gentleparachute
I never knew Thom worked in a mental institution before... It was a shocker to browse through this thread and find out that he did :o. Going through my course right now and getting a chance to come into contact with some patients in hospital with mental illness, and also finally seeing the lyrics... It's amazing how much the words and style are reminiscent of the various mental disorders and how much HTTT could've been influenced by Thom's experience working with mentally ill people. A prime example is "A Wolf At The Door". ------ A Wolf At The Door drag him out the window dragging out your dead singing i miss you snakes and ladders flip the lid out pops the cracker <---- 'flight of ideas' and typical 'clang associations' of mania smacks you in the head knifes you in the neck kicks you in the teeth steel toe caps takes all your credit cards step up get the gunge <--- The way he sings this section demonstrates "pressure of speech" in manic people get the eggs get the flan in the face the flan in the face the flan in the face dance you fucker dance you fucker don't you dare don't you dare don't you flan in the face <---- repetitive 'verbal stereotypies' take it with the love its given take it with a pinch of salt take it to the taxman let me back let me back i promise to be good <---- more 'flight of ideas' and 'clang associations' don't look in the mirror at the face you don't recognize help me call the doctor <--- 'loosening of associations' in schizophrenia / severe psychiatric disorder put me inside put me inside put me inside put me inside put me inside i keep the wolf from the door but he calls me up calls me on the phone tells me all the ways that he's gonna mess me up steal all my children if i don't pay the ransom but i'll never see him again if i squeal to the cops <---- taken literally, this part demonstrates paranoid delusions typical of schizophrenia walking like a giant crane and with my x ray eyes i strip you naked in a tight little world and are you on the list? stepford wives who are we to complain? <--- 'loosening of associations' again investments and dealers investments and dealers cold wives and mistresses. cold wives and sunday papers. --------- It's chilling to realise how closely the songs mirror typical abnormal psychiatric symptoms and this has given me a whole new dimension in looking at the their music and the way I listen to it, esp. HTTT. Now I know where all the depths of their darkness come from. An upside is that I now have a more fun / interesting way of studying psychiatry :D

ClearAsCrystal
hah! ^^ okay...'gentleparachute' First...that is wow how you work with metal patients. While i have been to an institute to visit a mental family member, I don't have the physchiatric understanding that you have. Second...that is an intersting thing to find. Lyrics that match what you seem to be studying for. It must be a good feeling.
an_cat
Jesus, have I ever posted in here? It's kind of pathetic that I haven't.... Anyways. I put my Radiohead bumper sticker on my car today. My jeep is officially sexy now. In honor of this great moment (my first bumper sticker ever!) I've been listening to them for probably....... fuck, about 4 hours straight now. For someone with musical ADD, this is a big deal. LMFAO! /done with random ass post

berrywoman
I always found the lyrics to Exit Music (for a film) as interesting song to define. . . . as a guy, I thought the song was basically a conversation between a guy and a girl running away from home. . . "Wake... from your sleep The drying of your tears Today.. we escape We escape. Pack and get dressed Before your father hears us Before.. all hell.. breaks loose." But talking to a female, she understood the lyrics as a mother talking to her children. . . . interesting views from the different sexes. . . . .. "Wake... from your sleep The drying of your tears Today.. we escape We escape. Pack and get dressed Before your father hears us Before.. all hell.. breaks loose." I was right though, this was from the Romeo & Juliet film! really?? I never knew it was used in the movie!! But I always thought it was about death.... which is fitting, given the way it was used in the movie... :P

berrywoman
according to this article..... no release date has yet been established... Radiohead Eyeing Multiple Night Stands April 07, 2006, 10:30 AM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Radiohead is eyeing multiple-night stands in Montreal, Toronto, Philadelphia and Chicago as part of its summer North American tour, which will get underway in June, Billboard.com has learned. Dates, venues and an opening act are still being finalized. For now, the lone confirmed show is a June 17 headlining set at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tenn. Radiohead has not performed in the United States since it headlined California's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival almost two years ago. As previously reported, the band begins a European tour May 5 in Copenhagen. International headlining and festival dates will resume Aug. 12 in Budapest. Following the expiration of its contract with longtime label EMI, the band has been working on a new studio album for several months. In a recent interview with NME, frontman Thom Yorke said Radiohead will not sign a new deal until the as-yet-untitled album is complete. "I think it's a nutty situation to be in to have no definite release system," he said. "It's really liberating not to feel part of the record company structure. It should be an extremely positive place to be in but it's also an extremely strange situation to be in." http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/search/google/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002313680
