December 9, 201015 yr Didn't know if we had one and I never know where to put all the Coldplay articles and tidbits so I thought i would start al thread. Please let me know if this is the wrong place on the forum
December 9, 201015 yr Rolling Stone is just not as relevant as it used to be  That may be true, but it still is a major, major player in the world of music and pop culture.
December 9, 201015 yr ^ What are you basing that on? I read it monthly, and the interviews and stories are fantastic. I think the reviews are spotty, but that's it. When Rolling Stome says they want to write a feature on you, there isn't an artist around that wouldn't freak out over that kind of coverage. No, it doesn't always appeal to music geeks (of which I am one), but I would imagine it's the most widely read music magazine out there.
December 9, 201015 yr It just doesn't appeal to me. It's all a little too commercialised/major/whatever for my liking (indie hipster omg). They also seem to be one of those magazines with very boring reviews in them. Giving everything 3 stars...
December 9, 201015 yr ^ You are correct about the reviews. Oh well, I still enjoy it. It is commercialized, but I'm ok with that. I don't really listen to a lot of indie bands anyhow.
December 10, 201015 yr maybe instead of restricting this to just rolling stone maybe make it the "music magazine thread" so people can post stuff from all sorts of music mags that they read.
December 10, 201015 yr I used to read Real Groove a lot. It was one of the best magazines I'd ever read. But sadly it does not exist anymore :( They had a good mix of mainstream and small indie acts.
December 10, 201015 yr Filter is a very very good magazine. it only has 5 issues a year but it is a great read.
December 10, 201015 yr I read Exclaim. It's a free monthly. Covers most good indie stuff. Obviously alot of Canadian content, but also cover stories on bands like Deerhunter. Their year end lists are always good too since they include alot of good Canadian stuff that a site like Pitchfork overlooks.
December 10, 201015 yr i read Triple J Magazine (been a subscriber for over a year now) i also pick up a couple of free music mags every week.
December 10, 201015 yr I used to sometimes get Rolling Stone, but honestly I don't really follow it too much. To be honest there aren't many magazines I look at regularly for music. I tend to use the internet to focus on reading on music news/articles
December 10, 201015 yr I have a subscription for Q Magazine. Just paid for another year.
December 10, 201015 yr Author @ deaths_friend thats a great idea, Ill change the name when i get a chance, any suggestions?
December 13, 201015 yr I find myself disagreeing with what everybody says and also dislike their tendency to push certain bands so I just listen to music myself and form my own opinions. I'm less and less interested in what musicians have to say these days so I don't care for the interviews, and if a band are good enough I'll come across them sooner or later through other media, whether it is on here, through friends, or searching myself.
December 13, 201015 yr Rolling Stone is just not as relevant as it used to be  And yet Im subscribed to it. When my subscription is up I'll probably switch to Q magazine or Spin i dk which is better. Its always awkward though because my 90 year old grandfather gets the mail and when its something like this he always puts it face down on the counter now. I hate how they always, ALWAYS, have at least one column on lady gaga. Its just ridiculous.
December 13, 201015 yr i read Triple J Magazine (been a subscriber for over a year now) i also pick up a couple of free music mags every week. Same. I agree with Rolling Stone not being as relevant, everything just seeming too mainstream/commercialised, as people have been saying. I do enjoy buying it though when they do a huge feature article on a band/person I like, because you know they will be great quality. I also think they are trying to appeal to an older audience. As for other music mags, they don't sell them where I live so I don't get the chance. Also, I am thinking about subscribing to a Los Campesinos fanzine, which is kind of like a music mag right?
December 13, 201015 yr I hate how they always, ALWAYS, have at least one column on lady gaga. Its just ridiculous. correct me if im wrong but lady gaga has a lot of respect amongst music lovers in america. by music lover i dont mean people who just listen to the radio on the way to work or something. i mean the type of people you find on here who listen to a fair amount of albums every year from a few different genres. it puzzles me a little but i guess thats just the way it is.

Correct. If you walk around the halls of school singing Bad Romance, everyone joins in with you. edit: and to answer the thread, none, but I want to subscribe to NME and Rolling Stone
