WoM Mylo Xyloto ranking

I find it hard to believe they spent over a year on this album. It sounds like everything was thrown together at the last minute.

I gave it a 5. My favorites are MX, A Hopeful Transmission, Up With The Birds and Up In Flames. I don't like the songs as a whole song individually, but instead it became my favorite just because there are a few parts of the song that I find quite good, for example the second half of Up With The Birds. If I have to review track by track, I don't think I have any favorite.

But anyway, I expected the album to be way worse than this though. Thank goodness I already had in my mind that this album is gonna be extremely overproduced, so it's not a 100% disappointment for me.

It's not worth the anticipation.

But lol I didn't really anticipate it anyway :|

Didn't they start this album around January?

They scrapped the acoustic one and started a brand new "wild" one.

that sucks, they said that after Chris wrote Paradise they decided to start again and forget about the acoustic album

Paradise ruined LP5 era D:

Ooh, really? Wish we could hear what they thought was so terrible. Might've actually been a decent album.

Am I the only person in the WoM who actually likes DLIBYH? :uhoh: :disappointed:

If they release an ep or 2cd edition with the acoustic versions or something simply leaks I shall be happier.

My rating on Mylo Xyloto:

The album is really a very weird album, it definetly splits the fans. It has some different styles of music that old fans we're not used to. I think that one of the problems in this album is that they took 3 years in the making of it, and the songs are not very connected. Not even with the 40seg weird songs trying to connect shit together.

Thats why i have splitted the album to give my opinion:

Happy Songs:

Mylo Xyloto/Hurts Like Heaven - I don't really like this music, the vocals are just to fast and high its kinda too fast for me, but i do liked the studio version with the backtracks. 8/10

Charlie Brown - I really enjoy this music, and the studio version is very nice. I just loved the little life is for living stuff in the outro. 9/10

Don't Let It Break Your Heart - This song really gets me, its kinda weird in a way. But its a grower. The more a hear the more I like...The only problem is that sounds like they were just playing random and making some noise 8,5/10

Up With The Birds - This song shows to me the face of the album, its a mix of sad and happy, i really like it. 9/10

Relaxing Songs:

M.M.I.X. - Kinda pointless...

A Hopeful Transmission - That's not a "SONG" but watever, its kinda nice...

Us Against The World - To me the best song in the album, I wish they made an album only of songs like this. It reminds me of Parachutes ERA. 10/10

U.F.O. - Its a really "B-side" kinda of music, its relaxing and i love the guitar on it. Its hard to find music like that today. 9/10

Up In Flames - I really hope that the leak version had some poor rhytmn or something like that, i just hate the drums. 8/10

Pop Rock:

Paradise- I really like it, its really powerful live. I was in the RIR 2011 and it was one of the best songs they played. The lyrics may not be so smart but its a different kinda of "pop" music, not shit like POC. 9,5/10

Major Minus - The name of this song kinda defines the album, its all about up and downs to me...And its a very catchy song. I really like both live and studio versions. The lyrics are better than Paradise and ETIAW, but to me still sounds pop. 9/10

Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall - This is like paradise, its works fine live...and i like it. 9/10

Freaking Weird:

Princess of China - to me this is shit. Is more a Rihanna ft Coldplay than anything else, and Rihanna sux. 0/10

Who asked right? Anyway, im bored.

I've only gotten to hear MX once and I rated it 7, which seems rather high now that I think about it, but the album turned out to be not as horrible as I expected.

Favorites were Up With the Birds, Us Against the World, Up in Flames (which I actually didn't like at all when the live version leaked, but I didn't think it was so bad here; I really, really hate the drums though), and Princess of China (I know everyone thinks it's awful, but I just really like it for some reason pleasedon'thurtme D: ).

I want to say that I liked UFO too but I honestly don't even remember what that one sounded like. :|

The instrumental interludes are okay, but they seem a bit pointless. They're just so short and they all cut off awkwardly at the end. I think it would've been better to either merge them into the song that they were leading up to or not have them at all.

Hated Don't Let It Break Your Heart. I agree with whoever said that it sounded like a bunch of noise. ETIAW still sounded as cheesy and terrible in the context of the album as it did as a single. I think Paradise is not nearly as bad as ETIAW musically, in fact, I even kind of like it, even though it still sounds more like an average pop song you'd hear on the radio than a Coldplay song; but the lyrics are so stupid that it kills it for me. I think that's the main problem with this album, it's that the lyrics to these songs are so lazy and have no depth whatsoever. It's like they'd rather appeal to pre-teens and make the top 40 charts or whatever than write good music with lyrics that make you think.

to be honest like ETIAW and Paradise the album is one of those that'll grow on you. I gave it an 8 because I think the acoustic songs and more slow tempo ones are good and then the more upbeat ones like CB, HLH and DLIBYH are really good and full of energy. I'm still struggling with Paradise and I'm just about getting through PoC. I think the Mylo Xyloto and A Hopeful Transmission are good build ups for their following tracks but M.M.I.X is a waste of time really. It surpassed my low expectations and I think although it's a good album it's still time for Coldplay to say goodbye to Brian Eno.

You and me both. But its really relaxing, its kinda like Parachutes from Parachutes :laugh3:

I like "UFO."

"Charlie Brown," though... -shakes head in disgust-

This, my friend, are wise words

Its an OK album, but when you put X&Y and AROBTTH next to Mylo Xyloto its hard to believe that is from the same band...

I think that the real problem is that Mylo Xyloto does not have a single "Masterpiece" like all the other 4 albuns had.

I never liked Hurts Like Heaven or Charlie Brown, not because I think they're bad songs, but because songs that are fast-paced and upbeat like those two are just not my taste. However, I think they ruined the studio version of Hurts Like Heaven with the autotuning of Chris's voice in some parts of the song. Why did they have to do that? It sounds so awful :freak:

I kinda liked it. In rock in rio they used those voices too.

Just finished my first listen. I don't care to give this a numbered rating.

I hope this will grow on me, but am not sure it will. It's just not very good. I can't find many more words to say. There's a few nice moments. Most of the album is so overproduced...

In Interpol's song "Obstacle 2", there's a line that goes: "Friends don't waste wine when there's words to sell". It seems, Coldplay have run out of "words". They have nothing meaningful, nothing of true quality to add anymore. Now they've gotten drunk, yelling words repetitively, dancing around in elephant costumes, and throwing a bunch of production on songs that would otherwise be stale.

I'll always love Coldplay so, so much. However, if this is all they can come up with, it's time to stop.

Finally voted in the poll and settled on a 3/10. Score dropped a bit because I've decided I don't like "Up in Flames" (one of those just-because-it's-mellow-doesn't-mean-it's-good songs) anymore. So the only 3 tracks that shall remain in my iTunes are "Charlie Brown", "Us Against the World", and "Up With the Birds". For the record, UWTB sounds better as a standalone track. Because the album flows so horribly, it feels more out-of-place at the end than it should.

I settled for a 0/10 not because I'm being a ****, but I really don't see anything special, the interludes sound off, Paradise is a terrible song, Charlie Brown is probably the most generic track for me, I don't see anything original about it, it just sounds like a regular alternative band song. The lyrics are getting worse. DLIBYH had little potential to be good but they can't really even work a possible good song to sound ok in your ears, it's just noise to me, like Chris said, not cool shoegaze way.

The only thing I barely enjoy is MX/HLH.

Am I the only person in the WoM who actually likes DLIBYH? :uhoh: :disappointed:

I like the song.

I find the song very nostalgic, which is maybe why I really enjoy it. I think there might be a lot or too much going on though. I do really like the melody of the choruses though.

I like it quite a bit as well, though it's hard for me to get past the fact it sounds EXACTLY like a later-day U2 song.

Us Against The World, U.F.O, Up In Flames and Up With The Birds are the only ones I genuinely like..The other ones I find really boring
