No, I think their just rumors, the article is very old (2011) and there's been a lot of talking about it but, if I'm not wrong, the band denied any possibility, they'll be on tour in that period.

The Opening Ceremony of the Olympics is 27 July 2012, that's the same date as the second Coldplay concert in Montreal. Not going to happen!

Really wish they will play in the Olympic opening or closing ceremony. But the chance is slim since they will be on tour. :cry:

What date is the ceremony?

I hope they play the closing ceremony, if they can't be there for the opening. Where are they on the 11th? I hope its not somewhere really far from the UK :\

With the upcoming tour it's almost impossible for them to play the opening or closing ceremony. It wouldn't surprise me if Sir Paul McCartney would play. I also read Madonna and The Rolling Stones are rumors to play.

Adele and Coldplay are among the acts expected to appear in "an elegant mash-up of British music" to close the London 2012 Olympic Games.

 

Music director Kim Gavin said that the August 12 ceremony will be a "fabulous" collection of contemporary stars, as well as classical composers such as Elgar and Holst.

 

 

"Without saying we have booked anyone, it goes from Elgar to Adele," he teased. "It is not just a pop concert, it is not just a classical rendition. It will be everything that we think is fabulous about British music."

 

Gavin added: "We are taking a box of fabulously well-done tunes. We are putting them together to write one piece of music that is fabulously balanced."

 

"Usually it is something classical but in this case it is an elegant mash-up of British music," The AP reports him as saying. "It will not be just about the music but also about what makes Britain great. We are trying to introduce something that is an absolute melting pot of British creativity."

 

 

Danny Boyle is tasked with creating the London 2012 opening ceremony, while Underworld were appointed as musical directors in December.

 

Sir Paul McCartney, Elton John, Muse, X Factor winners Little Mix and Britain's Got Talent gymnastic troupe Spelbound have all been tipped to appear at the July 27 event.

 

Ronnie Wood confirmed last week that he has been approached to perform at both ceremonies with The Rolling Stones and The Faces.

Interesting. If this is true then I am looking forward to hearing this.

I hesitantly posted it but it's too vague. I don't know how credible Digital Spy is.

If all this is true and all those artists appear at the closing ceremonies, I am most DEFINITELY going to be watching that. That sounds like it'd be amazing.
