If some of you don't know Desert Island Disks is a long running radio programme on BBC Radio 4 consisting of a celebrity talking about their life accompanied by 8 songs, a book and a luxury item they would take on an imaginary stay on a desert island.

So what 8 songs would you choose (not allowed the same artist twice) along with a book and luxury item (no essentials as in first aid kit/lifeboats etc)? You can give an explanation for your choices if you want.

 

So to start here's my choices

 

1 - The Scientist by Coldplay. Poignant, nostalgic and sentimental reasons puts this one a certainty in my choices of songs.

2 - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths. Reminds me of leaving school. It is just perfect.

3 - The Unforgettable Fire by U2. My favourite from this band and probably along with the song above joint favourite of all. Despite playing it hundreds and hundreds of times it still never fails to amaze me.

4 - The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Not ashamed to like a bit of classical music. My dad would have this on the car stereo often when in car journeys so i'm particularly fond of this.

5 - In My Life by The Beatles. Probably my favourite Beatles song and a song that

6 - You'll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers. Posted this earlier on the WoM section. Big Liverpool fan so this version of this classic is a must have. Nothing in my life has made me happier than that football club.

7 - Cast No Shadow by Oasis. I just love the lyrics and I feel it's Noel Gallagher at his song writing best. A song that is often forgotten of even by myself

8 - Lucky Man by The Verve. Makes me feel free and ambitious.

Book - Boy by Roald Dahl. Read it when I was a kid and it still is wonderful reading. A book never gripped me so much. I only wish there was more books that were written the way Dahl did them.

i couldn't make a list. After a few hundred listens of the same 8 songs i'd get sick of them.

I'd pick 8 songs from bands I hate so I don't have to hate any of the songs I like.

You could put one or two songs you hate on it, and once you feel like you're beginning to hate the songs you love, start listening to the ones you don't like for a few hours and then maybe you'll appreciate the other songs a lot more after that :nod:

Oh and I'd assume ***** is still allowed, which I understand is the socially acceptable one. This is just funny though because I've used the word s******s not that long ago and it was fine, so for some reason someone recently thought "Yknow what I'm bored as fuck lets ban some words nobody uses anyway".

S******s isn't banned, it's just that ****** is banned so any word including ****** has those 6 letters censored. Just like part of the word sal****er is censored because it contains the word ****.

well, not considering coldplay because it seems that not being a blind fan makes you a hater here, his list is totally boring, I'd go crazy if I had to listen that stuff over and over.

Hahahaha! I actually can imagine going a bit nuts listening to fucking Gerry and the Pacemakers followed by an incredibly overplayed Verve song non-stop. This explains a lot.

 

Oh and you only really have to listen to nyan cat for a minute to get the idea, I would have to admit listening to that non-stop would probably send you crazy a lot faster (That's a scary thought).

I think slow songs would be such a terrible idea, I mean, if you're alone on a desert island you can get depressed very soon :uhoh: and those kind of songs won't cheer you up

 

I think that if I listen to nyan for more than 2 minutes I'll have weeeeird dreams tonight :freak:
