More Harry Potter books to come?

Featured Replies

Oprah Winfrey cast quite a spell over 'Harry Potter' author J.K. Rowling, luring the reclusive novelist onto her show for an interview that aired Friday. And if you thought Rowling would confirm Harry's retirement, well, the British writer had other tricks up her sleeve.

"I could definitely write an eighth, a ninth book," Rowling said, tantalizing fans of the beloved wizard series. "I think I am done, but you never know."

The sit-down occurred in Edinburgh, Scotland, where the two talked about how the 1990 death of Rowling's mother left the writer with a well of grief -- and inspiration.

"The books wouldn't be what they are if she hadn't died," explained Rowling. "I mean, her death is literally on every other page in the 'Harry Potter' books."

She added, "At least half of Harry's journey is to deal with death, what it does to the living, what it means to die, what survives death....If she hadn't died, I don't think it is too strong to say there wouldn't be Harry Potter. The books are what they are because she died."

The author, 45, also revealed what it was like to end the seventh (and presumably last) novel in the franchise, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows':

"It was a bereavement, it was huge," she told Oprah. "Initially I was elated, then I cried like I had never cried before."

Now married to anesthesiologist Dr. Neil Murray, her second husband, Rowling says -- despite a fortune Forbes estimates at $1 billion from book sales plus film and merchandise royalties -- she often still feels like the nearly homeless single mom she once was. "I do still worry" about money, she said.

And who but Oprah Winfrey would understand better the startling sensation of struggling to make a paycheck before suddenly striking it rich -- and very famous?

"I really, really never" saw it coming, said Rowling. "I was so unprepared for it, and this was the thing that I think I really have never spoken about: I was a writer. I had no one near me, either professionally or personally, who could in any way help me when I had questions, like, 'What do you do when the press is searching through our trash?'"

And the Independently Mega-Wealthy Women's Support Group was born.

Oooh, if there will be, it would be an interesting read! She's an amazing writer.

Only reason why she would write more Harry Potter books?

$$$$$$$

^nah, i don't think so. isn't she like one of the richest people in britain? i guess she doesn't need to do it for money reasons ;)

another book would be brilliant, but i don't really think it's gonna happen, hmmm.

She's mad.

I think she should just leave it finished, if she wants to write more then great, but start a new series.

yeah finished is finished she wont right anymore, but she coud right a new character from the same series from A different time frame, back when the "Voldemort" of olden times was back then whats that guys name Albergast? somehting with an A , Dumbledores nemesis... yeha they should do an olden times version with a diff character

Hasn't she been working on other, unrelated books? Like she used to talk a lot about a political adult drama she was writing.

She could continue the series, it would be interesting. Besides, the resurrection stone is still somewhere on the Forbidden Forest's grounds.

But.... what more is there to write?

I DEFINATELY think she should write other things

but continuing the harry potter series after she already tied up all the loose ends would... eeehhh no, just be milking it, stretching it out and creating some improbable scenario that would fit akwardly around the ending she already made

she just needs to write other stuff thats all.

I want an adult teen book or something!

Noooooooooo, just no. Harry Potter used to be my favourite series ever when I was growing up, but writing another one would be a disaster. And I already feel like seventh book was really lame. :shame:

If it's to do sthg like the epilogue (which is no better than a teenage fanfic IMO :dozey:) I prefer that she doesn't write anything! What I want is the story of the Maraudeurs or the HP encyclopedia...

^ :laugh3:

no I mean stories about Harry's parents, Sirius and the rest of them and their life at Hogwarts

I Think that would make a good Comedy movie

I can picture Mrs.Weasley running behind her 15 children, and then Mr.Weasley comes home and does the whole "honny I'm home" thing. They both kiss, and then a cheesy intro starts playing that looks like the beggining of Full House

I would love nothing more :smug:

Not a bad idea!

Alternatively they could do "Hogwarts high school Reunion" or Hogwarts high school Musical".:P

^ why so serious The Final Track :inquisitive:

Because he takes his HP very seriously?
