Do You prefer Autographs or Pictures with a band?

Featured Replies

Personally I never understood why autographs are so coveted. The idea of getting excited over a famous person scribbling on something because their a famous person ...never did it for me.

A picture however, amazing!

Not only are you in the personal bubble of someone you idolize or look up to or respect while taking the picture (and if your lucky with their hand on your shoulder or resting on your waist)

but the concept of a photo visually freezing a moment in time where you met someone who you are a big fan of ....seems like probably the best thing outside of conversation with said person.

Imo ...I think its especially cool since the case with most famous artists (music, film, writing, whatever) is that by being well known and well liked you have a case where someone is a part of thousands of peoples lives and means a lot to them all without that person knowing any of them.

I think thats really what makes it such a trip when you meet someone you've grown up listening to or whatever. And Im guessing it might be cool for the artist too, to see their work implemented in someone's every day life instead of hearing a figure of how many records were sold or downloaded.

Unless their one of THOSE fans of coarse.

Thoughts?

I must admit that I don't really give a damn about both things....I mean, if I took a pic with Thom Yorke and me I could only use it to show off with after all they are people like you and me.

Autographs are even worse.

I like both: pictures and autographs. Not that have many of either of them XD! But I tend to feel that just talking to the person has much more value than sthg material. I've had the lucky chance to bump into one of my favorite artist in a small pizza place in London just the day before I was going to see his show *karma*. I didn't ask for an autograph or a photo cause we were in a public place, nobody had noticed him and he was leaving, but I just went talked to him for 2min, small chit-chat about the upcoming gig etc. He was very sweet and this priviledge, total random moment means more to me than the pic & autograph I've had of him the next day after the gig where he was surrounded by fans...

I'm sure that Anna and Imke who met Chris & Guy recently would back me up on this...Being able to talk to them, even if you know they won't remember you the week after, see with your 'own' eyes how they behave off stage, means more than the actual picture.

what artist did you meet?

what artist did you meet?

The man in my sig, the lovely Gary Lightbody :) I was going to see him with his 'other band' Tired Pony the next day. After the show, I saw Peter Buck from REM (also in Tired Pony), just got his sig but he was surprised we still bought acutal CDs in France :laugh3:

I like autographs if they're really special. for example, Liam Finn drew a really cool little drawing of a guitar on my t-shirt! (which happened to be a liam finn one :P)

Aurélie, you're right!

Seeing that they seemed caring enough to ask about our names and where we're from and chatting about other bands and concerts was cool!

I mean, like you said, they most certainly won't remember it now, but it was great for us that they actually showed interest.

Talking to James McAvoy was another highlight. Like Chris and Gwyneth, James and his wife don't talk about personal things publicly, he was totally different when we talked to him, very open etc.

Funniest encounter probably was when Paul from Snow Patrol told us the story about why he wore a white shirt at a gig in Seattle.

Concerning the OP's question:

I've seen so many autograph hunters already who have those clipboards with prints on them that they want to have signed that I don't care sooooo much for an autograph.

Getting a personal dedication though is something different.

But yeah, I agree with ViVA Child:

+100000 same here with gL, he was really attentiv and 'interested' (?). I will never forget his smile through the all thing.

i got both and both i liked cause i liked the artist.

but off music business i kinda prefer an autograph for the 'dedication'.

I've met many artists I admire and it's feels so akward  but it's awesome to see them offstage after admiring them for so many years. I like photos more than autographs but both brings me back the memories of the day when I met them so it's almost equally great :P Plus the picture I wanted more didn't work because Jonny is so tall and the camera was way too close

Depends on the situation to be honest.

I like getting albums and setlists signed.

Pictures can be fun too.

^I agree that it depends, though I've only met once musician before (Glen Hansard).

I think that Photos are special in the sense that as mentioned, you can remember the moment it was taken. At the same time I think it's pretty cool to get an autograph as well.

...i just need to meet more musicians though :P

Photo You can't get a boner over a Signature,

Or can You

Female boner :wreck:

Not that I have ever had a picture taken with a band, nor a signature, but I would prefer a picture. Even though I would look retarded.

You are soo lucky!

Ive never met a famous musician, shit Ive never met anyone famous! ...closest Ive come is Jeff Corwin. And even then I just stared at him, squeaked out a "hi" and booked it.

:laugh3::laugh3: Thats totally why i prefer pictures lol.

:uhoh: Yes! We talked for about half an hour inside the theatre after we've seen him perform in "Three Days Of Rain" and then he signed my copy of the play (the one I linked to in the post.) :awesome:

You have such a great karma Anna!! Lucky you :D

EXCELLENT!!! ahhh Pablo....  I red your all story, AGAIN, so lucky!!!

I know my luck, believe me! I still can't believe it...!

i've never been a huge fan of autographs, as long as the person just scribbles his/her name on a piece of paper and that's it. i don't get why some people are even willing to pay money for that on ebay :blank:

like anna said, it is kinda cool though if you get something personal. when i met the guys from travis, they all asked for my name before signing my ticket, so that they could write it down - dougie also drew little hearts which was quite cute ;D (he always does that though, haha  )

if i had to choose between pics and autographs, it's definitely pics.

but it wasn't until we met chris martin that i ever took a pic with someone famous, because i was usually way too shy for that  for example, my friend and i met richard ashcroft a couple of years ago and while she had her pic taken, i just stood there and waited (and actually took the pic for her HAHA) - jeez. but when we met chris i just thought "well, now you have to - otherwise no one at home will believe what's just happened!" :laugh3: and i obviously wanted something to remember that moment...

apart from chris, i only have a pic with fran healy - which took ages because the flash of my camera wasn't working :awesome:

so yeah... photos. but it rarely happens because it's kinda awkward for me. just talking to the person is fine anyway :nice:

AND Fran Healy!

oy! your lucky!

damn you all! gimme some of that luck because I seriously have THE worst luck in the world.

^he happened to be at the travis gig i attended in london back in 2008 ;) kinda bumped into him afterwards.
