claimed to be Gary's sister was looking very embarrassed... :P

It' nice to reading all these reviews and i LOVE this album so much ! :D

ying! welcome to CPing.com! :D

make sure to drop in & say "hi" in the SP thread too, if you haven't already!

PR talk or not, that got me hook, line & sinker! daym you, Gary! how the hell am i going to find a guy who matches up to you now??? :P

+1000000000000000

To recognize me, that's simple, I'm really small!! So if you mistook somebody for a kid while we were waiting for Gary, that must have been me

haha...ah, so i wasn't imagining his drink level at the time then. :P

nope! but I guess he wasn't really "drunk", but rather even more tired with the effect of the beer :p

maybe, i can't remember that particular moment, but that could sound like her! The girl with her was blond. I don't think they stayed til the end, I think not (?)

Silly you! But I guess we managed to stay quiet and unnoticed in our little corner, contrary to others! that was fine by me :p)

nope! but I guess he wasn't really "drunk", but rather even more tired with the effect of the beer :p

yeah, i was thinking he's probably in that kinda sleepy state that a couple of pints of beer puts you in... :dozey:

when you've figured it out, please let me know

i'm afraid i may never be able to figure out how...he sets quite a high benchmark! :P :laugh3:

yes, indeed! :D

yeah, i vaguely remember the "Gary's sister" was a blond girl. & i can imagine that if the drunk lady had also stayed til the end, Gary'd probably freak out completely between the embarrassing rants of the French woman & whatever craziness the drunk lady might've come up with!

*lol* you must look very young too then! :D

(sorry, i can't really remember if anyone stood out to me as being very kid-like)

(sorry, i can't really remember if anyone stood out to me as being very kid-like)

No, I think I look my age that's just the height that is kid like  For the pic, Gary put his head on mine (I think to minimize the 2 heads of height difference ) so his cheak was leaning on the top of my hair...I remember thinking 'gosh, his head is heavy' :laugh3: but that was cute, I'm not complaining! :P

Oh dear, that would have been something!... :p (too bad nobody filmed when he was out btw!)

(sorry, i can't really remember if anyone stood out to me as being very kid-like)

(at one point we went on the opposite pavement and sat down, but it was even colder down there so we went back towards the door)

I remember my mind went totally blank for the pic! :p I was trying to focus and enjoy it, I was so cold, I almost snuggled up :p

@A: btw, I'm curious to know who took a pic of us (all the people waiting) from the upper window, very early in the night, just before PB's first appearance.

(at one point we went on the opposite pavement and sat down, but it was even colder down there so we went back towards the door)

I think we tried every spot available

@A: btw, I'm curious to know who took a pic of us (all the people waiting) from the upper window, very early in the night, just before PB's first appearance.

I remember waving at the mysterious photographer, but from what I recall, his hair looked like Iain Archer's... or maybe it was just a roadie?

I think we tried every spot available

we definitely did! the best one being the small shelter in front of the door (G's voice on the other side! ^^)

I remember waving at the mysterious photographer, but from what I recall, his hair looked like Iain Archer's... or maybe it was just a roadie?

he didn't look very tall, it may be him... whoever he was, he's gonna have two smiling girls waving back on his shot :p

I remember when I first saw the promotion video of TP I got so excited about the album and I remember thinking "in the middle of july? dammit, that's a long time to wait" and when the album finnaly got out I was like, ok, I'll download it tomorrow. And then tomorrow and tomorrow.

I only downloaded it few days ago and I feel so bad about it because it's such a great album and I cant stop listening to it now. Northwestern skies is love.

Cool after show ITV!!! (G had his after show shirt :p)

Some people aren’t good at taking time off – Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and REM’s Peter Buck are two of those people.

The northern Irish rockers have barely taken a breath since their 2003 album Final Straw transformed them into one of the UK’s biggest selling acts.

REM, despite making albums for nearly 30 years and now taking things at a slower pace, also like to keep busy.

Either way, faced with an invitation to take six months off, book a trip to a Greek island and recharge their batteries, Gary Lightbody and Peter Buck started a new band.

Introduced via mutual friend and producer Jacknife Lee, they came together to record at the start of 2010 in Portland.

“I didn’t know if it was going to be a demo or a solo record or whatever,” says Buck, reclining at a posh London hotel, after Lightbody extended the invitation.

“Within an hour it was a band – it felt like a band,” he adds.

“I respect the guy, I really like his work.”

Mutual ‘respect’

The result of the studio mess about wasn’t just a new band, but an alt-American folk album, called The Place We Ran From. They also played their first UK gig in London last week.

In front of 3,000 people and joined on stage by a host of musicians – REM’s auxiliary member Scott McCaughey and Belle & Sebastian’s Richard Colburn. At one point the technical equipment failed.

Lightbody and Buck were left to sing without amplification in the middle of a hushed auditorium.

“It was pretty loose, very emotional and powerful,” says Buck the following afternoon. “I got what I wanted out of it”.

“It kept everyone on their toes. I don’t want it to be perfect or rehearsed. My job is to make sure everyone screws it up a little bit – in a good way.”

During the recording of the album they were joined a host of guests , including actress-turned-singer Zooey Deschanel, folkster M.Ward and Editors’ singer Tom Smith.

“It’s just one of the finest vocal performances I’ve ever heard,” says Lightbody of the latter.

“It’s time-stopping. I defy people to not stop what they’re doing, whatever it is, washing the dog, doing the dishes, chopping carrots – it’ll all stop when that song comes on.”

New albums

This new partnership isn’t purely a one-off either. Buck confirms that they’ll reconvene next January to do the whole thing again and record a second album.

“My guys don’t work as much as I want to work,” reasons Buck.

“Snow Patrol keeps me on my toes,” adds Lightbody. “It was only that we were taking six months off this year. I didn’t want to take any time off.

“That’s why I thought it was the perfect time to make another record with a bunch of other people. It keeps life interesting.

“I’ve been listening to REM records for a long time. Everyone had the same emotional investment.”

However, in between all this there are new albums from both of their “family” bands REM and Snow Patrol.

The Americans have been working in Berlin on the follow-up to 2008′s Accelerate.

“We’ve got to mix it and Michael (Stipe) has two things to sing,” says Buck.

“We’re almost there. It’s a record I’m really excited about. Covering a lot of ground emotionally and musically. I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

And Snow Patrol?

“We’re going to make the album in November and it’s going to be out next year,” confirms Lightbody, laughing. “Probably competing with REM’s album.”

I love what Pete said "My job is to make sure everyone screws it up a little bit - in a good way." He was pretty discrete during the gig but there was a lot of moments were you could sense he was dicting the pace of the songs and get everybody on the same vibe...Very subtle but pretty impressive!

Love Gary's comment too on Tom Smith perf of the Good Book, which is my fav track of the album...his voice is so purely raw and powerful in that one.....T.T Time-stopping, I aggre with Gary!

And new recording session for next january  They already said they would chose a different american city, I just hope they'll make a more rockier album with more tracks like the new ones we heard at the show (Silver atoms, your bible :awesome: ) Hope they'll put I'll carry you, I can't stop listening to it, it's just too beautiful!!

A second album in January!!

Gah, Gary's such a busy man. Recording with SP in October, recording with TP in January, new album and most definitley a tour for SP in 2011. I don't think he rests. :P

I really need to get the first one

Thanks for the link!

I agree with what you said about Peter Buck! :) and you could see that there was a great complicity between Gary and him! And Peter was very attentive to the crowd, he looked and smiled at us a lot! ^^

I really can't wait for the second album, with rockier songs as Aurelie said! ^^

You won't regret it ;)

haha...well, i'm not that tall either. & Gary towers over me!

& yes, i wouldn't complain if i had his head resting on mine either... ;)

Oh dear, that would have been something!... :p (too bad nobody filmed when he was out btw!)

(at one point we went on the opposite pavement and sat down, but it was even colder down there so we went back towards the door)

yeah...then we could have a video of him saying he'll get wet in the rain with us too! :D oh, wells...

it did get pretty cold that night (considering the heatwave in London so far before that day!) & i think most of us were feeling the cold what with the strong wind & on/off rain [sP pun intended]. i seem to have a tendency of seeing Gary when it's cold out...it was winter when i last saw him. :P

yeah, i guess Peter's the one with the most experience & all via REM. he really had the whole "elder statesman" vibe going playing away on his guitar & subtly striking some classic rock guitarist moves in his corner. & that moment when Gary admitted Peter had (also subtly) passed by from behind to remind him to play the A chord instead of G! haha

any guesses as to which American city they'll go to next? seems that the criteria is somewhere with a musical vibe & has a thriving music community/scene...i'm guessing possibly Nashville (in keeping with the whole "country-tinged music" thing), but i am also kinda hoping for Seattle...home of grunge - Nirvana, Pearl Jam...if they are going to go with a rockier tone for the 2nd album...

 Someone while we were waiting, someone called for a 'warmer climate' :laugh3: (snow patrol fans can make this go on forever I think...)

+1 Nashville would be cool or maybe New Orleans?!! I guess we'll have to wait & see! Don't know the schedule of REM or Belle & Sebastian but i pray they could find a week (since that's they all just need XD) to record in january!
