Where is my mixtape, boss?:wtf:

Track 4: From the vocals I can tell that this is a song by Bat for Lashes. Her voice is very distinct. I don't think I have heard this song before (I haven't listened to her new album). I really like how the song picks up and instruments get added in as it progresses. The mood of the song is animated with the drums giving the impression of walking but to me seems somewhat dark and the kind of song I think would be perfect for a late night drive.

it ought to be Glass by Bat For Lashes:rolleyes:

I haven't got a mixtape either! :bigcry:

Haven't got mine yet. Oh well, I'm used to this bad luck

he did say he was sending them off at different times and that he'd be sending more soon

so i wouldn't start worrying yet

I'm not worried.

I'm not getting one anyways. :P

I'm worried!

I HAVEN'T GOT ONE EITHER

:whip: Why didn't you join? :bigcry:

I could possibly make a mosquito symphony for you.. you know, a song a hundred miles long:rolleyes2:

I could possibly make a mosquito symphony for you.. you know, a song a hundred miles long:rolleyes2:

Ha ha very good :P

Awright, writing this during my second listen-through.

Track 1: Pretty good, an interesting way to start it off. Kind of a summery song. Decent, I liked it on both listens.

Track 2: Not really my thing, I can't place why, it just isn't doing much for me. I suppose I might like it more on further listens but I don't tend to think so. Fortunately it's short!

Track 3: Tori Amos, right? A lot of my friends love her. I like some of her songs, but I've never really gotten into her. I might like this song more on further listens but it's a bit blah for me right now. I did like it better on the second listen than the first.

Track 4: Singer sounds familiar but I can't place who he is. Again, not really my thing. :blank: Also, it's like almost 6 minutes long which is too much for this song, I think.

Track 5: Jeff Buckley!! :cheesy: Grace. I approve. Very good song. Not much else to say, just a good song.

Track 6: R.E.M., amirite? Not big into R.E.M. This song is okay.

Track 7: Sounds mostly like the ones preceding it, and like most of the ones preceding it, I'm pretty blah about this one. Not really bad, just they aren't my thing.

Track 8: Really like this one. Also it's good because this mixtape was getting kinda same-y, but this sounds a lot different. Good song, really catchy, but in a good way. Really interested to see the artist for this.

Track 9: Didn't really like this very much on first listen but it's better now, I like this one too.

Track 10: Can't decide whether I like the singer's voice or not... unsure about whether I like this track or not.

Track 11: TALK SHOW HOST OMG OMG OMG  LOVE YOU I love this song. :nice:

Track 12: This one is okay. Again, I like it a bit better on second listen than first. I can see myself liking it better after a while but again, not sure.

Track 13: Repetitive. And long. x_x Sorry, just too long for me. I don't mind long tracks but there wasn't enough going on in this one.

Track 14: U2. :blank:

Track 15: Again, singer rings bells, but can't identify him. This track is kinda blah too, soz.

Track 16: I like this one. :nice: Good way to end a mixtape. I like the little male/female singer duality thing going on.

Thanks, mystery person. :)

Bea's review of her Mixtape:

Review of mixtape

Track 1

Sounds electronic and pop-like. Can’t get who is from, there’s some back chant.

Seems the melody of a game or so.

Track 2

Travis - Selfish Jean with no doubt.

Give it much rhythm.

Track 3

Probably it is Keane can’t guess the song, surely from previous album which i’ve checked less.

It have radio part saying it is keane.

Track 4

Good piano open, and guitar and drums adding. Voice sound like a synth band to me. I would say it is OMD, thought i’m not sure, it if is is a good surprise.

Track 5

Sound good, no clue at all who they are, not even a style or genre where to classify them on. Could be Franz Ferdinand? But i don’t feel that’s Mr Kapranos voice.

Track 6

I like the piano part here, don’t know who sing it, cause i would say the song is familiar, for the lyrics but can’t guess it. Sounds like an old song like of the 70s or 80s. “Don’t stop believing” On second thought could it be Glee music? (never watched the show, but that song was played on a Spanish promo of it)

Track 7

Yay another oldie one. I bet is a new version of it. Definitelly it is a synth pop band that keep going. Voice sounds familiar but can’t spot sure who they are. Journey could be?

Track 8

Synth pop. No familiar song, lyrics or voice.

Track 9

Led Zeppelin – Four Sticks, with no doubt, -well thought it might be misty mountain hop-.

Glad to find it here, one of my fave tracks by them along with the Mr Bonham solos.

Track 10

I like the entrance and rythm it have, but don’t know about band or song.

Sounds like a recent song.

Track 11

Remind me of a similar style Spanish band, so i’ll bet is bloc party, don’t know the song title.

Track 12

No idea who sings and about the song but i like the downtempoish of it.

Track 13

Man singing falsetto or female –like the Dublin castle band of Saturday night- style seems folk acoustic. Could it be Beirut?

Track 14

I like the guitar ‘canon’. Seems folk acoustic aswell, no idea who it can be. Could it be jack Johnson, Joshua radin or some similar artist. I like how the drum and electric guitar grow and appear.

Track 15

Sounds familiar, but i have no clue.

I like the voice, lyrics and melody.

I don't know who my sender is, is pretty much enjoyed it, good mix with male voices and lot of synth style, i'd give it a 8/10 :)

I hope my receiver likes mine. :anxious:

Pretty much if you haven't yet received a tape it means I haven't received the tape. I'm giving it til the end of the week for the non-submitters (10 at the moment) to submit before wheeling out the spare mixtapes (hint hint, if you want to make a spare mixtape and submit it, it would be good ;))

how many more spare/extra mixtapes do you need?

I've already sent in one,but I could make another one

I might have time tomorrow or the day after to make a spare one. :nice:

Thanks for the person making my mixtape! Listened to it once now, and there are some awesome songs! Will review them all tomorrow :)

at the moment 10 spares are needed, but it could reduce when the original senders submit

Just listened to mine :) Will make a review after a few more listens :D

BTW, can I already post my tracklisting because my mixtape has already been reviewed?

Just listened to my mixtape and I AM BLOWN AWAY. There's not ONE song I hated! Some liked less than the others but I NEED to know who made it because whoever she or he may be... I love them and they have an exquisite music taste! :D :D

Here's my review:

Track 1)

What a reassuring way to start the mixtape with Radiohead! I recognize that voice. Even though I haven’t heard this Radiohead song, it’s right up my alley. “Just cause you feel it, doesn’t mean it’s there!” Beautiful lyrics, solid rhythm and a very ethereal song: especially the guitar riffs in the second half! It’s very eerie, borderline frightening; but in the good way. :)

Track 2)

Is it possible to fall in love with the person who made the mixtape? I know this song and I’m waiting RESTLESSLY for the album to come out! Arcade Fire – The Suburbs: an incredible song albeit, it is more “mainstream” than the earlier Arcade Fire stuff. LOVE it!

Track 3)

Rock & Roll!!! The beginning is deceiving because it makes you think it’s a slow, mellow song but it then explodes as the drums kick! Not a fan of the melody and it’s a little too chaotic for my taste so I’d rate it as 5/10. But for those who love drowning their thoughts in music and screaming their hearts out to a song: this is it!

Track 4)

This is like a fusion of AIR’s Mer Du Japon & The Flaming Lips. I like it, because even though it’s Pop Rock, it is very mellow and has a nice melody. 8/10

Track 5)

Hoppipola by Sigur Ros! Ah! I LOVE this song! :wacky: (And it has an amazing video in my opinion). This is not a song as much as it is a symphony. I’m a sucker for violins; add in Jonsi’s falsetto, you get magic! The emotion in this dreamlike enchantment is unsurpassed. Exquisite!

Track 6)

Radiohead again. I was captivated from the first note! Very very beautiful and really goes well with Sigur Ros as it flows in the same atmosphere of high register. Slightly reminds me of the early days of Keane and Travis. 9/10

Track 7)

Paolo Nutini? The voice is very beautiful and the accent is enthralling. Starts very mellow, in the realms of Jack Johnson and Radiohead’s Reckoner, then picks up after a while but remains in tranquil ground. The whistling adds the cherry on top and this soon will become my summer tune!

Track 8)

Okay, whoever made this mixtape is extremely mature musically! This song has kept me guessing as who is singing and where I’ve heard it. It really is a gem! Very “floaty” and the lyrics are so mysterious and moving. I was sedated by this song and had to put it on repeat. So dreamy and the pipe organ sound adds peace to it all.

Track 9)

This song really jutted out like a sore thumb. The previous five songs are so had me in a dreamy state of intoxication but this brought me down. The melody, lyrics, voice and piano piece are very saddening. I’d say this song is great for those gloomy days and really captures the essence of sorrow. A slightly cliché song for one of those Grey’s Anatomy or One Tree Hill episodes.

Track 10)

THIS HAS TO BE MY FAVOURITE SONG ON THERE!!!!! No lyrics, no words just pure music. Close your eyes to this song and it’s like walking on the moon with low gravity or diving underwater with sea turtles. I have NO IDEA how this person got away with putting this song on the mixtape because the rhythm, beat, drums and tune are so sexual. SO SEXUAL! Any lovers of the “Lounge” genre would worship this; and again, the violins held me at gunpoint. Absolute ecstasy!

Track 11)

Gimme Sympathy – Metric! HELL YEAH! A really good alternative song to rock out to! The song got me through the hardest times in my life because I’d just blast it and dance all my problems away. “Who’d you rather be, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones?” I LOVE IT!

Track 12)

No Cars Go – Arcade Fire. Again, is this person psychic?! He/she/it knows what I love! An amazing drum beat to this song, exquisite violins and horns! I recently went to an impromptu Arcade Fire concert and they played this as soon as I got there. Really got everyone moving! An essential sing-along on any iPod!

Track 13)

Starts similar to the previous track, running in the same lines, but intriguingly different. The psychedelic mushrooms of MGMT immediately start growing in your mind. Stereotypical psychedelica but gorgeous nonetheless. This is one of MGMT’s hidden treasures. 9/10

Track 14)

:( I’m actually depressed the mixtape has come to an end! And this song is befitting to the sentiment. Radiohead again, which marvellously ties this journey together. The song skilfully says farewell and leaves you where you want to be: on cloud nine.

I'm really glad that you liked my mix! :D

I did some research on the forums to see what threads you posted in for various bands and decided to make a mix of possible songs you may have not heard of. It was extremely tough to cut the mix down and I had many more songs to add. I initially was going to include two more Radiohead songs. One was Nude and the other was Treefingers (which to me flows perfectly into Gimme Sympathy). However I talked to Briggins and Alexa online and they mentioned I might have too many Radiohead songs, which I agreed with.

...anyway here's the tracklisting:

(Song-Artist [Album])

1. There There (The Boney King of Nowhere)-Radiohead [Hail to the Thief]

2. The Suburbs-Arcade Fire [The Suburbs]

3. 7/4 (Shoreline)-Broken Social Scene [broken Social Scene]

4. Soldier Jane-Beck [The Information]

5. HoppÌpolla-Sigur Rós [Takk…]

6. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi-Radiohead [in Rainbows]

7. Deep Blue Sea-Grizzly Bear [Dark was the Night]

8. Gila-Beach House [Devotion]

9. Black Tables-Other Lives [Other Lives]

10. Brennivin-The Album Leaf [seal Beach]

11. Gimme Sympathy-Metric [Fantasies]

12. No Cars Go-Arcade Fire [Neon Bible]

13. Future Reflections-MGMT [Oracular Spectacular]

14. The Tourist-Radiohead [OK Computer]

If you want any further recommendations for any artist, let me know (PM, or reply here or whatever).

Song #1)

This song is amazing! I love a song that slowly builds up to become a wonderful piece. It has a lot of instrumental, which I love. The guitar in this is brilliant, in the end especially. I can't tell you how much I love this one. Perfect start for a mixtape.

Song #2)

I really like this one. Once again, the instruments all coming together sounds brilliant. I especially like how in the end it becomes very calm and sweet from all that epic guitar playing and what not.

Song #3)

Oh, one by Vampire Weekend! I recognized the singer's voice fairly quickly. This must be off their debut, because I haven't yet listened to most of the tracks off it. I'm also going to take a guess and say this is 'I Stand Corrected' (which would make sense because of the lyrics)?

Song #4)

This song sounds really good. He has a lovely voice and the music flows with it nicely. It's different from the previous songs, I like it.

Song #5)

I had to listen to this one a few times to find words for it. The drum beat sounds nice and clear in the beginning and then it's followed by a very nice group of instruments. Me like.

Song #6)

So here we are, standing alone... Very nice intro, too. Starts with very little and comes to be a lot. Once again, a great song that builds up to something greater. This song is beautiful.

Song #7)

I really like how strong the buildup of instruments is at the beginning is. It sounds like the lead singer's very laid back with his vocals.

Song #8)

I listened to this one a couple times, I love this one. Beautiful voice and piano in the beginning. The guitar and drums really make the song though, that is what I love. A song with good guitar is a song I like. The drums and guitar make their way in and out. Did I already mention I like the guitar playing? I really love the guitar playing in this. Brilliant.

Song #9)

Sufjan, am I right? I don't know this song, but I recognize the voice well. I listened to some of his work previously, wasn't interested. But now, that I've heard this song... I love this! The lyrics also make me think horror zombie movie, which is also super awesome.

Song #10)

I give this one a few listens at once. This one is good. Nothing big really catches my attention though except that little, little bit near the middle, which actually sounded really cool. Seems like there isn't enough instrument in it, like something is missing.

Song #11)

I like this song. It's overall a very peaceful, mellow song, not exactly something I would usually listen to. The first listen to this track I wasn't really that interested in it, but on my second listen I really liked it. Good song.

Song #12)

Oh, another good one! I listened to this a few times in a row. I love the lyrics (from what I can hear of them). The instruments go very well all together and the singer's vocals sound were very nice.

Song #13)

Z-O-M-B-I-E, zombie. This is probably another one of my favorites off this mixtape. It starts sweet and slow, then that line comes in and... amazing! Oh and I also love zombies, so that's cool.

Song #14)

Another great song, what a great way to end. It's a song hard to find words for besides awesome. It's really something I'd be caught listening to. Patience, patience....

This mixtape was amazing! I love how the music on here is really diverse, it's PERFECT. I was looking for different styles of music to listen too and you gave me just that. Love the ones with lots of instrumental. If you can't tell, the first one is certainly my favorite, followed by #8. Brilliant mixtape, the songs are superb. So many thanks to you!

That's my mixtape! Wow, I'm so glad you liked almost all the songs :D So here's the tracklist:

1. "I sold my hands for food so please feed me" - Get Well Soon [Rest Now Weary Head...You Will Get Well Soon, 2008]

2. "Sylvia" - The Antlers [Hospice, 2009]

3. "I stand corrected" - Vampire Weekend [Vampire Weekend, 2008]

4. "Rio" - Hey Marseilles [To Travel and Trunks, 2010]

5. "Cliquot" - Beirut [The Flying Club Cup, 2007]

6. "Close your eyes, we are blind" - Alaska in Winter feat. Zach Condon of Beirut [Dance Party in the Balkans, 2007]

7. "Squalor victoria" - The National [boxer, 2007]

8. "The snow leopard" - Shearwater [Rook, 2008]

9. "They are night zombies!! They are neighbors!! They have come back from the dead!! Ahhhh! - Sufjan Stevens [illinois, 2005]

10. "Graceland" - Casiotone for the Painfully Alone [Graceland EP, 2006]

11. "Scythian empire" - Andrew Bird [Armchair Apocrypha, 2007]

12. "Against me" - Why? [Eskimo Snow, 2009]

13. "My body's a zombie for you" - Dead Man's Bones [Dead Man's Bones, 2009]

14. "Unwind" - Julian Plenti [Julian Plenti is Skyscraper, 2009]

Notes:

1. Get Well Soon is one of the best underrated bands I've come across :) I recommend listening to its albums!

5. Vocals by Owen Pallett and not by Zach Condon

8. Some claimed that the instrumentation sounds similar to Radiohead's Pyramid Song. Being a Radiohead fan, did you hear any similarity? :)

10. A cover of Paul Simon's Graceland

13. Dead Man's Bones lead singer is actor Ryan Gosling

14. Julian Plenti is Paul Banks (Interpol) :D

Two Zombie songs! LOL. I didn't realize.

Thanks for enjoying the mix! :D I'm very happy.

6. "Close your eyes, we are blind" - Alaska in Winter feat. Zach Condon of Beirut [Dance Party in the Balkans, 2007]

That whole album is great. :nice:

Apparently my review shall be first! Haha! I beat you all!

Track 1 - Quite honestly, I loved the beat of this one. It reminded me as if you mixed Phoenix and Coldplay; all around, pretty good. Great song pick for an intro.

Track 2 – This one I didn’t really care for. It didn’t seem as full, as if it was missing something. The man singing almost sounded like David Gray. It was a good song, just I wish there was a bit more instrumental back up.

Track 3 – This song intrigued me from the beginning. Then once it got into it a bit, I started losing interest. I love the beat of it. It’s very catchy! I don’t know whether or not I can classify it as sounding a bit mainstream. If so, then I will give it a thumbs down. If not, then this is an artist I may listen to a little. Not as much as my obsession with some other bands. But, still….

Track 4 – Funny enough, the beginning of this song reminded me of that song in Napoleon Dynamite. I don’t really care for the man’s singing. But, once the song progressed into the instrumental portion panning out, I liked it. Very ‘indie’ sounding if you would want to say that. Toward the end of the song is where I started to like it very much. The vocalist’s voice sounded ‘fuller’. A good song though, I would have to say.

Track 5 – The same vocalist from Track 4. It’s a good thing to give a variety of an artist on a mixtape, that way the listener won’t judge by one song. I must say, I liked this song better then the Track 4 song. He doesn’t sound as if he is trying to make a point by being all gushy with his voice. His voice sounds full. A decent song.

Track 6 – This reminds me of a band called ‘The Streets’. I kind of like it, sort of like Lovesick by Lindstrom & Christabelle. Toward the middle of the song is when I was hooked. I am in love with the guitar riff, even as minor as it may be. A good song!

Track 7 – The beginning of this song scared me a bit. But, once the vocalist began singing, I quite liked it. Especially that voice riff. I have to bring my brother into this for the fact that I think he would love this song a lot.

Track 8 – I LOVED this one. It had me from the beginning. Sounds like the same artist of Track 6. I loved the guitar’s placement in this song. I would definitely listen to this song repeatedly, and possibly even recommend to people. Who knows, this may be the next band I buy an album of. Again, I loved this song.

Track 9 – For some reason, this brought back a thought of like a live performance at Glastonbury. I like the instrumental part of this song. On the other hand, I’m not a big fan of the guy’s voice. Overall, I really don’t have much to say about this song. I would have to give it maybe a 7 out of 10.

Track 10 - Nice to see a song I actually know on this mix tape! I’m actually a big fan of Passion Pit. My friend happened to have turned me on to this odd electrona indie rock. But, I do love the song Swimming In the Flood. Great song by a great artist!

Track 11 - Okay, I loved this song. Period. It kind of reminded me of a modern version of Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)! I seriously love everything about this song: the instrumentals, the beat, the melody, and the vocalists’ subtleness of singing. The best song on this mix tape by far!

Track 12 – I swear I’ve heard this song somewhere before. In fact I know I have. I just happen not to know the name of it. It’s a great song though! My brother has it on his iPod. I give it an 8 out of a 10.

Track 13 - I’m not crazy about this song, but I don’t hate it. Again, my brother would probably like it. In fact, he probably has it. I don’t have much to say about it, just an okay song.

Track 14 – LOVE IT. I am a big fan of Arkells. And I have yet to get this album! This makes me want to go out and buy this album right now!

Track 15 - I somehow knew I was going to get a song by Phoenix. I actually saw them live on June 11 this year in Cary, NC. (as noted in my signature) “Written in your signed armistice.” A great song that is actually the ringtone for texts on my phone! It’s nice to hear it every time I turn around!

HEY! :D :D

This is the first mixtape I exchange on here and I was nervous that you wouldn't like it but I guess it's not that bad eh? :) Thank you for listening to it and I had to add in a Phoenix song just in case it was DISASTEROUS :P

Here's the tracklisting:

1. Intro - The XX

2. Heart Skipped A Beat - The XX

3. Wonder - Dan Black

4. Love Lost - The Temper Trap

5. Fader - The Temper Trap
