Sorry guys, Just rechecked the MX Wall, says "all the madness" on it, so I'm gunna change my guess to All the madness instead of all the mess :)

It's embarrassing how clear the word "luminous" is now that we know what to listen for. Ah well. Good catch, Cake! I'd always thought the lyrics were "So it's all" instead of "So we saw" or "So we're so" because I kept hearing that "L" sound...guess it was from "luminous" after all!

 

Edit: I'm still hearing "All that matters in the world" rather than "All the mess in the world." I could be wrong, though.

Have we seen these lyrics written by the band anywhere (on instruments or anything)? I'm not saying it's not "combusting," I was just wondering if it's been confirmed or not. Personally, I can hear it either way depending on the version I'm listening to.

Okay, I've just listened to all seven live recordings of Charlie Brown I have on my ipod. I'm 99% sure it's:

I used to think it was wild, but the last syllable of the word is "ed" and wild ends in a "ld".

 

That's what makes me fairly certain it's wired.

I'm still not sold on the "wire" bit, and there's still a missing syllable after "luminous" in any case, which makes me wonder if the word we're looking for is "luminescent."
