Ms Magpie
She's a good actor, I suppose, but the mere idea of turning John into a woman is preposterous.
vanessarrent
Yeah, it's a good actress, but I can't imagine Watson as a woman...
dry_pretzels
As long as the CBS Watson has the qualities and characteristics of Conan Doyle's Watson (loyalty, a fighter, etc.), I'm all for a female Watson.
Ms Magpie
Yeah, me too. Hopefully she won't just stand there and do nothing. That I'd hate.
Megalomania
tbh I don't care what gender they are, it's the fact that CBS is screwing with the background that's annoying me. In case you didn't hear, Sherlock's only in NY because he was removed from Scotland Yard after drug abuse. Watson's not a heroic, respectable army doctor invalided home, she's going to be a hospital doctor that lost her license after a patient died. There's nothing respectable about that. This also would not have annoyed me as much if it wasn't so OBVIOUS that they're trying to ride off of BBC Sherlock's (well-deserved) fame and glory. Ms Magpie
Well, it's standard practice that some American televisions are 'adapting' successful British TV shows instead of making something good on their own. Or that's the general feeling I get. And no, I didn't hear that. That's so disappointing, they're not heroes or intelligent individuals any more, just.. two persons who had to move across the Pond because of a mistake they've made. I mean, LUL. :(
dry_pretzels
It does bug me a lot that the writers decided to get rid of Watson's army background. Just from the summary CBS has released so far, it can feel like Holmes and Watson are less admirable than their canon characters. We'll have to wait for the pilot episode to see how they're written and how they handle their respective problems and issues. I don't have high hopes for this show, but I don't know. Maybe it will be fantastic, maybe it will be mediocre, or just be downright horrible.
Ms Magpie
I have nothing to add to your post because I agree with you. I think they'd be better off if they did a completely new detective series that isn't really connected to Sherlock.

I really don't care what they've done with Sherlock, after all in the books he was always a drug addict. But John was always supposed to be the responsible one, the steadfast friend, the loyal war hero, the brave support for Sherlock.
The Doctor
can't add anything here, everything is already said :blank: so America keeps the addict but removes all of the other things of the canon :\ so stupid

Megalomania
HBO are quality. CBS are alas shit :\ Sorry, I should have been more specific. The main channels (CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC)'s shows are mostly shit. Except that new one Awake, that one's pretty good. :P Most of the television I watch now is on PBS or BBC America, so basically British shows. :|

Ms Magpie
I'm mostly ignoring American TV series apart from Arrested Development and Mad Men so I think I can say that everything I watch is British.

vanessarrent
It's hard for me to imagine Watson as a woman. I always have in mind Jude Law and Martin Freeman. Sorry, I should have been more specific. The main channels (CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC)'s shows are mostly shit. NBC, it's good! There are Chuck, SNL and The Office!! On Fox, there are House and The Simpsons which is good! ABC is the worst. Never really got the fuss with the american Office. Terribly unfunny.
vanessarrent
^But, you know, a TV channel can not have all the good shows. It's the same in each country. I really like The Office when Steve Carell was there. To me, it's funny.
