Choldplayer
So now MX is looking poor, Eno bloated and not a very good album, where do you want album 6 to go? Is like a stripped back to basics album more like parachutes.
MichMoch
I just hope that after MX they will fire Brain Eno.Ā I've always liked Coldplay because they've always done different things from an album to another, so I won't say I would like to hear Parachute another time, but something definitely close to it and AROBTTH, or even X&Y. Jedi Leo
Even if I love MX so far, I was wondering about LP6 just today so your thread is very timely! Especially I am wondering at what Chris said about them having put everything they got in LP5, so what“s next? I do believe MX will feature both intimate and bombastic Coldplay songs, so in LP6 they would either have to go metal, jazz or classical in order to change once again! hehe Nah seriously I don“t know, but the guess that they might do a stripped down album is likely I think. Another option for them would be to do an instrumental album without Chris: now that would be revolutionary hehe

john_crawford44
There won't be an LP6. I would bet the house on it... maybe an EP but unlikely as well.
nvdmm
yeah i highly doubt there'll be an LP6. at least for quite some time maybe 4 or 5 years. it all depends on the reception MX receives. but they HAVE to go back to basics and what made them coldplay in the first place or i'd be too disappointed

Mrk
I hope Eno will be the coldplay producer forever :escaping:Ā BTW I really hope they don't use the stupid "return to the origins" clichĆØ. I really hate when bands do that

admnistramation
I don't want a sixth album. Maybe if Chris leaves the band.
Famous Old Painter
The way I see it there are two ways they can go.Ā 1. They continue to dumb down their music even further, making mainstream pop music in an attempt to win over the masses and stay relevant. Much like Weezer have done, for instance. I'd be surprised if it works. Ā 2. They realize that going in a more mainstream direction isn't working for them and pull a Blur, following up their most commercial album with something much braver, darker and less radio friendly. This is what I'm hoping for, anyway.
rainplay
Maybe if Chris leaves the band.Ā Now that's silly. Ā Ā Anyways, thinking ahead to LP6 is too soon...We haven't even heard MX in entirety.. I don't know. If they do make LP6, I hope I like it. HandyAndy136
Guys! MX hasn't even come out yet! Goodness, we haven't even seen the music video for Para-Para-Paradise.Ā And they won't go 'back to basics'. Any band who says this is generally out of ideas, and can then either begin releasing cover albums (God forbid), or call it a day.

I for one would not want an album full of slow depressing songs (I love their early albums but some of those b-sides were downright depressing). If MX offers a good balance of songs, including intimate and lavish ones then I think it is perfect.

This is what I'm hoping for, anyway.Ā This should be the direction they go in and take some risks. To do so, they need to draw upon different musical influences. I don't think Chris Martin would ever be brave enough to take electronic music and incorporate it into the band's music like Radiohead did with Kid A (Plus, it would lead to more Radiohead comparisons)...Ā Adopting orchestral elements into their music might actually be a logical and feasible landing spot for an upcoming album if there is one (and I'm not talking faux-string arrangements like in Paradise). Jedi Leo
I think for Coldplay to incorporate hip-hop in MX was and is a huge risk. Davide Rossi plays a real string instrument by the way :) And I don“t ever think Coldplay will be as experimental as Radiohead: they are treading a very fine balance with experimentation and still writing a catchy tune. Abracadabra
We've heard much of the material that will appear on the album, so judging by that, I would rather not have another album like this than be further disappointed in them. Here's a YouTube link to sort of explain what I'm talking about: Ā Radiohead have incorporated electronic music thanks to the contribution of Nigel Godrich, Coldplay should find a partner like him if they wants to do something good with the electronic music. Jacknife Lee is the producer they should work with if they wants to try to incorporate electronic into their music. The last snow patrol's album is a perfect example.
