who is the most "thanked" person in the forum?

Featured Replies

I would not be surprised if it gets pulled for some reason like

'THE THANKS SYSTEM IS BEING TOO EASILY ABUSED' etc

I would find it more amusing if we had a reputation system instead

Well, I don't understand how this is more 'abusing' than giving someone 30 thanks because they know how to copy and paste a Chris Martin picture from Flickr...

But I'd love a reputation system :wacky:

^I do agree that the use of the thanks button can be over the top, but I think people may thank something as simple as a photo of Chris (indeed, a photo identical to one hundred others) because people appreciate the effort of taking the time to build a Coldplay database here. Yes and because "omg, Chris is so hot", but I think the other option is still valid.

What is a reputation system?'

I need to post more Chris-pictures.

But Dee just illustrated how it doesn't take a lot of effort to copy and paste a picture link.

What is thanked is a contribution to a thread.

Posting a huge picspam, or a new pic that no one had seen before, doesn't only take time (took me 2 hours the other day), especially in internet search, it also makes a lot of us :dazzled: and happy, hence the thanks.

Also, some people use the Thanks button as a Like button, so, obviously, when they like something, they'll thank the one who posted it.

But Dee just illustrated how it doesn't take a lot of effort to copy and paste a picture link.

It does. It's very hard to press the mouse's buttons so many times and it's a very tiring activity

Were we talking about posting a bajillion pictures or specifically just posting one picture that's been posted a million times anyway? No it was the latter thank you very much.

^Still doesn't invalidate the second part of my post.

Then, you all say you don't go in the Coldplay part of the forum anymore, yet you comment on posts & thanks made there. So, either you're talking (and judging) about something you don't know (anymore) and you should stop doing so, or you're (still) lurkers there, then just admit it.

Who cares about being Thanked anyway ?

As Reilly said, OMG someone has been thanked for a silly reason, CALL THE POLICE! Geez, these are just Thanks button!

/end of rant :|

oh no people lurk forums what a drama couerli

But nobody was disputing that, we were in the middle of talking about getting thanks for copying one picture.

And to be honest, I don't really know what gets thanks, I'm going off what Dee implied, because you're right, I never go in there so I don't know what gets thanks. I do go through brief stages of lurking/posting/trolling there, but normally when something big happens which is Coldplay related and the Coldplay section gets really busy.

That's weird, works for me but I know that link doesn't look very specific.

Just go on your statistics in your profile and click "View all thanked posts"

I used it as an instance of other efforts to create a Coldplay database here, whether or not it's copying and pasting a link. I think it's valid to show you appreciation for people who cared to go looking for pictures of concerts, reviews, news etc, which is one of the purposes of the thanks button.

^ it's C O E U R L I

I noticed right after I posted it... but I kinda left it because I knew you'd love it

Just what is Curly's problem?

Basically there is not point to having that button. It´s not gonna cause a big fight, well it did but because i made this thread but people arent crying over it. I just think it was a dumb thing to add and by making this thread I was mocking on what would happen but isnt really going to happen

Can I have lots of thanks without any reason?

Only 1 thank. I failed

You guys argue for really silly reasons!

What I said wasn't entirely accurate, sure, I just meant to say that I don't believe that the only people screwing around with the Thanks system are the people who chat casually on the forum. Yes I sometimes lurk the Coldplay section, I like Coldplay and like Reilly and Cobalt said, I don't understand why lurking in a forum is a 'crime'. But I still don't consider myself as 'going in' that section.

Well, I don't understand this post, Ian added this new feature, this thread was made light-heartedly and all of a sudden there's no point to it? There is no fight here about the existence of the Thanks button, tbh there is no fight at all, but if this was the case, it's not Ian's burden, it's yours/ours/etc. for not using it responsibly. Just stop thanking posts that don't need thanking if it's a problem. Not "welp I guess everyone ruined it, time to take it away"

EDIT: Oops you mean that you personally believe there's no point to it. I'm too lazy to reply to that atm

Uhh... well the thanks system is like giving people "+1" "+1" "+1"s for their good posts, right? The rep system is where you can give people "+1" or "-1"s for being a helpful (or unhelpful) user. It's a more complex version of the thanks system, cos you can give negative feedback too. I found a shitty bodybuilding forum that uses this as an example: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=145688701

It's very cool imo but I know somehow it would be screwed up and I imagine it would take a lot of unnecessary effort to implement in the forum.

EDIT: The forum used to have it, it was called 'bling'. This was before my time though. I imagine that the fact that it's gone means that there's a reason why it won't be back again.
