Well I don't have any interest in seeing her 'looking good'. I don't care about her all that much. I was just saying I wasn't a fan of her face generally. Just a throwaway statement, nothing to do with the music (obviously).

From the still in that youtube vid, before you press play, I stand by my original statement that i am not a fan of her face.

I followed all those three 2000's British Invasion girls, Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Adele. Winehouse is in another league, especially with her out of this world songwriting and how she seems to be very connected with each and every song. Duffy's songwriting is okay, I guess. Her voice is... I don't know how to put it, it sits between almost annoying, sweet, powerful and emotional. Adele vocally trumps the two of them, although she sometimes shoots my ear with pain (albeit always spot on), but her songwriting is just awful, especially in 19.

As far as Adele vs. Duffy. I never picked favourites between them. Duffy's Rockferry was WAY better than 19. She knew her materials and she can sing them perfectly. But in Endlessly, Albert Hammond killed her. All the songs are crap. Adele on the other hand started with a thoroughly messy collection of songs in 19, I almost hated it if not because of a few songs like Hometown Glory, Chasing Pavements, My Same and Melt My Heart To Stone. 21 is much better as an album. Having said that, I must say that none of its songs is as good as any of those four from 19.

:end of rant:

Amy MacDonald is better than all of them, in terms of songwriting, versatility and enjoyability.

Winehouse ruined herself with all the drugs and "Blake" business.:dozey:

Well , that's subjective. Though I'm glad you enjoy it more :)

I agree with Amy ruining herself. With all of the drougs she takes + blake drama she clearly runied herself. Now she has fake boobs and looks liike a drag queen:angry:

She always looked a state IMO. It was a huge turn-off.

she's divorced now, so she's gonna be healthy again and make even better music.

That remains to be seen.

anyway... where's Adele?

Out chasing pavements again?:P

Amy Macdonald is clearly very talented. She has a knack for writing good tunes like her fellow country people! Must be something in the water...or the porridge!

I think in terms of British female talent Katie Melua is another who is very talented certainly in the blues/jazz arena.

I agree. It's amazing how many great musicians Glasgow (in particular) has produced. I said that to Martin and James when I met them!:P

The trouble is, her music sends me to sleep. In fact, "The Closest Thing To Crazy" is one of the most annoying songs I've ever heard, along with James Blunt's "Beautiful".:dozey:

I do think James Blunt has a cracking personality, though.;)

I really like her. Her music that is, don't really care about her looks.

I like Amy Winehouse a lot too. Shame about her drug addition. My friend went to see her a few years ago and she started crying on stage.

I know. It was embarrassing when she started doing all that, and saying "Blake, Blake" all the time.:dozey:

Amy really realyl turns me off

She has like the fakest boobs ever

I always found her to be a big turn-off. Dirty, and hideous.:stunned:

That's one thing I love about Duffy - she looks fantastic and has a touch of class about her.

I'm no fan of that song at all. But some of her other work ain't bad. And I like her covers as well. And I'd agree about James Blunt. Great personality. I remember he was on Have I Got News For You and he was brilliant with Ian Hislop!

He was also brilliant on "Buzzcocks". He has the same self-deprecating style as Chris Martin, which I love.

Did you see when he "rode" Phil Jupitus on "Buzzcocks"? It was hilarious!:P

Haven't seen that episode yet. Was he presenting it?

And it just shows that it's not about being beautiful and stick thin- it is about the music!

Adele's record boss slams rise of 'faux porn' music after being shocked by Rihanna-type bondage themes

By Vanessa Allen

Female pop stars using ‘faux porn’ to sell records are ‘boring, crass and unoriginal’, a leading music executive said yesterday.

The entertainment industry is too reliant on promoting female singers such as Rihanna with overly sexualised videos, according to record label boss Richard Russell.

His comments reflect growing concern that lewd dance routines, revealing outfits and sexually explicit lyrics in mainstream culture are having a detrimental effect on children.

article-0-0B8B8FD100000578-557_468x573.jpg Classic style: Adele has become a worldwide phenomenon for her music, without resulting to an overtly sexualised image

Almost 3,000 people complained that raunchy performances in the X Factor final last December by Rihanna and Christina Aguilera were too explicit.

TV watchdog Ofcom faced criticism after it ruled the routines were ‘at the limit’ of acceptability for broadcast before 9pm for a family audience.

Mr Russell, whose label XL represents chart-topper Adele, suggested the 23-year-old could change attitudes because she focuses on music instead of sexuality.

He told the Guardian: ‘The whole message with [Adele] is that it’s just music, it’s just really good music.

‘There are no gimmicks, no selling of sexuality … What a great thing, how amazing.’

He said both young girls and music bosses would take note of her success, adding: ‘It’s going to make them rethink what they should be doing.’

Mr Russell admitted the ‘faux porn’ of some artists’ videos left him feeling ‘a bit queasy’. He said: ‘It’s just so boring, crass and unoriginal.’ Rihanna, 23, has faced particularly fierce criticism over the explicit nature of some of her songs and performances.

Her track S&M includes the lyric: ‘Sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me.’

Music or image? Adele says that a sexualised image doesn't go with her music, while Rihanna plays up to her feminine prowess

And at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas earlier this month the Bajan singer kissed Britney Spears on stage as the pair performed the song while chained together in bondage gear.

The Parents Television Council said the ‘overtly sexualised performance’, which was broadcast to an audience of millions, was totally unsuitable for children.

Meanwhile, Adele, from Tottenham, North London, has said that ‘even if I had Rihanna’s body, I’d still be making the music I make’, and stressed her records and a sexually suggestive image ‘don’t go together’.

Adele’s second album, 21, spent 11 consecutive weeks at number one in the UK – the most ever by a female solo artist – and also topped the U.S. chart.

First, I'd like to say that while Adele doesn't fit society's conventional definition of beauty (whatever that means...it's irrelevant, anyway), I think Adele is a gorgeous woman with an amazing talent.

Anyway, that article got me to thinking about how sexual some of these artists are getting. Sometimes, I watch "American Idol" for kicks and giggles, and on this one episode, they premiered a new Beyonce video. I don't really remember what the song was called or sounded like, but I do remember the vast amount of dancing that went on. The sad truth of the matter is, in an outlet like the pop world, sex sells. No, I don't think it should be that way, but it is, and that's why people are doing such things.

Having said that, however, I think that Rihanna/Britney thing was out of line. Not that it was that surprising, given Britney did the exact same thing with Madonna several years ago, but really, broadcasting that at a time when children are watching is inappropriate.

I think Adele gives me hope. She shows that you don't have to fit a certain stereotype in order to be a success in the music world, and I think more people need to be made aware of that.
