What's Guy's most complicated bassline?

Featured Replies

Not being mean to the lovely Guy Berryman, but what's the most he does on a Coldplay song? From what I can see it's all very simple... He must be capable of more surely?

Don't get me wrong, he carries Clocks. I just wondered whether he's ever had a bigger contribution that I've missed somewhere.

Umm . . . I'd say Clocks is the 'most important' bassline he's done (and that one is pretty darn important :P )

But his basslines on Violet Hill, Cemeteries, and Major Minus are pretty awesome. And supposedly Up In Flames is bass-heavy :wacky:

this one's pretty good...

Roadie said something about Paradise's epic baseline.

:wacky: Can't wait!

And he was really, really enjoying playing it on Friday night. I've never seen him move like that, and I was behind him!

Major Minus must be the best one imo, but the most complicated? Who am I kidding, I honestly don't know anything about that.

I'd say Daylight and GPASUYF, great bass work in those songs.

I think that the bassline in Trouble is one of the most creative ones that he's made.

LMFAO XD

Here are the ones that stand out to me (in no particular order)

Clocks: The bassline here is really the propulsive element of the song.

Everything's not Lost: He has some nice little moments in the breaks between verses.

Cemeteries of London: I just think this is a cool line

Sparks: The softer acoustic nature of this song really brings the bass to the front of the mix. A very "jazzy" sounding line.

Death and all his friends: The bass holds the whole song together in the first portion while the guitar part is waiting to come in.

42: I like the octave jumps the bass does in this one.

Guy is very much a "play for the song" sort of bass player who avoids showing off and spends most of his time in the pocket, but he's also a pretty solid player IMHO. Live he's very consistent and all the times I've seen them play, he and will are super tight together as a rhythm section.

Also from what I've seen and read, he seems to be the most highly regarded member of the group musically speaking. (I've never seen any of the other guys listed on something like a "best of" list for their respective positions, but have seen Guy's name come up several times.)

And now we can add Paradise to the list.

Even tho I don't like the song, the bassline is amazing.

I wish he would bring some slap bass and popping techniques into the songs.

I think I remember him saying in interviews that he likes funk, so surely he can play some awesome grooves. I would love to see him step up on an album and rock some funk inspired grooves.

And Things I dont Understand? Is a simple bassline but enough for supporting the song, and I love the intro

For me,Guy can do much more than what we see in Coldplay,I would like to see him working with another band

I agree about Death and all his friends. Clocks is easy as fuck but it's one of his best basslines imo.

I love the bassline in Violet hill and Cemetries of London :wacky:

I love White Shadows' bass :)

THIS. The bass drives that song. One of my faves.

Oh I forgot about White Shadows. Of course it should be mentioned as well :D
