Do You prefer Autographs or Pictures with a band?

Featured Replies

I like both: pictures and autographs. Not that have many of either of them XD! But I tend to feel that just talking to the person has much more value than sthg material. I've had the lucky chance to bump into one of my favorite artist in a small pizza place in London just the day before I was going to see his show *karma*. I didn't ask for an autograph or a photo cause we were in a public place, nobody had noticed him and he was leaving, but I just went talked to him for 2min, small chit-chat about the upcoming gig etc. He was very sweet and this priviledge, total random moment means more to me than the pic & autograph I've had of him the next day after the gig where he was surrounded by fans...

I'm sure that Anna and Imke who met Chris & Guy recently would back me up on this...Being able to talk to them, even if you know they won't remember you the week after, see with your 'own' eyes how they behave off stage, means more than the actual picture.

have to back you on that too. pix & autographs are great as a reminder of the experience, but the best would still be actually chatting with your fave actor/actress/band/singer/etc under less frantic situations (like when they're surrounded by other fans or in a rush to get somewhere).

can't say i had any intelligent conversations with a-chan's guy. you lucky girl you. ;) i could only manage a couple of unintelligent mumbles 1st time i met him & his band mates elsewhere :embarrassed: & the other time he was surrounded by lots of ppl post gig.

but i did get to have a chat with a few of the guys from The Domino State before & after their gig. the lead singer still owes a drink & the drummer promised to give something (whatever that might be) next time he sees us... :laugh3:

Also you have more chance that they will Put their arm around you :bomb:

and You never have to wash again :laugh3:

I had the chance to met 2 of my favorite artists and I agree with :

-conversation

-picture with

-autograph

But if I can, I take all!

It's as if this thread were created for me.

Autographs all the way.

I am a huge memorabilia collector. Now, when I say autographs, I don't mean a scribble on a piece of paper. I like getting signed vinyl, cd covers, magazine covers, and over sized photos. I look at that stuff as artwork. Paul McCartney on Abbey Road vinyl? Pet Sounds on vinyl signed by every living member of the Beach Boys? Fully signed OK Computer on cd and vinyl? Come on, that stuff is history.

I don't understand the ebay thing, either. Whether it's a picture or an autograph, the whole idea, to me, is to take away an experience. I see very limited appeal in buying someone else's in-person experience.

I do pictures sometimes, but it's hard to do both. I really don't like taking pictures, so that's part of the reason I don't do photos much.

I've met just about every significant rock star.

yah you did and I'm forever jealous :bomb:

i like pictures best because it seems more personal. but then again if you have something really awesome and rare you want them to sign, then that works too.

Actually, I prefer having a paper setlist than either a photo or autograph. Set list with autographs is the best for me. But that's really because I don't like to be in photos.

even if i have a chance to meet my favorite famous ppl i would never meet them,

i don't know i just don't want them to get massive egos:rolleyes:

i think it's something from whr i am we don't like making famous ppl think they're important:thinking:

but a picture is better then an autograph

Photo You can't get a boner over a Signature,

Or can You

i love they way you think kat:laugh3:

The man in my sig, the lovely Gary Lightbody :) I was going to see him with his 'other band' Tired Pony the next day. After the show, I saw Peter Buck from REM (also in Tired Pony), just got his sig but he was surprised we still bought acutal CDs in France :laugh3:

Holy shit Gary L.? IM JEALOUS!! -la chanceuuuhhhh-

Was he nice ? (and was the gig good ?)

^he happened to be at the travis gig i attended in london back in 2008 ;) kinda bumped into him afterwards.

Ohhh Lucky you, I love Travis!! These guys deserve way more success..

Holy shit Gary L.? IM JEALOUS!! -la chanceuuuhhhh-

He was absolutely lovely :) Very easy going to talk to and always smiling at you. Adorable but soooo tall :laugh3: As for the gig, absolutely amazing, probably the best gig I will ever witness. I would say 'perfectly imperfect' as they were more 'busking' than playing an 'organised' concert, but they were all so happy on stage, no ego at all, just pure fun...Pretty humbling experience. Plus, we laughed a LOT thx to Gary's banters between songs :laugh3: Overall magical :awesome:

A picture is far more special and it often means that you got to talk to him/her which is THE best thing given you admire their work and all!

Of course, if you can't take a photo/actually-meet-them, then an autograph can serve as a good piece of memorabilia for you! Sth that will always remind you that day! Cause Imo even if you don't get that close Chris for example, the fact that he was close enough to scribble sth on your tour programme is special!

Both!

I really love my autograph..Its makes me happy that they wrote it for me..I got it after a really big operation.. I would love a picture with Chris or one of the guys, but it dosent matter, i would be happy for both of them.

Awwww!! I went to see Snow Patrol 2 times and I agree with you, he's really funny and charming :)) Btw you just went for London for the gig or you're living there at the moment? 'Cause Im going soon, and I have a spare ticket for a gig Im attending, I dont want it to go to waste so, just in case Im asking.. ;)

When I was really young I was mostly interested in autographs (with a dedication, though) and I would collect the signatures in a book and put a self taken photograph of the person on the other page.

Then all these autograph hunters who would sell the signatures on Ebay showed up and somehow autographs lost their magic for me.

So I started asking people whether I could have my picture taken with them.

Pictures are still the most precious thing for me.

When going through them, they remind me of so many wonderful things which happened when meeting the particular person.

Of course a conversation is the best thing which could happen to you but these moments are very rare, as most of the time you don't have a real chance for a nice/longer chat plus I'm always way too shy and lost for words when talking to (famous) people :laugh3:

Afterwards you have the funniest ideas what you could have said aso. (in case you are lucky to remember what kind of nonsense you babbled) but the chance just passed.

However, I really don't want to complain. :)

I reckon' everyone has different priorities but for me the order would be:

- photo

- conversation (only 2nd place due to lack of spontaneity & shyness)

- autograph

I think when you talk about photo/conversation/autograph, you have to remember that a lot of the time the choice isn't yours. This is especially true for bigger names. Yeah, I would have loved to have had a conversation with Paul McCartney about the Beatles. And it would have been great to get a picture with him. But security only allowed one autograph/no pictures. I told him that I loved his music, got my autograph, and that was good enough for me.

Other musicians, like thom yorke and Eddie vedder, don't like having their picture taken. I would have asked but they say no in advance.

Then there are musicians who you just feel funny about asking for a photo. Like Morrissey - I just asked for the autograph because I felt a picture would be awkward.

Finally, a lot of the times I meet celebrities in a crowd. They are not going to do pictures for 50 people, but they may sign 50 autographs.

I just take what I can get and am grateful. It's all for my personal collection anyhow.

No I went just for the gig :) Thx for asking though, which band/artist are you gonna see?

Exactly!! :)

You can hardly choose. Anything you'll get is a complete bonus and I'm really grateful for anything.

even if you know they won't remember you the week after

I know two drummers who don't fit in this description :P

In general I'd rather try to have a few words with them and then if I remember I ask for a picture and maybe an autograph, but considering my experience when I met my favourite bands it didn't let me down not having their autographs

Im going to see Lifehouse <3

photo for sure

what if someone says pics or it didnt happen

I think I'd prefer a picture since it's a real reminder that you've met them (for those days in which you surely can't believe it really happened). You can get an autograph without actually having to meet the person, but if you get it, I'm sure it would be pretty special too :nice:. I've never met any of my favourite bands/people yet, but if I do I'd go for the pic first, but I'd be more than thrilled to get their autograph too. Especially if you get them to sign something important like an album or a concert programme/ticket instead of just a random piece of paper.

photo for sure

I can only speak for myself, but I really don't care if people believe me. I do it because I want to meet the people who have helped shape my life. The autograph or picture is just a keep sake that stems from that experience.

A picture ...signed
