ShaftX
Hi all! Has anyone got anyone idea how Chris plays Charlie Brown live? I feel like he's using not the standard tuning.. but can't really see to figure out what..
The Champion
You can watch my tutorial. It's on piano but still I inserted the chords there. For the intro, verse and everytime the main riff is played. Gm(Eb) Bb Bb Gm Eb Eb Cm It goes like this til the "Be a Cartoon Heart" moment. Then it's Gm(Eb) F Eb Light a fire, from a spark F Light a fire, flame in my heart Eb We run wild/riot Then there's a riff interval again Eb All the boys all the girls F All that matters in the world Eb All the boys all the girls F All the madness that occurs Eb All the highs all the loew Dm As the room is spinning oh Eb We run wild/riot And then there's a riff again It was Gm(Eb) F All Eb All an innocent riot, we'll be glowing in the dark Bb
princesanji
the Eb in parentheses are actually played btw, but I think you just meant to indicate that they are only leading to the next chord and are not played for too long ^^
The Champion
That's exactly what I meant. They're kind of transistion to the next chord.
ShaftX
Thanks! It makes sense now! Looking at the live performance from Glastonbury I get the feeling that he just tuned his guitar a half step down :)
MosesTheMarshmallow
^The Eb is definitely there, it's just only played for 2 beats where the parentheses are. Listen to the bassline and you'll hear it. The Champion's thing is correct, except the All the Boys section goes: F - Eb - Bb x2 F - Dm - Eb I believe Chris is playing barre chords in standard tuning, so: Bb - 688766 Gm - 355333 or Gm7 - 353333 Eb - 11,13,13,12,11,11 F - 133211 Dm - 10,12,12,10,10,
The Champion
Yeah, you're right Moses. I meant first F then Eb, but I always confuse it with "Light a fire" part. And thank you very much for that part, cause I was sure there are more chords but finally never changed the way I play. Thanks again!
Jin256
Now, the tuning.
MosesTheMarshmallow
I'm 80% sure it's in standard. :p
ShaftX
I'm 80% sure it's in standard. :p Actually, I think he plays it tuned 1/2-step down. From the video from Glastonbury I'm almost sure that he's gripping an open E where the chord in the song is a Eb, etc.
MosesTheMarshmallow
OH YOU'RE RIGHT. :O :embarrassed: :) This video helps a lot... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_2wQPW9YUs]YouTube - Coldplay - Charlie Brown - Live @ "Where The Action Is" in Gothenburg, Sweden - 28 June 2011 (HD)[/ame] I just got super-mislead because he's still playing barre chords, which isn't something I'd expect when tuned down a half step. Actually his barre chords look weird. Meh. And it appears that Chris skips the short Eb chord (the one that the Champion put in parentheses) even though it's clearly there in the bass. So then it's something like this... Gm - 466444 Eb - 12,14,14,000, 022100 in the choruses Bb - 799877 F - 24432x Dm - 11,13,13,11,11,

Jin256
On a second thought, it looks like Chris is just holdin down the whole barre, so I tried out an open Eb tuning, and it sounds about right, except for the minor chords.
