November 29, 201015 yr Ok I wasn't going to post on this as it's become something of a dead horse issue to me. but... I am AMAZED that anyone (let alone a "so called fan" would complain about what went down on that boat. I've posted on this many times before, and not just for this band, but for any band, but seriously some people need lessons in manners and respect. It's come up before, notably with the "leftrightleftright" cd giveaway, but it seems to me that when the band goes out of it's way to show appreciation for their fans, the least their fans can do is return the politeness. Crap like this is why so many bands (or any other type of celebrity really) don't go out of their way to interact with people. I'm sure the boys thought they were doing something really nice for people, and now they're getting dumped on for it. Really CP is a rare band in the amount of personal interaction they're willing to have with fans. Ask yourself, how many other bands would take the amount of time they have to meet and chat with the people who show up around their studio? I've had experience working around a lot of bands and I can tell you it's not many, and it's even less so among bands who have CP's level of fame. -climbs off soapbox-

If people want the boys to stay as personable and friendly as they've been (judging by numerous reports from people who have met them), they need to return the favor. Otherwise, they'll turn into one of the many bands that never goes above and beyond for anything. If the band is guilty of anything, it would seem to be that they overestimated the popularity of meeting three of their backline crew. (although I did briefly meet Miller once and he was quite cool.)

November 29, 201015 yr Ok, I've spent some time reading through the rest of the thread and I feel I have to say a couple more things: 1. As I've said before, traveling large distances for a band is a risky proposition. It can at times be rewarding, but the quality of what you see may be diminished in relation to how far you had to travel. Keep this in mind before you jet off around the world. 2. Although I don't know the specific details, open bar at a lot of events creates a huge insurance liability and EMI may not have been willing to deal with that. (and make no mistake all the ND stuff people had to deal with came from them not the band.) 3. Miller's inability to do the Q and A may indeed have been a last minute thing. I've worked in media situations a fairly long time now and often you don't know the exact logistics you need until close to the time you begin. This goes double if Matt was truly sick, as they could well have been one key crew member down. 4 I really don't think anyone was intentionally "used" Let's be frank, the band could have easily found 100 people willing to appear in Camden alone (let alone all of London or all of the UK). It's really too complicated a scheme just to save on extras as some have claimed. 5. I can't help wondering if maybe the community hear over hyped the invite a bit. Perhaps the band thought Ian would handle the whole thing a bit more low key? (I'm in no way criticizing anyone, just throwing it out there.)

As for a competition, next time I'll reread the conditions of it, that's what I didn't do as I entered the competition by chance just before it ended. Actually I hadn't read it at all. I might have gone to the first page to read up the conditions. It seems a lot of people out there are angry but i'm not. For me it's already an old story:D. By the way you talked to my husband near the Bakery, you remember ? You were seating behind us on the boat.

(I'm in no way criticizing anyone, just throwing it out there.)I felt it was handled proportionately to the scale of the event, no media found out (to our knowledge) prior to the day of the event and apart from a few tweets and messages on facebook, everything was kept "in-house". Any promotion by others (blogs, linkbacks, retweets etc) was out of our control. One news article on the main site was necessary to alert regular readers to the trip in case they missed the thread on the forums (and a few did) :)

I've met the band in the flesh, it's the main thing that might have been done another day but I don't have the opportunity to go to London and it was one. I intended to go over there for concerts next year. I've visited this beautiful city again. I met other Coldplayers. I don't regret it at all. It didn't come out expensive as i didn't pay for the hotel this time but only for Eurotunnel with a special 2 day price.

I would have given my left tit to be there , but had to pull out cos I was sick and couldn't fly from AUSTRALIA...... I'm perfectly fine that I didn't go now, my expectations were maybe a little high...but I still would have had a blast meeting all the Coldplayers....we are a special breed. X

You're admitting that you didn't read the description/conditions of the boat tour, yet you complained to them about it? That is probably the first direct input that they received from any "fans" (I'm using that term loosely here), by implying that lots of people were disappointed. It's one thing to express it here, it's a completely different story to go to their door and ask them to come out just so you can tell them how disappointed you are and "oh by the way while you're out here I want to get some pictures with you even though I just told you that you suck." Unbelievable. Actually I don't know what is more unbelievable: the fact that you did it, or the fact that you don't see anything wrong with what you did. You walked past me that morning and we briefly spoke (I was one of the people that didn't walk by the studios because there were too many people just hanging around). Had I in any way known that you planned to directly tell them you were disappointed, I would have begged and pleaded and told you not to because of how rude it is to them and the other fans. Gosh, if only I had known... EDIT: Oh, and regard into the drinks issue, I don't know why people are complaining that they didn't give us free (alcoholic) drinks anyway. I'm 99.42% sure they didn't because it's a LIABILITY ISSUE. If they provide us with alcohol and we do something stupid to ourselves or someone else (like fall off the platform in the tube and get smashed to bits), they can probably be held liable and be sued. So I think it's a good thing that they didn't provide us with free drinks. Think for more than 2 seconds people!
