I think that not everyone has to love Radiohead, in the same sense not everyone has to love the Beatles or whatever. At the same time regardless of if you like the band or not you cannot deny their importance and influece.

I say the same thing all the time. With certain bands, it doesn't matter whether you like them or not. You have to give them credit because enough of the bands you do like have been influenced by them.

Yep exactly and I'm sure the fans at concerts are not dying to hear "Creep".

I mean I'd love to hear Creep at least once, but it is definitely not a song on say my top 20 to see live.

I think most of Radiohead's major fans hate Creep anyway.

In terms of not playing Creep live I don't think it's so bad. I mean all bands should not have to continue to play songs that they do not like to play live. Of course Radiohead has other popular/well known songs to play in it's place, so it's not much of a problem

I don't see it as being that bad, either, but I think they should play it more than they do. Most of the general public wants to at least hear Creep, Fake Plastic Trees, High and Dry, or Karma Police.

They didn't play one of those songs at the only Radiohead show I ever went to. I was ok with it because I am a hardcore fan, but I think that would be disappointing to someone who is not. And I must say, I was a bit disappointed. I like songs that are nostalgic and take me back to the beginning. It reminds me of when I first got into the band.

that is true. I saw them twice and they didn't play any of those songs. I'm the same as you in that being a hardcore fan it isn't such a big deal. But i could sort of see why other fans might want to hear those songs more than others.

when i saw pearl jam live they didnt play alive, daughter, better man or last kiss (ie their 4 biggest songs) and i thought that was very cool. but most of the 40 000 people i saw them with didnt so that made me feel all nice and snobbish inside :D

Yeah, and while Creep and High and Dry are not my favorite Radiohead songs, Karma Police and Fake Plastic Trees are. That's why I was so bummed when they played every single track off In Rainbows. It's like, could you cut 1 or 2 songs and play a classic?

understandable. but at the same time the band was really enjoying playing live songs from In Rainbows. I mean personally the last thing I'd want is to have a band feel like they have to play a song live when they are not in the mood to. To me it'd be like they give off a bad vibe.

I like hearing all the In Rainbow songs, too. It's a great album. But I wish I got to hear other songs.

It would be nice if they'd play a longer set. That way, they could accomplish both.

^^

dont they usually play 23 to 25 songs each night? seems like a reasonable number to me.

Yeah, that's almost exactly how many they play. It's reasonable, but there are some bands that play more. I would like Radiohead to be one of those bands. Like the Cure or Bruce Springsteen - they play for 3 hours.

^^

dont forget pearl jam!! at least 30 songs per night and wildly different sets each night.

Good point. But like we've said before, it's hard to compare any band to Pearl Jam live.

My favourite band is Radiohead. And I know most of their songs by heart. I listen to many other bands which I love as well But only Sigur Rós gets close to the devotion I have for Radiohead's music. I dislike The Beatles and Dylan for example, when half of earth's population worships them

My point is that music is completely subjective, therefore, it shouldn't be awe inspiring that a person likes or doesn't like certain artists or albums. You can't judge music objectively unless you are considering fame, success, influence, etc. Music's purpose is to express something that the artist considers appealing to his own senses, while the receiver must decide by himself whether it's captivating or not according to his own perception.

But music can't be juged as awful or excellent, just different to your taste. The only characterisic music must have is to be a form of expression, no matter how awkward it is. The problem is that now we get a lot of empty and contrived music.

Btw I think that creep is a really good song, but it's just that Radiohead have better.

there has always been a lot of empty and contrived music around. i hate it how people seem to think that music was perfect and wonderful until the 21st century when suddenly all music became shit. there is just as much shit music now as there was 50yrs ago.

If it came down to Creep vs a b-side..like Talk Show Host or True Love Waits...Radiohead fans, which would you chose??

I really could not care less about Creep. They have dozens of better songs.

I like Creep. Not all of the time though... and True Love Waits and Talk Show Host are two of their best songs.

I think you're correct - there has always been crap music. It just seems like you need to look harder to find "good music," which I don't think is a positive thing. I remember when all young kids knew the best, most talented bands in the world. Now, it seems like most of the youth go for more crap music, and a much smaller minority seek out the great bands. I mean, a lot of people on this message board have good taste in music, but they are obviously music fanatics and have sought it out. It didn't come to them, they went to it.

2. I don't think anyone's dumb for not liking them. It's a matter of taste, and I get annoyed at Radiohead fans who tend to be an elitist bunch.

3. I can't stand when people are asked about their favorite band and they throw Radiohead out there just to be cool.

Well said on both counts.

I listened to radiohead 5,000 times just to be cool.
