yeah she's into music but its like dashboard confessional / i dont really know much about them, im not to into the whole emo business but she likes music alot and she writes poems and stuff hmm...

I'm not sure. It sounds like what you say doesn't matter; that she's just too bashful and shy to engage in normal conversation. That sucks, and unless you really like the girl this could just be a waste of your time. That said, if you really like her just ask her direct, open-ended questions which will force her to talk. If she says something like "Oh, I don't know" and acts too bashful, press her and say something like "No, really. I want to know. Come on." If she doesn't want to talk to you and doesn't want to get to know you more then it sounds like she might just be grubbing for attention and I would suggest you move on until she's ready to engage in normal interaction.

 

Now the topic of this conversation doesn't really matter, although you are more likely to succeed if you hit on an interest of hers. More important than anything is probably to approach the conversation from the mindset that you're genuinely interested in learning as much about her as possible. With that in mind, the topic isn't important. All that's important is that she opens up about something. Music ... as her what she likes. Movies ... same thing. What does she think about the teacher? Does she thing the person sitting in front of you smells. Anything. Just talk.

I'm not into that either. I can't stand dashboard either. But maybe just ask her what she likes about that stuff ... what her favorite song is ... what the song is about ... you know, try to get more information, to see her point of view. Just act interested, and don't judge.

 

When you're done talking to her you can say to yourself "damn, taht was lame." But while you're talking to her your goal should be to be as open as possible.

well I'd look them up on the net and the ask her if she has the latest cd, what her favorite song is ect. And then ask her if she's ever heard of a group that you like and talk about that

No, that would be the opposite of an open-ended question. Anything which can be answered by a "yes" or a "no" is a bad question. First, it doesn't start conversations. Second, Yes/No questions arent usually ones which seem like they're thought out. If you ask a question which will get her talking for a while (and then actually listen) you'll have exhibited a genuine interest. You'll get nice little moments where she'll say something like "I'm talking too much" and you can say "No, you're not. i like to hear stuff about you."

 

A good open ended question asks for an explanation. Now you probably don't want to say something like "Why do you like Dashboard so much?" because that puts her on the defensive. Maybe go into this line of questioning:

 

"So what other bands do you like?"

 

"How long have you been listening to that kind of music?"

 

"So what makes Dashboard stand out above all these other bands?"

 

And if she tells you it's because Chris Carraba is so cute, run. :D

 

If you're saying that she's not normally bashful that might be a good thing. People usually dont become bashful around others unless they feel differently towards them. At the same time, she might just be the type of person who isn't used to getting attention. Either way, one thing to keep in mind is that you want her to be comfortable around you, so don't force anything. When she thinks about you, she should only think positive things, so what you do around her should leave her feeling comfortable, safe, and attractive.
